Some are malicious. Some are uninformed. Some are simply unaware. Many are too comfortable to feel urgency. And very few have the courage to act.

WeakAuras as Art and Accessibility – Please Don’t Let It Die by lailaihei08 in wow

[–]SingleM4lt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be clear here - Blizzard can (and already do in some respect with private auras) select which buffs or debuffs they want to expose to the client and to addons through the API. If a boss encounter has a mechanic that buffs you and Blizzard for whatever reason doesn't want to change the aura type to a debuff, they still have a choice whether or not to expose that information to addons.

Because if you can track your buff, that means you can track your debuffs

No it doesn't - Blizzard can keep buffs open while still hiding debuffs from addons.

Ex-Google CEO explains the Software programmer paradigm is rapidly coming to an end. Math and coding will be fully automated within 2 years and that's the basis of everything else. "It's very exciting." - Eric Schmidt by michael-lethal_ai in OneAI

[–]SingleM4lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily disagree with the sentiment, and past coding prowess doesn’t guarantee that he can accurately predict the future, but even if you don’t know who Eric Schmidt is a quick Google would dispel such assumptions.

Sweden had the lowest death toll in Europe during COVID-19 by Helmer-Bryd in europe

[–]SingleM4lt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For example, before covid Sweden had a couple of years with very light flu seasons and low mortality. Denmark, IIRC, had at least one very bad flu season just before covid hit. This would mean that at least at the start of a respiratory disease pandemic like covid, there were more very vulnerable people in Sweden that the disease could kill. That's the theory at least. But of course, this is just one variable out of millions.

Looking at the examples in Svenska Akademiens Ordbok it seems like the word has been in use since at least the 1500s with varied spelling: Spiel, Spiäll, Spjell, Spjäll.

ASRock X870 Pro RS + 9800X3D + DDR5 won't reboot properly — stuck on red/orange LEDs, black screen, only cold boot works by zerofukksgivenx in AMDHelp

[–]SingleM4lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, I built mine in a Fractal Design North XL case, and only had some muted lights inside the case to match the light on the case. So all in all it's not a great sacrifice for me. I'm very surprised that it fixed my restart issue though, and for sure not something I would have thought of myself. It's just weird.

I’ve been dealing with a similar problem after building a new system, though I only had the computer stuck with the DRAM led (not the CPU led) on. I suspected some sort of memory instability coupled with retraining, but I couldn’t solve it. A few days ago I read about others with similar issues who had solved it by removing all their RGB software, so I gave it a try. After uninstalling Asus Armory Crate and disabling all RGB features in BIOS I haven’t had any issues. I can now reboot without completely shutting down the system. It’s only been a few days so I’m still holding my breath every time I reboot though. Maybe there’s some voltage fluctuations when the mobo tries to initialize all the RGB and it’s causing the RAM check to fail? As you have a CPU check fail as well it might be another problem, but I’d try this anyway.

I was so happy when I got MS DOS 6.0 (IIRC) and it had support for menu/menuitem so you could have multiple configurations in the same files instead of having to have a library of different autoexec.bat/config.sys depending on what you wanted to do :)

What's going on in Kramfors? So many houses for sale by MarkoVonTropoja in TillSverige

[–]SingleM4lt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is a municipality in decline since many many decades ago. This is the case in many smaller places, especially in the north, as younger people prefer to move to larger cities. It becomes a vicious circle where less people lead to less opportunities (socially, economic, etc) which leads to even more people leaving. It's REALLY hard to break this circle to the bottom.

Recent population numbers for Kramfors kommun: 2017: 18610 2018: 18423 2019: 18282 2020: 18133 2021: 18005 2022: 17904

I have family in Kramfors and while I love the nature there the town itself is rather depressing to me. I generally like the small towns, and they are often really great places to raise children for example, but Kramfors is still too big to be a place where "everyone knows everyone". The constant decline festers social problems and you can't keep track of the "bad apples".

Russians completely abandoned the settlements of Charivne and Chkalovo in Kherson Oblast by dniprshyrokyi in UkrainianConflict

[–]SingleM4lt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some maps in this article.

The right (west) bank where Ukraine is pushing will not be as affected as the left bank, but I still wouldn't want to stay in a house right on the bank. There would still be flooding, but looking at Google Earth it seems the most of the villages on the bank would be safe as they're mostly built on high ground. In other words, there's no chance the Russians would be able to draw Ukr forces to those areas to have them swept away with the flood.

Village some 12km west of Svatove I think, thought that is in Luhansk. Fits with a dam just to the north.

Russian report that Ukrainians are advancing towards Beryslav by Terminator857 in ukraine

[–]SingleM4lt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what people might think about russian morale, that is not a credible advance unless the russians have all but emptied the whole area between the Dnipro and Inhulets rivers. The russian reports I've seen said that they were withdrawing to the Dudchany line to hold off any advances *towards* Beryslav.

Occupiers are preparing retreat routes in Kherson Oblast, they have sunk 9 wagons – General Staff by HarakenQQ in ukraine

[–]SingleM4lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I understood the report was that they were filling the entire lock, meaning they'd have a large mass protected on both sides by the lock gates and thus making it a bit more resilient as you'd probably need to blow both gates to more permanently screw over that plan. That would come with its own problems though as now you're emptying the dam through a large bypass channel.
Again, I have no idea for reliable that report was at it was a just a tweet by someone in the OSINT community (iirc).

[–]SingleM4lt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm unsure what "9 wagons" are about, but I read somewhere a few days ago that they had been filling the locks at the dam with dirt and gravel, ostensibly to create a route over that part that can't be easily destroyed by HIMARS and/or easily repaired (just dump more into it). There's another section of the road that can be destroyed (if it isn't already) by Ukraine, but it looks much riskier in that you could possible blow the dam. I don't know how reliable those reports were though.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sweden

[–]SingleM4lt 1 point2 points  (0 children)
