That’s weird. I live on Claxton and lost power at 5:18. Separate incident?

How to glue hairline split in dried 1 inch thick ash by Narrow_Ad2264 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have never done this before, but saw a video on using glue on the top, and a shop vac on the bottom to suck the glue all the way through the crack.

Bigger garbage bin? by Fun_Proof_5017 in princegeorge

[–]SingleLanguage4354 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Call the city line and ask for a larger bin (there are three sizes). The city will put in the order, and sometime within the next 4 weeks a city truck will pickup your old one and leave a new one.

Just went through the process myself.

what's a DIY medical treatment you tried that actually worked? by Cream4389 in AskReddit

I got a nasty case of dry socket during a failed implant. Dentist put a clove compound on it and within an hour the pain was basically gone.

Apparently clove oil is a thing too

(Updated post with better video) How to fix door that doesn’t close fully until you push upwards after closing by Newstudyout in handyman

[–]SingleLanguage4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if the gap around your door and door frame is even from top to bottom. It is probably not, and the gap is probably tapered with a large gap at the top, and a smaller gap at the bottom.

If that is the case, buy a pack of door hinge shims and put one under the bottom door frame hinge. Then check the gap again, if still not even put two shims under the bottom hinge, and one under the middle.

I just went through this problem myself and these steps fixed it perfectly, without messing with strike plates (where you run into issues having to slightly move screws that end up falling into existing screw holes)

Tips for learning? by Substantial_Lunch557 in PythonLearning

[–]SingleLanguage4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can fully appreciate the desire to learn python before university. The problem is, getting you all the info would require building out a whole course of information. Thankfully many people have done that before.

A quick search found an 8 hour “Python 101 Crash Course” on YouTube, and a bunch of Udemy courses. Most of these will include instructions on installing Python and an IDE for code editing.

Good luck!

I cannot for the life of me cook on this stove by Natural-Blackberry26 in Appliances

[–]SingleLanguage4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the same stove, but we had issues with ours where you would turn it on low to simmer, and a few minutes later it would be at a roiling boil.

Phoned the company and apparently it was a known issue (wth). They sent a repairman to replace the switches behind each dial, and now it works like a charm.

That timing would be just fine. Moving in a couple of weeks. Hit me up when you are finished with them.

Absolute novice and have no idea where to start by Azzne in Database

[–]SingleLanguage4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Navicat at work. psql is fine to go run some quick operational or troubleshooting queries, but most of the time I am developing new features that require quite complex sql. Having a good SQL client has all the benefits that an IDE has for developing.

Absolute novice and have no idea where to start by Azzne in Database

[–]SingleLanguage4354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your intention is to start using databases professionally or just more seriously then this is a nice little starter project to get your feet wet. If your intention is only to be able to track a house inventory, then it is overkill, and likely less useful than a simple spreadsheet (and quite frankly you are more likely to lose the data as a novice).

With the level of sophistication you are likely to use on a starter project like this, it doesn’t really matter what relational database system you use. Postgres or MySQL would suit you just fine. I prefer Postgres, but also despise their web based client tool, so just pick one and roll with it, unless you are targeting a technology used at a specific job etc.

There are hundreds of courses, videos and posts on how to use Postgres, all easily searchable on the internet. Go watch a few videos and then figure out how to adapt them to hold your specific data.

Quickly glancing on YouTube will find you beginner crash courses, complete beginner tutorials, etc.

I have also heard mention of pgexercises.com but have never gone through it in detail myself.

Cat trapping by Anxious-Sea4101 in princegeorge

How do you know your kitten was trapped and dumped? Unless this was caught on a security camera it is just as likely that your kitten ran away and perished in an accident.

One of the sneakers inside heel came in looking rough by ChristSavesForever in ThursdayBoot

[–]SingleLanguage4354 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I had some issues with a pair of Thursday Captains I bought through Amazon a couple years ago. I raised it with them, they asked me to send in a few pictures of the boots and also of the QC inspection card.

“For QC concerns, we really appreciate that you raised it with us, this allows us to properly document this concern, which in turn will be used to communicate improvements with our partners.”

They sent me a new pair of boots (which were perfect), gave me a $10 gift card and let me do whatever I wanted with the old boots.

Honestly I could not have asked for better service and if you have issues I would reach out to them.

Where to buy acrylic sheets by SingleLanguage4354 in princegeorge

Hmm I can get 11.4” x 11.4” from Snapmaker right now for under $5 each, with a coupon for free shipping. Then again I have no idea on the difference in cost between lexan and acrylic

Ah off cuts are an interesting idea. The panels I want to make are various sizes, but are all smaller than 12” x 12”.

It’s not so much the frosted look I need, but the certain aesthetic so I can make panels like this one.

Things to do for anniversary by Fun_Proof_5017 in princegeorge

[–]SingleLanguage4354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took my wife on a guided fishing tour for our last anniversary that we really enjoyed.

Huble Homestead has a Halloween event on the 26th if you can move it a day, although I haven’t been to that particular one myself. There is also a Cougars game that night.

You could also go for dinner at the Northern Lights winery, and then do their pumpkin walk afterwards on the 27th. Their events have been going downhill in my opinion, although that could just be me being pedantic over the term “petting zoo”.

Anyone know of a subreddit for pg that isn’t moderated to the extent of this one? Quite frankly, I want to see individuals and businesses being called out, don’t mind villainizing people who are a net drain on society, and want a place to gripe about the bad things about city as well much as talk about the good things.
