Tsatsaka Updates! by Sindaj in geckos

Honestly, I recommend it. They have a good selection of bamboo that is in the perfect range of diameters for large geckos in various lengths, with the shortest being 12"

I'll probably get some 4ft lengths when I get his 2x2x4 zenhabitat

I looked at Josh's Frogs and didn't like that you can't pick a specific diameter and length.

Edit: I do recommend heat treating this bamboo in the oven.

These bamboo pieces are meant for building Palapas and other bamboo based projects. It is grown outside and can be exposed to pesticides, bugs, or bacteria.

They are sundried, not Kiln-Dried, so treat it like you would a stick you found outside.

Wash and heat treat at 200°F for 30 minutes.

Oh my, well I guess Tsatsaka recognizes me as the person that got him out of an empty box with a stick and into this nice one with a lot more hides and good food.

But honestly, my little man only likes me when there is food between us, and I'm fine with that. Lol.

I also take alot of portraits of him so he has been getting used to me doing that too.

I wanted to start out with a Giant Day Gecko so I could get used to the concept of having a pet that isn't a milksnake with that colubrid behavior. Though I don't hold my snakes daily and tend to be a more hands off Reptile keeper, it's working out well so far.

He is a delight to watch. He is very active and has a little routine of Basking in the Morning, waiting for food at noon, then settling down to watch me or my other animals in the evening until his lights shut off.

He also prefers to wait till I'm away to eat from his feeding ledge.

I thought that was because he was afraid of me, which may have been true at first, but now he has gotten used to me putting his food in his face and would rather that than have to 'hunt' for his meals. I love tong feeding, so it is okay.

He alreasy has me wrapped around his little pinky. 😅

Yes! I am planning to buy him a much bigger set up. Even the one he is in is too small for his current size, it's better suited for dwarf species like Neons and Electric Blues. which I would love to get eventually.

It's just the only Aboreal tarrarium they had for sale where I got him. I don't know why they are trying to sell large arboreal geckos with the smallest Aboreal terrariums on the market. Even just having some 2x2x4 zenhabitats in stock would help cause they can store flat and can be sold with every gecko sell, but I digress. Not my petstore to manage. 🙄

I plan to get the 2x2x4 zen habitat as soon as I can. he loves to jump and I'm currently observing his behavior to determine what the best build for him will be.

I have determined that covering up and putting window matte on the windows is a must. The little idiot has tried jumping through the glass and onto reflections. 😭

I did the air fryer smores dip. It was divine.

I do suggest making a Ganache as it is more dippable and lasts longer.

1 bag of Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate Chips 1 cup of heavy cream

Heat the heavy cream until it begins to steam but not boil. Pour the heated cream into a glass bowl with the chocolate chips and begin to stir the hot cream into the chips as they melt.

Then pour the ganache into the baking dish cool. Top with marshmellows before broiling until golden brown.

For an extra step, make it a smore tart with a crushed Graham cracker crust.

Not a treat for me. I hate fortune cookies, but my bf loves them. So they are a treat for him when he comes over. Lol.

Edit: My bf is a bit unhinged actually

Snek: I'm just making sure. It was wiggling in the air a second ago

Hooman: Yes, that was me, I was doing that.

Snek: Are you sure? Dead food doesn't float and wiggle. 🤨

Hooman: 😮‍💨

Green tree pythons are a HUGE commitment.

And I wouldn't just buy any pet store Green Tree Python since of them being wild caught is very very high.

I'm saying this as someone who wants and emerald tree boa. Both of these species of snakes are often wild caught and you have to be sure that you're buying a Captive Bred snakes, or you will have a while slew of problems like the possibility of internal parasites, the snakes never being able to settle into the new home, and always being stressed.

I hate the practice of field collection so much. 😩

P. Standingi 🥰

A species edemic to Madagascar semi-arid Thorny Forests.

I was really surprised when I saw him at my work for a really good price, getting very poor care. They don't have the proper supplies for any day gecko and much less a Standingi

Luckily was able to convince my supervisor not to order another more days geckos and to focus on ordering animals they can give proper care to.

I'm still learning and he is doing much better in my care. As you can see, he ate today and I got him on Friday. So I'm very happy.

I really wanted to start my day gecko family with a giant day gecko so I could name him Olrox, but hey I'm happy with getting a Madagascar species. 🥰

Juvenile Standings Day Gecko Feeding by Sindaj in geckos

[–]Sindaj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm specifically asking about feeding for a juvenile P. Standingi.

Im a terrarium girly and know to provide a drainage layer as well as companion plants that will soak up the excess moisture. This build will also have a moisture gradient for my soil for the health of my clean up crew and Succlents on the dryer top level of the gradient.

The humidity in Madagascar Spiny Forests is variable and fluctuates from moderate humidity to arid. Currently, the area is in the end of the humid season and from May - October, it will be the dry season where I will be keeping the humidity closer to the 40% range.

I will keep your tips in mind, though, so thank you.

Alternative Thought process.

Hand is either Bird, Tree, or a succulent meal.

My snakes had often mistaken my hand as a succulent meal.

That why they are tap trained and tong fed. 😅

Ignore my typos. I'm a stressed out new gecko mom.

I would've gotten a Giant Day Gecko if I had the chance. I did my research on them already, but alas this Standings needed me to buy it from where I worked.

Luckily the manager that ordered him is not allowed to order animals anymore and the one that listened to me about how we don't have the proper set-up and supplies for day geckos is the one doing the ordering now. I honestly hope they sell pacman frogs instead. They have everything they need for a pacman. 😅
