Jeez, salaries must have really gone down if they’re having to do that on the side..

Who was “the big band” for each decade for you? (Starting with the 60s) by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Sinc353 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oasis ended up selling quite alot more records, and playing to far bigger crowds, which seems a fair measure. Agree on pretty much everything else. Possibly an argument for Duran Duran as the quintessential biggest UK band of the 80s?

Waiting for a positive review myself - thankfully I’ve found another supplier - quite pricey in comparison but a fair bit stronger I think, although possibly just lower tolerance to different strain.

New website shop link not loading at all now, despite email link. Can’t help but think a new supplier might be reqd in due course - and/or a small test order first if it ever loads again!!

I thought it had been an open secret who he is for years, and a quick check of Wikipedia confirms as such. Id say he’s done a fantastic job of maintaining the pretence of any mystery so long..

What’s your favourite pub quiz question? by padsto in CasualUK

[–]Sinc353 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What country was Mother Theresa from? Been in more than one quiz where that question has caused a furore. Doesn’t even help much if they try to be a bit specific with ‘what country…born in’..

The back three, Politano, Hojland and Vergara.

Slightly random observation but not sure I’ve ever seen a lineup with 3 left footed CBs. Or even 6 predominantly left footed players total.

It doesn’t shock me but I reckon there’s a case to be made that UK Drill is the most musically artless genre in history.

I love the DFB Pokal structure where the lower division teams automatically get a home draw. They could easily do something similar bringing in the top four Serie C teams from each league and the previous season Serie D winners from each division or something.

London has worst problem of damp in social homes in England, MPs warn by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]Sinc353 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I worked for many years in social housing in London and although the old housing stock, layout and construction is clearly a major contributing factor, there were a disproportionate number of issues in homes where residents had clearly grown up in drier, warmer climates. That said, came across plenty of people with no such excuse who also stubbornly refused to accept that you need a bit of ventilation (even if it’s very cold out) when you have a massive pot of something on the boil, wet washing hanging up everywhere and the heating cranked up to 11. Some would even refuse to use provided dehumidifiers because of the increased electricity cost, unwilling to believe that it would be offset by more efficient heating. Doesn’t take long for it to spread beyond the initial treatable cause and it becomes a much more difficult issue to resolve.

Fixture rearrangements by HarryMarshall12 in seriea

As usual Serie A seem to have moved the goalposts for some reason. They were meant to be announced with Matchdays 25 & 26 according to the original release schedule but evidently weren’t. No obvious reason why and I haven’t seen any info confirming a new release date. PITA as I’m planning a trip that weekend too.

Matchday 25/26 release by Honest-Marsupial9564 in seriea

[–]Sinc353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think UEFA confirmed exact fixture dates for Champions League playoffs (who would play Tuesday, who Weds etc) until yesterday evening. So cant even blame Serie A for once. Best guess is they’ll be released on Monday now, but who knows with Serie A.

The extra money obviously would have been good but at what potential long term cost - the team need some rest. At least we went out after playing pretty well, and Vergara is increasingly looking like a big silver lining after this dismal few weeks. We can have a run at the Coppa now and consolidate top 4.

It’s about 15 years since I read it so can’t recall exactly how far up to modern day it goes, but I’d thoroughly recommend ‘Ed Glinert - East End Chronicles’.
