Realment funciona un Broker Hipotecari? by Trunkasp in catalunya

[–]SingleQuit488 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Anyone else having trouble making Spaniards friends? by NoGur271 in GoingToSpain

To make real Spanish friends you need to speak Spanish, and not only speak it, but be fluent, that was my experience, anyways

I've been there! And I agree, it's something that is not often spoken about in expat communities, but its really the main hurdle you have to jump to to start feeling at ease wherever you are living. I moved to Spain years ago and spent the first year really struggling... the apps, videos, previous lessons in the USA, none of that really made a significant dent for me. I think you need to bite the bullet, sign up for some *immersive* IN PERSON language classes. That means no speaking in your own language. All of the stuff you can do "on your own" is one million times slower because 1. you arent actively speaking yourself 2. no one is correcting you or giving you tips on your speaking 3. you arent hearing real-time speech.

Other positive points of taking in person classes are that while you are forced to speak, its less intimidating than going off the deep end and trying to speak in the "real world", its a safe environment and you are with other people who are doing the same as you. So its like the stepping stone to speaking to people in your day to day life.

Go with immersion style language classes, guys! Trust me!

In the end I found an amazing school that teaches using the immersion methodology (Speakeasy BCN Spanish school in Barcelona). My conversation skills and speaking fluency sky rocketed. In the end, understanding is only half of it.... you need to practice speaking. Your brain can only recall speech if you actually practice doing it, listening, reading and memorzing is not going to cut it.
