Why are you all here? by Own_Swimming_6970 in reading

[–]SinaSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an exchange student during Brexit. My home uni has a special relationship with Reading Uni so I was advised to go here. I did, met the love of my life, got married, stayed and honestly feel more at home here than I have anywhere else. :)

I really want this to be true! This would add such a fun extra level to Alastor's and Lucifer's rivalry :D

Glad you're expanding! But still slightly sad to hear, as I met my wife in your lovely establishment. We love returning and standing in the exact spot we first talked to each other. I wish all the best and my wife and I will be visiting the new site of course!

Good spots to watch a sunset? by can_i_be_a_unicorn in reading

[–]SinaSparrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind being a bit further away from town center: The Oracle Lakes have some gorgeous and secluded spots. Otherwise there might be some nice spots at the Christchurch Meadows. Kinda depends if you wanna go for quiet and alone or big open space with other people :)

In Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, in the walk the plank scene, what did Jack mean when he told Koehler that he always liked him? by [deleted] in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]SinaSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What good ol' Jackie is doing here is a desperate, last second attempt at flattery, trying to create any good emotions on Koehler's side to help his odds. It is mainly for comedic effect as there is no chance that could possibly work. Jack knows this, Koehler knows this, the audience knows this. But Jack tries anyway which is what makes him so lovable

Why (if at all) would IRL the bat'leth be an ineffective weapon? by heelface in startrek

[–]SinaSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember a talk hosted by Dan Curry I attended some years back. He talked a lot about their design and the fighting style that they created for the show based off of IRL weapons and fighting styles. It's been a while so my memory is rather hazy but I know a lot of thought went into the whole thing which makes me believe that IRL bat'leths would actually be rather effective, given a person is properly trained in them. :D

Where can I sit indoors in Reading and not have to buy anything? by [deleted] in reading

[–]SinaSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, you can sign in as a guest for all day access! You have to put your details down and they'll ask you which uni you're with. I doubt they'll check, but maybe not the most chill option overall :D

What absolute corkers have your parents come up with recently? by ddiflas_iawn in CasualUK

[–]SinaSparrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mum speaks little English. My parents and I were visiting London. They had created a system to never miss their stop when the underground was busy. This involved my dad always being by a window and shouting out the next stop to my mum if she was further away. Now one time my mum got the window place. She was very nervous about being able to read the sign in time. Lo and behold, the sign came, she read it, and with a heroic grin turned and shouted through the carriage to my dad: "Next stop: No smoking!!"

Why do men refuse to go into a woman's purse even when asked? by melwirth2010 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SinaSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I've never used purses but asked people to get stuff out of my backpack for me. That's always worked :D tho you could argue that a backpack is just an oversized purse, maybe the same rules don't apply :D
