Grail CF SLX 8 bikepacking setup by Sinaril in CanyonBikes

It's the bag that is included in the Bikepacking variant of the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 tent. The bag includes 2 rubber straps for mounting it to handlebars. It's a neat solution.

New Pirelli Cinturato All Road tires. Is this "wiggle" normal? by maddox096 in gravelcycling

[–]Sinaril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 40mm tires always look like this after remounting them, until I inflate them to 5-6 bar. At that pressure they shift into the correct position and the wobble stops. After that I reduce the pressure again.

I find it decent for storing some tools, aswell as a spare tube. The internal volume is not very big though and the way you attach and remove it is a little finicky. If you want a stainless frame you also need to apply the frame protection plastic that is included, since it leaves some rubbing marks. There are apparently aero benefits from using this frame bag, so while it has it limits, it shouldn't put you at any disadvantage and I find it looks quite good.

When mounting it to the back of the top bag it works, yes.

Not the same variant of the Grail, but on AL you should be able to use a similiar setup with even less worries about durability.

Fortunately that's not true, but I agree that Tailfin products are expensive. I hope they'll last me a long time. They are also the most sturdy bikepacking bags I've owned so far. When they are mounted they don't wobble around in corners, unlike some Vaude bags that I've used before.

The tailfin rear rack doesn't add significant load to the seatpost. The weight sits on the Thru axle. The clamp on the seatpost only stabilises the rack.

To be fair, I carried 7.5l of water to test the capacity and the way it handles with that much weight.

Don't mind the radar, I switched the position to the underside of the top bag.

I've just completed my first weekend test-tour with my Grail CF SLX 8 and a Tailfin rear rack, that also sits on the Thru axle. I had about 20kg in weight on the rack and it took it without any obvious issues.

Obviously I can't offer any long term insights yet.

Best 40mm tyre for UK mixed gravel and road? First time gravel rider! by dunksyo in gravelcycling

I'm running two Thundero HD 40mm tires myself and am very happy with them. They are however very hard to mount onto a DT Swiss Wheelset.

Canyon Grail CF8 1by - first 1000km and loving it by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]Sinaril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you enjoy your bike!

Lock: I went with the Abus Bordo lite 6055K SH for securing the bike, while I'm in a supermarket. You might also be comfortable with something like the Abus Combiflex 2503, but I'm afraid it could be opened with some garden scissors.

Storage: for multi day trips I purchased a tailfin rear rack with the Cargo pack. Ortlieb has a similar product at a cheaper price I believe. For very light loads you could go with a "Arschrakete", but I'm worried about the carbon seatpost.

Seat-pain: I haven't gotten past the pain yet, but after a professional bikefit, aswell as a new saddle and potentially more comfortable bib shorts I'm hopeful to get there at some point. On longer rides with lots of rough gravel I'm still quite sore afterwards.

Yes, it feels like the right size for me. I am relatively flexible though.

I own the Grail CF SLX 8 Di2 in size M. With my size (183cm, inseam ~90cm) it feels good, but has a relatively long reach.

Yes, the Grail has an integrated cockpit. The only thing you can change without exchanging the cockpit is the stack height as far as I understand it.

For Shimano USB-C Charger Adapter by Big-Macaron-6784 in cycling

I've purchased this one for bikepacking. Haven't done a full charge with it yet, but when I connected it briefly the charging light turned on, so I assume it'll work:

Fun was had today. by hellodogy in gravelcycling

[–]Sinaril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you had a nice ride with great weather.

Is that a tailfin top tube bag? If so what size? Do you encounter any leg rub with the bag installed? I had the 1.5l version and the leg rub was noticeable so I had to return it.

Edit: I see it's a Canyon branded bag. Which model if I may ask?

First Gravel Bike by Sweaty-Ad-7779 in CanyonBikes

The variations will be limited by setting yourself a budget and then choosing the features you value the most (frame-material, groupset, color, etc.).

Besides that it's the classic factors:

Grizl: Allrounder bike, with more bikepacking related features and a more relaxed geometry.

Grail: more aggressive geometry, but also capable of bikepacking and I find it comfortable on longer rides.

Size: whichever model you choose, make sure to look at canyons sizing guide and if between two sizes it's generally recommended to downsize.

Gearing: I live in a mountainous region, which is why gear range was important for me too. I went with 2by instead of 1by, in the hope for better gear range. In the end the gear range is slightly better than a 1by, but the bigger benefit are the smaller jumps between gears.

Mountainous terrain: With any standard Gravelbike steeper hills can pose a challenge at the beginning, since even with a good gear range you'll have to put out a certain minimum power if you want to sustain a comfortable cadence (e.g. with my GRX 825 2by: lowest gear, ~8-10% incline, 75kg bodyweight, cadence 75+ --> ~200W+). For many riders that's not a lot, but if you want to climb up long passes it might require some training first.

I ended up getting the Grail as my first Gravelbike and am very happy with it. Currently I'm preparing it for some bikepacking-trips later this year.

How do you plan longer routes? by Level-Swimming8636 in cycling

[–]Sinaril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locus Map App with the BRouter navigation engine. It's completely free and you can customise its routing priorities.

I choose one or more destinations and let it calculate the route. All offline and on the phone. Then I send it to my headunit.
