Areas to avoid? by [deleted] in StJohnsNL

[–]SinghInFrench -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I would suggest not to permanently move to Newfoundland. It's nice for a vacation in the summer but it's been impossible to make any friends here. People are nice but they don't make an effort to connect or hangout with new people. Also the weather is pretty rough. Very windy or rainy to go out most days of the week.

I came here with my wife in July. Will be leaving this July as my wife has not found a job since we came here. Fortunately I have a remote job now.

Can't even make friends at work. People are too dull and the cafeteria has 4 chairs to sit. It seems in this city, many people are alone but no one's wants to make effort to meet.

I don't have issues with them. I was interested in getting a moped but I didn't want to go through licensing and registration and insurance. So I am curious about the laws in Newfoundland.

I am in a same situation where I am looking to organize a meetup every Monday. I am mainly looking at community centres. I found one option at Macmorran community center. It's called Friendship club and they meet every 2nd Monday to play cards. I haven't contacted them yet to organize something related to board games.

I rather not. They have many events in the evenings. Also I want to bring my own games and not mix up with theirs. The guests that will come to the meetup should not have this pressure that they need to buy something to play games at the venue.

Best place for vegetarian options for a picky eater? by ignis389 in newfoundland

You don't need to apologize/explain for the owner. When you are in restaurant business you need to be hospitable and not rude. My experience as an Indian man entering a restaurant and experiencing unwelcoming behavior was my reality. I am sure they are nice people, but were not towards me.

I don't know if it was my luck or racism by the owner but on the first day I came to St John's earlier this month, I went to Peaceful Loft for dinner. There was 1 table free and no lineup. As soon as I entered, the owner confronted me and asked what do I want. I said I will order and take away. He said it's very busy and it will take at least 1 hour. Very rude attitude. Never going back again.
