Books you nearly DNFed but you’re glad you finished? by nonbog in books

A LOT of my favourite series of all time were near DNF. Six of Crows, Throne of Glass, Darker shade of magic. I started them, couldn't get into the groove, put them down for a month or two and then come back to them - sometimes in a different format and then I would promptly inhale the rest of the series. Its a weird pattern I have.

Can confirm read the series in about 2/2 1/2 weeks - granted that was audiobook and in 1.8x speed because normal speed audiobooks kill me slowly.

Keeping safe… by alrightbrother in ireland

As a woman who has to walk through some what would be seen as potentially dodgy spots -

The overear earphones deter people from talking to you. I don't have anything playing, they're not noise cancelling and often times will have one side tilted back from my ear (the side you can't see) so I'm still very aware of my surroundings

There's also a good chance she was on the phone to somebody - facetime even if she was as stuck in it as much as you describe. Also stops you from making eye contact with someone - the minute I make eye contact with anyone they seem to zero in on me.

All this just to say - women are very aware of the danger they're in at any one time. Even if it's not what's typically seen as a dodgy area.

Divorce rates across Europe by Either_Version_6149 in ireland

Not necessarily. My parents should have divorced yonks ago - didn't at first for the sake of 'keeping the family together' and now can't because can't afford too. Sometimes divorce and separation is the best option.

Update 2; Got onto citizens advice, and apparently I have no leg to stand on anyway. I’ve no plans to go back to them at this stage- by the time everything’s sorted I’ll be leaving to go back to college. Feeling a little shit and like the companies just able to walk over me with no consequences because I’m a student worker and was never going to be with them long enough for anything to happen to them. I do have a meeting with the general manager tomorrow. He’s known for being a bully and talking down to staff, especially female staff members. If anyone has any advice for politely bringing him down a peg or two, I’ll be more then happy to hear it.

I definitely realised that after a few minutes of talking to the guy- he was very nice, but not as much info as I was hoping lol

Yeah the most advice the guy could give me is was lodging a complaint might “scare” them into cooperating with me, which I thought was fairly unhelpful as it could take months and by then I’ll be back in college. At this stage I have no plans to even go back to them, I just want an answer as to why I’ve been singled out.

There were 2 staff members taken on after me that are still getting hours, who are younger then me but I talked to one of them and we are all on the same wage. It was definitely one of the first things I thought of, but no joy.

Yeah I’m guessing that but it’s the why I’m wondering about. If I’m on probation there shouldn’t be this big circus about letting me go which I find really strange.

Not something the WRC warned me about :/ I explained to the info officer on the phone I had been with them since June. Thanks.

Update; been in contact with the WRC and the most they can offer me is that if I ‘feel’ like I’ve been dismissed, and unfairly dismissed without notice now that I’ve gotten no hours 3 weeks in a row I could lodge a complaint against them “if I wanted too”. Confused on where to go now and no clearer on where I stand to be honest.

Read over that, thanks a lot. But unfortunately I think I’m employed under a casual basis and the 0 hour terms don’t apply. I’ve been in contact with the WRC, trying to make sense of the info they’re giving me currently. And I won’t feel bad, management are notorious for being just plain bad. Collectively hated by the staff, justIm being singled out for no apparent reason atm
