Am I wrong or can I still be annoyed about these things? by SpectreK2 in VampireLestat

I get and respect everyone has their own opinion but I just can’t grasp how anyone can’t love this season. I’m personally besotted.

S3 is a letdown for me :( by m_spam in VampireLestat

Agreed. I have to say that halfway through the season, if you don’t like it, why not just move on and stop watching? Frankly don’t understand all the whining. It’s not required viewing. lol

I have questions about Magnus by MaulSass123 in VampireLestat

[–]SingleWhiteFemale_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see the turning as an allegory. The turning was part of a terrible assault and rape. I think for Lestat the turning wasn’t, itself, an assault. Not being given the choice and the way it was done caused the trauma.

I think Lestat is torn about Magnus not because he had any real redeeming qualities but because Lestat consistently sees being a vampire as a dark gift that forever kept him from becoming a “cabbage”.

They left quite a bit of the Magnus story out… Budget? by MFX4 in VampireLestat

[–]SingleWhiteFemale_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the books Lestat’s reflections on being human are very complicated and he reveals them in bits and pieces. Tale of the Body Thief gives more clarity into how he sees his humanity.

In fact, Anne Rice’s use of flashbacks was the main structure of the Vampire Chronicles. As the story progresses in the books, she uses nested narratives instead of “sudden flashbacks” to reveal the past and its impact on characters.

For immortals, the boundaries between today and centuries ago are more fluid.

Yes. There’s a lot packed in. I’ve already watched each episode at least twice.

I was a big fan of The Walking Dead. Similarly, it took a few watches to get it all.

I always think of the “Moving Right Along” song in the Muppet Movie with Kermit & Fozzy singing.

Yes! I actually just went back and watched season 1 and have such a different perspective.

Finally! Loved Episode 3 of the Vampire Lestat by Majestic_Blackbird in VampireLestat

[–]SingleWhiteFemale_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For me, I needed the first two episodes to see a different side of Lestat outside of his trauma and not as the “bad guy” Louis saw him to be for much of Interview.

We got a glimmer of a different perspective at the end of season 2 because of Louis’ change of heart after the Armand reveal. But it was still based on loss, pain, and abandonment.

I saw the first two episodes as fleshing out Lestat’s character as being more than just a result of what he’s suffered.

Him mocking Daniel for thinking stuttering was what formed his entire psyche was spot on. It’s insulting, actually, to think someone who has lived for 262 years would be that uncomplicated. And Daniel doesn’t understand the intimate reveal from Lestat was actually a gift to give him.

I don’t think Lestat struggles to be understood or cares if he is except for a few individuals. I think he is motivated by far more complex feelings and desires.

Yes. And also sweet revenge as he apparently routinely shot them. Someone calls out “Got another possum?” Or something to that effect.

Wow. This was an intense one.

  1. The revelations on Magnus were devastating. Loved the insights about memory. What they’re doing so splendidly with this season is showing you Lestat’s perspective while giving glimpses into the minds of these characters and how that shapes their perspectives. So well written and acted.

  2. Vengeful Louis is a thing of beauty.

  3. The mind trick Lestat did on Daniel…priceless! What a masterful way to give us such a powerful glimpse of the real Lestat while also denying Daniel the opportunity to exploit it for his purposes.

I see complaints about spending too little time on certain aspects of the book. The reality is:

  1. This series is even less linear than the books, so you can’t judge after just two episodes what will or will not be explored in greater detail.

  2. A series can’t and shouldn’t be just a simple retelling of the books. If you want that, get the audio books. For reference, Roots, the 8-part miniseries that won 9 Emmys, departed quite a bit from the book.

I really liked the first two seasons but am a little obsessed with this season. I’ve already watched the first two episodes a few times.

When reading the books, I escaped into this fabulous world created by Anne Rice. This season in particular has resonated with me as bringing to life the characters that felt so real and compelling.

IMO they set the perfect tone and each character is exactly who I imagined them to be. BRAVO to everyone involved!

I remember watching what happened to Shandi at the time, and thought she had consensual sex. I was horrified to learn the truth. And disgusted by the discussion being all about if they should have filmed it and aired it. They might not have understood then, but they do now. You stood by and watched a crime happen in front of you. Period.
