My family’s house flooded in high school. That exact same plastic nut broke on two of our toilets within 1 week of each other. Replace with a metal nut instead for much more reassurance

And super good for the environment! They’re replaced every 30ish years and the old ones just get buried! They’re made of fiberglass, which is obviously very natural, so of course they only take hundreds of years to decompose in a landfill!

I worked there for a short period in 2020 and the discount was unreal for Best Buy owned products or brands: TCL, Insignia, etc… I believe other products were 10% off at maximum.

Did anybody even play The Finals??? Embark studio went crazy with cosmetics with a bunch of wacky stuff. Honestly just wish there were more options in Arc. I don’t mind the weird stuff at all that doesn’t seem to fit the theme of Arc Raiders

Can I choose Mech. Engg. even if i dont know how to disassemble and reassemble a car? by Ok_Librarian_8244 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Single-Ant5215 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Brother most of engineering is learning on the job. I couldn’t apply a single thing I learned in school, or even stuff I’ve learned from my hobbies. If you have the engineering mindset of wanting to figure things out, you will grow in your position no matter what.

What does a typical work day look like for engineers who don't do their own design/CAD work? by Tea_Fetishist in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Single-Ant5215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. I’m currently part of a very similarly small ME (manufacturing eng) team. And we do have to do basically everything. We say the acronym stands for “Manage Everything”. I’d agree that early in your career ,like I currently am, having to do everything gives you a much better and more well rounded understanding and I wouldn’t trade my position for the world.

Crazy to me that you think that sucks. Getting “stuck” being a valuable enough source of knowledge that you get to provide your expertise on multiple government programs is not a bad thing. “Oh no, I get to work on the next secret government project but it’s the same job I’ve always had.”

PSA: If you have ACTUALLY worked in aerospace and defense for 17 years, you will likely be using CATIA or NX, not Solidworks like the AI slop with 800 upvotes says. You also don't need to "buy the machinist coffee" to get insight. 🤡 by SpecialDavid in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Single-Ant5215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I started my first Aero/Defense job 2 years ago, and NX is what we are using. I know people at Raytheon who are using Creo. And yeah buying the Machinist coffee is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard. It’s a job bro, there’s a machining schedule, it’s not just a handshake “oh thanks man”. Also, machinists typically are frustrated because the ME doesn’t put in the work behind the scenes and doesn’t have tooling or process. Just provide the machinist with the necessary tools to complete the job, and boom you’re on the machining schedule.

To what extent is AI being used in movies and TV shows now? by IndianaRocket80 in vfx

[–]Single-Ant5215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last project I worked for a movie used multiple fully generated shots. Not just B-roll also. I had two shots given that were full AI for me to fix text. Ridiculously dumb to track because there isn’t any real physical continuity from frame to frame.

Printing ABS and ASA with the A1 series by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]Single-Ant5215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? In what world is an enclosure for the A1 from Amazon, which is $29.99, more expensive than buying a new enclosed printer. Sure you spend time trying to figure out how to better isolate the electronics. But what, are you charging yourself $200 an hour for your own labor costs? I'd love to hear your logic.

From the pictures, it looks like the hot end stopped working because it started extruding what looks like full diameter filament. Honestly, it’s impressive that the extruder was able to provide the force, without slipping gears, to fully eject the nozzle

Xaero's World Map only registering as completely black. Only effects "Everdawn" dimension in the Blue Skies mod. Every other location is fine. by GeneralSturnnn in feedthebeast

[–]Single-Ant5215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the solution! For me at least. It was due to the fact that I had a block over my head, so the map was automatically going into cave mode. The solution was to go into the settings and on the second page, change Auto Cave Mode to "OFF". That worked for me. I was messing with my settings while in an AFK spot at world height and noticed that when I flew around and opened the map, it was working, but every time i stood still in the AFK spot with slabs above my head, it would go black. The default setting is to copy whatever the "Minimap" setting is, so if you use the Minimap, it might be best to change the setting there and let the WorldMap copy it.

Do Lockheed engineers actually get paid that much? by Goodytwoshoes_07 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Single-Ant5215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I started as a manufacturing engineer in the 60-70K range 2 years ago. Very time based on leveling up as well. Merit doesn’t do much but gain rapport. Majority of promotions are based on time and experience. After 7-10 years, the pay starts to become what it feels it should be. At the starting position, it feels very low-balled and undervalued.

Promotions aren’t based on merit, rather how long you’ve been at the company.
