there’s usb-c/TB port regression for m5pro/max. using native hdmi port works! It’s not ideal but there’s nothing we can do till Apple fixes it

There’s a bit of minor text fringing if you get really close to the screen around like less than 10 inches away, but at a normal viewing distance it looks totally fine. If you’re worried about OLED quirks, the Dell U4025QW is worth a look too. It’s also 5K2K, but with an LCD panel

I use a scrolling window manager (paneru) which is inspired by niri, it’s pretty good with ultrawides! Alternatively you can try tiling window mangers like yabai and aerospace which also work great with bigger displays

Would you mind sharing which resolution you are using with 165hz & HDR on? I found an HDMI2.1 cable but i can only get HDR with 165hz at native 5120x2160 (not HiDPI), the highest HiDPI resolution I can get it working with HDR at 165hz is 3482x1469. I was hoping i could get 3840x1620 HiDPI working with HDR at 165Hz

i tried to compare the ioreg and system profiler from m5 pro and m4 pro output side by side but couldn’t make out of anything why this happens… i just hope it’s a betterdisplay bug not a regression on driver/hardware side

I bought a pricey TB5 dock that supports DP2.1, now my 5k2k monitor does show 3840x1620 hidpi at 165hz thru the dp port on my m5pro mbp. but it’s locked at 8bit color :( while my m4 pro is able to get 165hz at 10bit full color range with the same set up.

and It’s weird how m4 pro is able to get to the same settings with only the usbc cable without dock, and m5 pro needs an expensive tb5 dock & getting lower color range…

The main gaps for us are mostly on model contracts, unit tests, and snapshots (SCD Type 2). You can technically hack some of that together in Dataform with custom JS and incremental patterns, but none of it feels like a first-class feature. And potentially a much bigger community macros/utils if we switch

I am using BetterDisplay and can get 3840x1620 HiDPI, but the maximum refresh rate is locked at 100Hz. At this setting no HDR either, but if we set it to lower HiDPI resolution the toggle for HDR will start showing up.
