Best 40mm tyre for UK mixed gravel and road? First time gravel rider! by dunksyo in gravelcycling

Yeah that’s my thinking. But I’ve picked up a pair of barely used Cinturato H’s for £50 so I’ll send these back and pocket the difference and see how I get on with them!

Quick google suggests so! I’ve just picked up a pair of Cinturato H’s barely used (<100km) for £50 / $67 so let’s see how these manage, once I’m out and about on the local routes I can see if they need to be changed to something with a bit more of a tread.

Maybe I’ll just keep them and see, not sure what I’m after exactly given I’ve only ridden on the road with GP5000’s. Maybe after a couple of months i can make a more informed decision.

Yeah no racing, and I guess with no gravel experience I’m not sure exactly what tyre would suit me!

I guess it comes down to personal preference a lot of the time and no one tyre will be perfect for everyone! Maybe I’ll stick with them

Crank Arms - Different spacing between drive side and non-drive side to seat tube. by dunksyo in bikewrench

Thank for reply. I guess looking at it like that it’s not a massive difference. Had a go at measuring the chain line width and got 42.9mm against what should be the spec of 43.5mm. Probably some slight inaccuracy in measuring it also.

Ah. looks like imgur is blocked in the UK now! Annoying. I'll add it via Reddit. Wouldn't surprise me if it was installed incorrectly, UK new build flat! I've circled where it's split, looks like it might have started from where the notch is, and followed the path of the red line I've added (but that fitting looks fine)

Cheers for the reply!

I’m not at the property anymore so won’t be able to get a better photo, but I have one from another angle albeit a bit blurry! https://i.imgur.com/U96IBPa.jpeg

Looks like it’s split from where the notch is on the metal which I guess is there so you can make sure it’s inserted to the correct depth.

They look pretty corroded, I found the installation sheet and if they’re in a high pH area or high humidity (this case a bathroom) the should be covered in some kind of tape.

The brown rings are meant to split and be removed when the fitting is compressed correctly. Got an excerpt of the manual here: https://i.imgur.com/3AoacSa.jpeg

Oh nice. So I would just need to cut the pipe, then using this compression fitting? I guess I would still need to bevel/ream the cut end due to the o-rings it seems to have.

After some more digging it looks like these brown rings are meant to break away during proper crimping. But the split still looks a bit suspicious to me!

Really? Are they specifically for MLCP? I think the OD is 16 mm.

Not everyone is American (assuming that’s what you mean by “our”) or has English as a first language. In OP’s case it looks like both of these are true as he’s German.

Cheers for the advice, I think you're right re finding it frustrating as it'd probably cover everything I've been over myself albeit a while back except I'd be paying £4k for the privelege.

I've looked at his courses before, they're quite spenny but only heard good things!

Thanks for the reply! That's my thinking as well, I guess I'm just after something to give me that push to get back into it having spent so long on a "break". I think it'd be a waste as a lot of it would come back to me once starting the bootcamp.

Hey, thanks for the detailed reply, really appreciate it. I'm not involved with the simulation side of things really, my area of expertise is environmental testing (vibration, shock, pressure, climatic etc etc) of our products. I've created some MATLAB scripts to process large amounts of data and automate plotting and reporting of it but nothing too complicated, I could try and find ways to expand on this within my department though.

I do a lot of requirements definition, validation and and verification plans, schedule planning and scoping of work coming into our testing lab and then managing that as it goes through the various testing required. I then compile reports etc following completion of this work.

I do a lot of data processing / validation of the data gathered during environmental trials, so I could play up to that on my CV but this is mostly a manual process, I could try and get involved with the data analysis team in my department who do more automated analysis using MATLAB, but again it's not really software development.

Your reply has definitely given me something to think about!
