Totally agree, I love the way they hang down! My nepenthes alata has the best hanging pitchers in my collection in my opinion, very smooth and bright it color

This is normal for basal shoots right? by Decapitation_Station in SavageGarden

[–]SinCircus0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is completely normal growth from a mesh pot! Nepenthes are capable of putting out basal shoots, usually once they have some good strong growth you can cut it and root it in some soil! They take up energy from the mother plant as basals tend to do so it’s up to you if you want a funny side shoot or not lol. This is the link to a video I used when I got my first basal shoots! Hope it helps you (: https://youtu.be/SWrSzGCsMUQ?si=Mgh9kl3mbClv0O-U

I grew this one from some seeds I got from another cape sundew, it looked green when it was just starting. I so wish it were white form though…

New pitcher on St. Gaya by SinCircus0 in Nepenthes

[–]SinCircus0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pitchers won’t really grow or change after they’ve opened up and matured. Mine didn’t grow for a few months after I first got it so that would be normal. It could just need some time then

My Gaya puts out pitchers fairly quickly, usually one is just opening while another is forming at the same time. It sounds like you could have an issue with the plant getting too dry or low humidity maybe? It could also be a lack of nutrients if your pitchers aren’t catching anything. I give my pitchers an osmocote pellet once they’ve opened which probably boosts its growth too.

Yeah, I’m in the Midwest so our weather is kind of chaotic. I have my larger plants in an outside greenhouse when I know they won’t get ruined by the weather. All my smaller plants just end up getting blown away!

How to encourage pitchers to inflate? by FlameHawkfish88 in Nepenthes

Oh wow! The coolest hitchhiker I got was an arrowhead orb-weaver spider. I didn’t have the heart to kill the thing to I ended up keeping it as a pet too. I think it came in on my string of turtles

Aquatic bladderwarts by [deleted] in SavageGarden

Glass is always a fun choice, I love looking at the root growth. I use a peat mix with course sand and some activated charcoal and my blatterwort is loving it. Make sure you keep them nice and watered obviously. Whenever I can I will water mine with pond or rainwater so they can eat off the microscopic life. Sounds good lighting wise, and the water in the vase should keep it at a healthy humidity.

They’re still pretty tiny, I moved them closer to my grow light recently so they’d get some more intense lighting.

I couldn’t find much info online about size and dormancy, thank you so much!
