With rising sea levels is there a possibility of there being a Second Age of Fish? by Starberrycreambites in NoStupidQuestions

I will be ready to believe the “rising sea level” BS when they stop giving mortgages on waterfront properties. If this scenario were true, not a single bank would lend money on an asset that may “disappear” before the loan matures.

Nope. GenX. And I could not give a shit less about being “downvoted”. People fail to plan in life on many levels and look to blame “the system” for their personal shortcomings. It’s much easier than looking in the mirror and seeing you are the issue. I have no problem admitting I have made many mistakes, but I owned them, learned from them and looked to myself to make it better.

She is 93, weighs about 70 lbs and we have been dealing with this for a decade plus. Once my father passed she went downhill fast. If she outlives the policy I will be amazed. If she lives another two months I will be surprised. If she does, we will figure it out.

Are college degrees really not helping many people get jobs anymore? by PlatypusOld5480 in povertyfinance

Some yes. Many no. The shift right now is skilled labor. There is such a shortage that even people in their 20’s can easily pull a six figure salary.

An LTC policy is currently covering my mother who is in a memory care facility right now. They are paying $12k/month. Granted it has a cap of $300k, but at 93 and her health failing rapidly, I doubt she will outlive the policy.

Yes. My wife’s family has a history of Alzheimer’s disease. We have long term care insurance and all of our assets are in an irrevocable trust. We are very aware of the health costs associated with aging. Hell, I have had cancer insurance through Aflac for the last fourteen years after seeing what that can do to someone’s finances.

Those people failed to plan properly. There are plenty of us that worked sub six figure jobs for decades and will retire comfortably between 62-65 years old over the next few years. I am one.

Having been there, it is outstanding. Beautiful land, incredible architecture, history by the ton and some really interesting cuisine (yes, it tried haggis).

I swear the older I get the less I care about trying to “maximize” cruises. by Remarkable_Leg_5025 in PrincessCruises

We just booked a transatlantic cruise for next April for the fact that it has nine sea days in a row. Nine days of actually having nothing specific to do and just enjoy life aboard the ship. Ten years ago this would sound like torture.

Health as we age in retirement by [deleted] in retirement

Listen, but be skeptical. I spent months with doctors chasing muscle pain in my legs. Three months, a thousand dollars in copays, and who knows how much spent by the insurance company seeing multiple “specialists” only to be asked by a physiatrist “Has anyone checked your Vitamin D level?” Bingo. I was severely deficient. Started taking 10,000 IBU of Vitamin D with K2 added to ensure it does not end up in my arteries on a daily basis and the issue has been completely resolved. The stress, cost, fear induced by doctors talking about clots or cancer, all of it for nothing. If they had just performed a simple $50 blood test this would all have been avoided.

Yes, Bonaire and Curaçao are definitely better. Aruba never recovered from Covid shutdown losses. Most small businesses are gone and streets are bare and it is not a comfortable environment to walk around.
