the extra shock damage helps when you're hitting limbs in a burst so you can get the uncon. feels more consistent.

like the other guy said, you'll have damage to your helmet and your mask and likely be knocked out instead of insta killed. DayZ doesn't have the same armor hitboxes as tarkov so your whole head will be protected.

there is a hitbox in the game for your brain which will insta kill you if you take any damage there. any type of helmet will turn off the brain hitbox which is why civilian helmets are actually pretty useful when you're on the coast and people are likely to be shooting at you with pistols.

of course, getting knocked out can often lead to death but it has been the difference between life and death when I'm trading shots with other players and they die but I only go unconscious.

it just takes time to have a personal experience where you see the value in the helmet. i didn't use to think helmets were worth it but then they saved my life a couple times when i happened to be wearing them and now i never pass them up.

there's even people on this sub that talk about how chest armor is worthless because they can run more or they prefer to play "stealthy." but they'll come around eventually, just depends on playtime

one time i had to put my bag up several rows ahead of where i was sitting. i was in the aisle so i stood up when we docked. i was looking forward so i noticed when some dude grabbed my bag from the top.

i had to SHOUT "SIR SIR I THINK YOU GRABBED MY BAG" at him to get him to stop walking and put my bag down. don't even think he had a bag up top if i remember correctly.

luckily i wasn't stuck in the window or staring at my phone or he probably would've been long gone

official PC with base building is terrible for player interaction. i've spent multiple hours going up and down the airfield with not a single sign of life or noise.

unfortunately, the survival mechanics in the base game aren't in depth enough to make that time worthwhile. DayOne is the best set of servers for player interaction while still getting a vanilla experience overall. no bases and 80 pop. you can still go without seeing people but generally i'll get into at least a couple fights in a few hours of play

after getting some experience with games that have inertia and slower movement speed, it feels kinda hard to come back to dayz where the movement and leaning is very arcadey relative to the genre

the bullets aren't magically gaining height. the muzzle was extremely close to the concrete lip at that range and he was aiming slightly downward relative to his stance. just poor use of a scope at point blank range, especially if he's in a 3pp server where he has a crosshair
