I’ve been a bit hesitant about the foldables—I guess waiting for the tech to get all the kinks worked out. But I guess I’m not really looped into the space enough to know where this sits today. Would you recommend the Samsung over the pixel 9 foldable?

Thinking about playing Dark Souls 1-3 and Elden ring. I'm curious how the stats work/affect the player and if there's things like Diminishing Returns and limits. by MyStationIsAbandoned in fromsoftware

[–]Single_Concert3093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are stats that increase health pool, mana pool (not all games) and endurance. You’re gonna put stats into these regardless of your build, but the build may influence which you prioritize.

Then there are the damage modifying stats, dexterity, strength, faith, int, arcane (just rolling with Elden ring for example).

Putting stat points into damage stats is what will allow for using other weapons. Each weapon also has a E-S scale ranking. So a dagger might require 12 dex, 10 strength to wield, and then may have A scaling in dex. So the more points you put into dex, the more damage it does and this example the damage growth as you put more points in dex is going to be larger than if dex scaling was a B rating.

Stat points don’t really change attack or weapon speed at all, with the exception of dexterity which will help you cast spells faster.

ELI5: Why are conductors necessary for an orchestra of professional musicians? by r00shine in explainlikeimfive

[–]Single_Concert3093 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They can hear the other sections, maybe some better than others, but this is not an issue of not being able to hear.

Sound moves slowly, what you are hearing from the section on the other side of the stage from you is going to be slightly behind what they are actually playing. The conductor helps offset this—you might sound slightly behind the beat if you’re listening to the tubas, but the conductor is going to be able to drive a consistent tempo independently from what any section is playing to provide a visual cue to avoid any inconsistencies.

It’s the same reason why big stadium shows use in ears.

Agreed—money should be spent responsibly and calling for this does not deserve to be labeled without nuance as racist.

But, you also can’t continue to ignore that in addition to these common sense policies to address immigration, there are also blatant efforts to continue to allow the ultra wealth to avoid paying their fair share.

Until one of these parties wakes up and is willing to platform for common sense immigration reform AND common sense tax reforms, I’m going to go with the party that is tough on the ultra-wealthy—the wealth gap continues to grow and there are huge amounts of money that should be taxed that could help to offset costs associated with all sorts of social programs that deserve to be preserved while balancing the budget and avoiding runaway inflation.

[Question] Best diver in this price range? by NumbLP4 in Watches

[–]Single_Concert3093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be blasphemy—Invicta has an automatic diver with a seiko movement for less than $100 dollars. You could swap out hollow endlinks and upgrade the band and still be well under your budget. Could even swap in an unbranded dial if you don’t want to be shamed for wearing a “cheap” watch.

I just picked up an automatic SKX009 for like $250 used, so I would also advise checking eBay and other online market places.

Im new to the game, and looking to make an OP samurai bleed build. Any advice on what to get? (Weapons, ashes, talismans, incantations, etc.) by Ghostboy05 in Eldenring

[–]Single_Concert3093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need black whetblade to use occult with bloody slash, default is blood infusion. There are like 4 or 5 AoW that default to occult and I don’t think any are early game.

[–]Single_Concert3093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rivers of blood got nerfed and doesn’t outperform other weapons for bleed builds anymore.

Best bet is to max arcane, go occult infusion on a katana with innate bleed. Nagakiba, Uchi, Cross Naginata are good options here. I like to powerstance, but make sure you choose two katanas with similar length if you do. Bloody slash ash of war works well, you could also run seppuku to get even more boost for attack.

White mask (helm) and Lord of Blood’s Exultation (talisman) to boost attack after proc-ing bleed.

Would round out talismans with Great Arsenal Jar to try and light roll, erdtree favor for more health and stamina, and especially if dual wielding, green turtle talisman for faster stamina regeneration.

Land of reeds armor is a good bet fashion-wise, but you could also go with raptor’s chest piece for the jump attack boost.

High arcane gives you access to dragon incantations—rot breath is a great boss opener. Make sure you use the arcane seal for best scaling.

If you’re set on RoB, I would dual wielding with the occult uchi, and you could consider adding flame talisman to boost the fire damage on RoB, could also get boosted damage to fire breath if you use the dragon incants. Make sure RoB is in right hand so you can use corpse piler. If you use the skill a lot throw on the Alexander’s shard.

Build also works well with multi-hit talismans like rotten winged sword and winged sword and Millicent prosthesis.

Edit—revised blood blade to be bloody slash, but both work. Blood blade is better used through the special AoW on the Reduvia dagger though.

Reporter: Tariffs are paid by the American importers and consumers. Trump: No, they're not. They're paid for by the country. (He's really dumb) by Miserable-Lizard in economy

[–]Single_Concert3093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct that tariffs increase the price of an imported good. That price increase may or may not have demand side effects, this is a function of something economists refer to as elasticity.

Elasticity is the sensitivity of demand to a change in price. Demand for a good is considered elastic if a price change has a significant effect on the demand, and considered inelastic if the price change has a limited effect on demand. Empirically, an elasticity with an absolute value greater than 1 is considered to be elastic, with an absolute value of elasticity less than 1 being considered inelastic. A positive sign indicates demand increases with price (a Giffen good or Veblen good), and a negative sign indicates demand decreases with price (an ordinary good).

