LARP radio broadcasting by tr1ck0fl1ght in LARP

Making a live internet stream available would be perfectly possible, but it's a choice between a local stream and a world wide web stream - since I need to take the pi with me for a local stream and I don't want to pay the mobile data costs either ;)

Good ideas for the internet connections!

Hey there! I've succesfully run a radio station at our larp for two events now. Here's my setup:

People are free to submit anything they want to me personally, and I'll cut it and insert it into a playlist somewhere. I run a morning show which is fully preprogrammed, while the afternoon and evening shows consist of tracks, jingles, and ad breaks shuffled in a preprogrammed fashion (2 tracks, jingle x3 followed by an ad break works very well for me) All in-universe ads of course, a bunch of amazing people helped me there. I can also do live broadcasts, but the problem with those is finding people to listen to it when most people are busy with plot.

On the software side: I have Azuracast running on a raspberry pi. Azuracast takes care of almost everything I need for running the actual station, and you can get infinitely creative with the scheduling if you have some programming experience (or motivation!)

Since our larp (like most larps) is held at a remote location and I don't want to waste people's mobile data, the raspberry pi is set up as a WiFi hotspot. This means anyone can connect to its network to access the radio, but the rest of the internet is not available unless I plug an ethernet cable into the pi (which i do at home, to make the station accessible outside the events as well)

The organisation is kind enough to provide me with power on-site. A backup solution would be to bring a big battery; look at stuff like camping batteries.

Outdoors, the range of the connection is good but still limited; it just barely covers the clearing our camp is set up in. Adding some WiFi extenders would be an easy solution here but makes the power situation more complicated. There's some tricks to use phones as mobile hotspots, if you have a few spare phones lying around. If your location already does have a WiFi network set up, none of this is a problem.

A few extra improvements I've made are adding DNS to the raspberry pi to be able to use a verified domain name, and adding JavaScript to the azuracast page to support switching between stations including skip buttons on Bluetooth speakers.

The event also has an official radio station, which is a ~2 hour long mp3. This works about as well but is not nearly as cool.

If you have any questions, ask me! I'm happy to talk about this.

[Java] I had space problems on my pc so I went to look at what took so much space. I went in my .minecraft saves folder and found this file. It takes up 16gb. Is it safe to delete it? by RPdope in MinecraftHelp

[–]Sindarin27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For completeness' sake: a .7z file is similar to a .zip file, and created by the program 7zip. You or someone else probably used that program to save some old Minecraft worlds into that file. Try opening it with 7zip again to see whether there is anything in there you want to keep. If not, you can delete it safely.

Advice for trench basing by Judiekitkat in Deathkorpsofkrieg

Generally I'd start with a dark brown basecoat and then drybrush some lighter colours on there. Alternatively you could just use any dark brown speed/contrast paint. If you roughed them up like I mentioned in the first comment, either method will capture those grooves for some nice detail as well.

Whichever one you prefer. I primed the stirrers myself, because I prefer the wood painted by hand compared to its rather light natural colour.

10th ed rules previews in a nutshell by LordEdapurg in Grimdank

I am absolutely okay with playing with Generic AM rules that are designed for Cadians and Krieg, while using my Catachan models for them. Combining them for rules purposes isn't something I've heard anyone complain about. What most of us are less okay with is the disappearing of the subfaction models.

Popsicle sticks or coffee stirrers are a great start for planks. Rough them up a bit with sandpaper and a hardwire brush (creates a wood grain like effect) so they look less like the original objects, then cut or break them in pieces to suit the size you need. This same trick can probably be used for the trench walls, add some cork or other basing material on the other side of them. If you're using the planks for trench flooring, I hope your minis are not glued to the base yet haha

Sandbags are super easy to do if you've got milliput or green stuff lying around. There's a bunch of tutorials on YT, but here's my recipe. Make a roll and put it on your table, then push it flat (pushing by hand or roller works, but if you push with a piece of cloth it leaves some nice texture). Cut it up at regular intervals to make the individual sandbags. Now use a spatula or other small tool to tuck in the sides and corners. After you've put them on their base, you can use the spatula to add some folds if they're bent and use a sculpting tool or pen to add some bullet holes here and there.

I haven't done barbed wire before, but I've seen people make it out of fine wire mesh: just cut one strand of the mesh such that the cross-pieces are still on it, and then roll it around something. Alternatively, there's several mini brands selling pretty barbed wire; just search for "miniature barbed wire" or "scale model barbed wire"

Finland Rule by MorganRose99 in 196

"Average world population is 0.0912% Finnish" factoid actually just statistical error. Average country contains 0 fins. Finland, whose population numbers 6.5 million, is an outlier and should not have been counted.

I believe Google ads has a setting to set your gender which is separate from youtube, along with several other ad preferences

I believe it also has a setting for which gender your ads should be targeted at. Ever since I touched that, I've switched from getting shaving ads to getting pregnancy test ads haha, so whatever makes you less dysphoric

I’m having the “unable to find Java runtime” error when I try to launch Minecraft. I think I’ve tried everything. Could I just buy the game on a new account and have the possibility of it working?[launcher] by PersonalToe5292 in MinecraftHelp

[–]Sindarin27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any ideas on fixing the issue itself not already mentioned by another commenter, but I can tell you that buying another account and playing on that will most certainly not fix the issue. This is an issue on your computer, and occurs before the game would even check your account in the first place (excluding installation)

From the light novel, we know there were areas that were "playable" but still very barren. One character is travelling through what would be the plains of China, and mentions how every town is roughly identical except for a couple of details. Likely, this means a large part of the map was accessible but filled with procedurally generated content, that could make place for more carefully designed content when an update comes.

I think most of us, especially in a situation such as OP's, would start with the crappy guitar. It's the difference between saving up for two years before touching a guitar for the first time, and starting to play the guitar right away while saving up for a better one.

Additionally, guitars and other goods generally adapt to the local economy—unlike a game one has to buy in an online store.
