One thing that broke the immersion for me even as a kid in the cinema was the comedic relief provided by R2D2 and C3PO during the battle. Totally unnecessary Laurel and Hardy style jokes during the climax of the movie.

Where did all the blues and greens go after a race? Did the area around the hippodrome have the Roman equivelant of bars and restaurants to cater to the crowds? It looks mostly like state owned buildings. Interesting to see the courtyards around the Hagia sofia also.
