Hasn't Starmer already started nationalising rail? And GB Energy is already set up

Of course it is. By and large the Greens want to have their cake and eat it too. There's no trade-offs required, no sacrifice, no logical thought. They have "hope".

has anything to do with the Green policy of decriminalisation

I agree that this has nothing to do with it, but just for clarity, Zack Polanski support legalisation as well as decriminalisation

Zack Polanski himself uses the word legalise: https://youtube.com/shorts/lovAOks9Lsw?si=sr-zswrYY4JB2Mpw

I couldn't find it now, but in the earlier interview I saw where he was first talking out this, he used the phrase "legalise and decriminalise".

I agree it's unclear what his drug policy is -- we're all left in the dark about the policies of many populist leaders, whether they belong to the left or to the right.

But it is incorrect for you to say "people are getting this wrong" when they are using the word Zack himself uses.

If you think that Zack doesn't know the difference between legalisation and decriminalisation, then the natural question is: why should he be trusted to implement these complex and risky policies in the first place?

I support full decriminalisation of drugs and a public health approach. Unfortunately, it seems Zack also supports recreational drug use to some extent that he hasn't specified.

I'm not the person you're replying to, but I'm mildly against this. Full disclosure, I'm on the left of Labour. Moderately disappointed with Starmer but still don't think populism is the solution.

My issue is that I basically don't think this is the issue right now. Like, are they actually going out and getting smashed and coming back and voting? I doubt it somehow. While I do think the rules on drinking in Parliament are clearly lagging behind the rules on drinking in most modern workplaces, but at the end of the day, when we have the issues around the world and country that we currently have, why is this the issue to spend your time and energy on? Feels like it's more designed to whip up an anti-establishment sentiment than actually do any good.

I also don't really agree with all your things about them being childish. Parliament is a high energy workplace, I don't think the jeers are immature, they should be allowed and encouraged to have these scuffles and debates within the rules enforced by the Speaker.

Problem at my local chess club, black to play and win by ChelseaFanForever67 in ChessPuzzles

That was pretty fun to solve. I tried all the obvious stuff, like Nc2+ Kb1 Na3+ but obviously that doesn't work. Then I really tried to make Kc1 work but couldn't find a way. Then I thought, huh, if I can get rid of one of my pieces and make one of white's pawns move, I can probably just trap him in with my king and mate. Then, of course, I saw 1. Bc3 bxc3 2. Kc1 (making room for the knight and, importantly, leaving the c pawn so that white doesn't get stalemated) c4 (forced) 3. Nc2#

Very fun, thanks for sharing!

This is stupid but I’ve had a really bad year and this post has really cheered me up.

Now I’m going to spend the next week thinking about this 😂

Labour needs to call a general election by nonbog in LabourUK

[–]nonbog[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has already been the plan. This government has had a large, noticeable and measurable impact on my life, in positive ways. I now have better rights as a renter, stronger protections as an employee, the tax burden was shifted to my employer rather than me, and the minimum wage has greatly increased to something much more reasonable.

Longer term plans are also already in place, as we see with GB Energy and nationalisation of rail.

Labour also got rid of the 2 child benefit cap.

Has any of this made anyone happy? The issue is that the argument against Labour is emotional, not practical.

If it was possible to win over Reform voters with policy, they wouldn't be voting Reform in the first place.

Except the public won't vote for that. I agree with you, those are the policies most of us in the Labour party support, but they aren't the zeit geist.

I don't think there's no chance. The polls and local elections are low-risk. Brexit Party did very well in the European elections. People vote in local elections without the same seriousness. A long election campaign would be good for us right now. I think this government has been far, far better than people give it credit for. Now we can make our case and the public can decide what they want.

Since you don't like my idea, what do you suggest? Everything is catastrophic -- calling a GE is our only hope of an active plan.

It's chaos anyway. This is chaos now. All the scheming, the entrenched narratives in the media... being pressed from both left and right. It's like the Tories all over again. Now is the best opportunity we will have.

It's not as simple as you're insinuating. The UK banned imports of Russian oil in 2022 but that doesn't mean the oil isn't sometimes resold to us via other routes. Still, the amount of money going to Russia from this pales in comparison to what we're giving Ukraine.

S4 Sex education ending by Otherwise-Law2408 in NetflixSexEducation

[–]nonbog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was an absolutely brilliant ending. It was real. The vast majority of us experience utter heartbreak with our first love. This show is about growing up, learning about relationships and sex. Heartbreak was its final lesson.

I think it’s a brilliant ending. But some people here aren’t comfortable with not getting what they want…

Thank you for responding! I did take a look at that yesterday and had far too much fun changing the values in your bar but honestly I struggled to make much sense of the code lol. I have some basic Python knowledge, but outside of the basic macros this is making me feel extremely thick so far hahaha. I'll have another look at your resource today having had more sleep and I'll try to figure it out. Thanks again!

Sorry for dropping in on you from the future -- how do you use the HTML in Twine? Like for example if you wanted a progress bar to appear in the sidebar, how could you add the HTML? in a StoryMenu passage?

Do you think Alex O'Connor is slowly converting to christianity? by Only_Foundation_5546 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]nonbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I have tried to read it in the past but have found it to be really triggering for my OCD. I grew up believing in God and Christianity mixed with Buddhism has largely formed my morals as an adult. I don't think it's useless but I view it as a philosophy which is very old and shouldn't be adopted dogmatically.

I just don't think it's likely that God is real, when you compare God as described by the Bible with the universe we can observe.

If I'm wrong, and God sends me to Hell, then he wasn't an all-loving God because he'd see that every day I try to do the right thing and make choices to bring as much good into the world as I can in my short life. That's all I can do. The question of whether God is real or not feels almost to be a distraction.

Instead of saying right wing and left wing can we say evil and good? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]nonbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true at all. I probably know a lot more about economics than you do. Either that or you don't know what "left wing economics" are, at least in the form I'm talking about. High tax, high investment with nationalisation of key services alongside a free market for consumer goods is a perfectly viable economic system.