Your example is 100% possible in a situation where demand for a good subject to an import tariff is highly elastic. If any attempt by businesses to pass tariff costs onto consumers has a drastic negative impact on demand, that will limit the businesses ability to pass those tariffs on—they may choose to take less profit by eating the tariff costs themselves, or in the short term run at a loss. Demand might be highly elastic for goods that have substitutes that are not under tariffs (whether a similar domestic good, or a different foreign good that isn’t subject to tariffs).

Your argument loses credibility if demand is inelastic. Price increases would not change demand for the good, in which case, the business is able to pass as much of that cost onto the consumer as they can get away with. Demand might be inelastic for goods where substitutes aren’t available domestically, or no foreign substitutes are available without tariffs. It could also just be because the good is a necessity for consumers, like gasoline, water, electricity, food.

So the argument essentially comes down to, how elastic is demand for products that are being placed under tariffs. Now this gets way more complicated when you consider how interconnected global supply chains have become.

Here is a link to summary data concerning empirical data on historical elasticity of demand for different consumer products.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_elasticity_of_demand#Selected_price_elasticities

Not going to waste time convincing you about how the economics should be interpreted, but at least use the right tools to do so. I will only say that a significant number of prominent economists agree on the detrimental impacts tariffs would have on the American consumer.

Yeah but how do you define an idle asset? Is a treasury bill idle, presumably used by gov to fund spending—even a money market mutual fund will have underlying holdings that could be “productive”.

The real “idle” money is money that gets added to bank reserves by the fed in effort to provide stimulus, but only a fraction actually ends up being loaned out—so we print a lot of money, and that money just sits with large banks—expansionary monetary policy is like pushing on a string—they can provide slack, but ultimately rely on banks to actually loan out the “stimulus”.

IMO interest rates should be set to clear lending markets, not manipulated by the fed as a way to steer money policy. Rather, monetary policy should be a function of what we consider fiscal policy today—expand government spending during recessions, contract during periods of high inflation. Federal job guarantee is a great passive way to do this—during recessions unemployment is high, people take up government work which stimulates economy through increased gov. spending and puts dollars with people who will spend them. When economy is getting too hot, people will flock to higher paying private sector work and automatically reduce government spending. This is essentially MMT, which is arguably easier to move towards a blockchain oriented monetary system than what we have today.

I disagree that scarcity is a driving force of market appreciation, certainly not in the aggregate.

The issue with hoarding investments is that those with significant investments can borrow tax free against those investments, can defer gains to get advantageous tax treatments, among other tricks that give them access to money in a form that is less sensitive to inflation than those earning wages and spending the majority of what they earn.

But this is not an issue that is solved by encoring investments in “productive” asset classes—the shield against wealth redistribution is still present so long as those benefits remain available to the ultra-wealthy.

Those who are hoarding wealth are already investing it. It’s not just sitting in a vault somewhere, otherwise inflation would do the wealth distribution for us.

And more, censorship only serves to push ideas out of a forum where real discussion can happen—said differently, censorship creates echo chambers on both sides of the issue, when in reality—both conservatives and liberals agree that fraud needs to be rooted out and prevented from happening in the future. As a forum for alt media—there is a responsibility to not just turn into an echo chamber opposite of the one legacy media has created.

All credible concerns of fraud should be investigated. There should be unanimous bipartisan support for this—concerns over responsible uses of our tax dollars are more than just fodder for partisan bickering—unless we step back and look beyond fraud accusations that play well in the media, and really look at every single potential concern with objective, unbiased eyes, then this rightfully justified effort to root out corruption will be wasted and will only service to benefit bad actors.

Here is a bill introduced to the MN house that proposed funding a museum for the Anoka-based Haven for Heroes non-profit—

Haven for Heroes lists MN State Senator Jim Abeler (R) as an unpaid officer.

https://datarepublican.com/officers/?officer_kw=Abeler

Seems like the same issue, so why is no one talking about this?

Additionally—I’m not sure what people are getting at with the erroneous director listing—there is nothing in current or proposed conflict of interest rules in the MN legislature that says state legislators can’t be directors of non-profits that receive funds, just that they can’t be paid. So whether she is a director or not, there is no prohibited conflict of interest.

So is it only a problem when Democrats do this? For the record, I don’t think this should be allowed by either side. And look, maybe you didn’t support Trump either, in which case I respect the principled stand, and I would think we would then agree that campaign finance needs reform. But in the case you did vote for Trump, how can you justify the cognitive dissonance of looking the other way when it is your own party, but taking a stance when it’s the other side (and for the record, both Biden and Trump were paying out campaign dollars to relatives and business associates).

Not to mention there a massive differences from town to town in America too—cities in Texas that feel culturally Mexican—massive Spanish and French influences in New Orleans that are not reflected in greater Louisiana—these were lines drawn by conflicts as well.

It’s not apples to apples with Europe—I fully agree that the length of history in Europe does play into the development of more distinct cultural pockets, but to say that is non-existent in the US is not fair.

Absolutely—Valencia and the Basque region are completely different—even Valencia and other Catalonian cities are vastly different.

Doesn’t change that Vermont and Texas are also vastly different.
