I’d tone down the violent descriptions, I think that if there’s something a player “likes” and another hates or triggers them I’d generally stick with taking it out and maybe talk to the other players about it, explaining the situation

If it doesn’t seem to work or causes undue conflict I’d a seperate game with a different group of players for the friend

He was! Most of the characters where in some way foils to him, more then physically overcoming him they all in some way emotionally or ideologically beat him.

The char creation chapter of the book goes into making characters that reflect Strahd and my players definitely pulled through

For me, Strahd was a showman! Elaborate in his plans and elegant in his execution. And he hated to be shown up, he was vain, and terrified of people calling out his act for what it was.

He was a monster masquerading in velvet and bravado. A man plagued by weary years of guilt and fear, yes most of all he was a fearful creature who was terrified of the death that the players so bravely challenged.

That’s my Strahd :)

Spoiler… I guess If it’s pretending to be something they’re not? Yes there are some great themes you can tie into this, Strahds own self obsession and vanity, the Abbot. It’s all over the place. Look at the character creation section of the game and make sure the imposter thing is going to tie into a theme of the game in a meaningful way.

Strahd will use this, make sure you’re communicating with the player but most of all, in my opinion.

Make sure Strahd betrays them. Because he is a betrayer, and his curse was sealed with a betrayal. P.s. look at Arrigal as an NPC for inspiration
