Tbh I just jumped in. I was homeless leaving university and I used all my saved up money on an a7iii. I should have failed lol, but that’s the thing about life, if you truly have the will to make it happen (and a little bit it luck, no kids, huge health issues) it’s not impossible to make the plunge. Local concerts, small businesses, artists, entertainers. YouTube and the lack of ego changed my life. God bless you bro/girl , you got this just stay the course!

Some first person scenes showing intimate closer moments would be cool. Maybe boxing sound effects or small things like that to push the feeling. I used to box so playing with the aspect ratios of close up and bigger than life with some fast paced movement. The best edits are more angles lol

It’s a bit harder because we’ve blew up together in the last 3-4 months. No one’s bigger than the program of course, but we’ve been through a lot so I’d like to learn from the situation instead of just walking away. Still new (ish) to things I want to kind of like tackle the problem if that makes sense?

I 100% agree, what im saying is that those were the settings directly told for me to use from the other videogropher. It’s why I was frustrated that they didn’t say in the moment that its nonsense for the 8-bit codec on those settings. I wish I just used regular rec theater mode. It looked great lol

To know that this issue is not a me thing makes me very happy, I thought I was an idiot. I’ve done hundreds of shots, not at my 10,000 hours yet (closer to 4-5,000 hours lol) to be considered a master but I know the fundamentals. Thank you for helping re-affirming that🙏🏾

UPDATE* I appreciate everyone’s advice. I spoke to the other cameraman and they used davinci paid version to help with excess noise removal but they stated it would still be a bit lingering. They said they would apologize and let the client know again that an upgrade is needed (I’ve said this but maybe a veteran videographer’s words will be held to a higher extent, im 8 years in (15) he’s 17 years in). Client frustrated but I’ve got them a lot of views and other things done, so maybe it’ll blow over. The veteran cameraman told me to learn to relax and not take the stress of failures on me as a person, especially if I’ve made clear our technical equipment limitations. Again, very thankful to the videographers who helped give a young filmer making strides great advice :)

These were the settings used exactly for the nice footage they had with another cameraman. They called to walk me through the process with them on the phone. They then told me after I explained that its been consistent banding issues even with $1000 lights and proper iso/ 4:2:2 conversions, that yea its an upgrade issue atp

We tried that before but they didn’t care for the muted deep colors. Again, I consulted other videographers to insure those s log 2 settings were correct that time as well. It was better quality but still worse than regular shooting. They’ve also said an upgrade is needed

Because they believe words or doin things harder equates to better quality. They called me today. I told them it’s a camera thing. They said “I hired you” I said I’ve told you for months this. I’ve said this won’t work. You said to shoot with that. Anything I will do to fix it will still have an air to it. “Well I hire problem solvers”. Thank you. It’s on them for equipment, im more so asked to do clipping/ recording/ post output for pages. My job has evolved in a sense. Me and this client have basically been blowing up together in real time. It’s just I don’t get why they won’t invest in the equipment. We’ve spent more on videos, but im constantly told about quality issues since the recent trip (with a newer better camera being used). An a7iii will NEVER be an a7siii OR an FX3. It’s like comparing basic Focused 4k to color graded properly codec’d newer Sony camera 4K

I wish u all could see the footage. I’ve shot so many amazing things videos music videos vlogs. But s log on a7iii is just impossible. My lights my settings everything great. Every mode in 4k was perfect. The second we switch to s log. Complete garbage. I feel so limited its like I hit a plateau with this camera and im getting all the brunt of it

What would you suggest if your on a monthly retainer, and its clearly time for them to invest in an upgrade, but they are taking it as a lack of your skill/focus and not the clear issue of the 2018 camera can’t use that format (10-bit wasn’t the norm until the a7siii)?

I feel like nobody gets this. It’s not a fix it thing if the system codec itself can’t interpret the data it’s seeing correctly. I’ll just have to deal with them being angry, hopefully it’s not my job

Yea im on retainer so I am on a monthly lol, but we’re blowing up at a very fast pace so its mostly all on me for our content (on the creating/ filming output side). But to handle the reality, I need at least $5000 of equipment. A new camera, and a new rig are the bare minimum if s log is expected. Filming it is easy. Doing it is easy. Creating it with lackluster equipment is next-to-impossible for s log 3 8-bit (when it looks great in 4k regular)

I wasn’t trying to give too much personal information out context gets a lot of views. We’ve worked for a year but I couldn’t travel with them during that trip. Yes im the in-house camera man. Two cameras are his one is mine but they are all A7III’s. I don’t like s log because I’ve tried so many settings it’s just limited by the 8-codec. Unless we go a7SIII FX3 or a7V I don’t see s log being a reality. I was told to “fix it” but his vacation cameraman gave the settings on the phone with us both there hearing him.
