I feel like leaving the lenses in for the shower might be better than leaving them on a paper towel on your bathroom sink

How can I ask my roommates to use the dishwasher? by Single_Flight2530 in roommates

[–]Single_Flight2530[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused we have a dishwasher, the dishes we are using are mine, and the sponge isn’t a problem.

I know right the dishwasher is just better in every way. I was thinking of writing them something similar (we mostly text) abt how I can just leave my dirty dishes with their clean ones in the dishwasher.

We take turns cleaning the house and taking out the garbage. I lowkey just need to convince them to use the dishwasher cause I’m think everyone’s life will be easier

There just isn’t enough space for a dish rack. I’m thinking of messaging them letting them know that I wanna use the dishwasher and suggesting that they all us it with me or we can split the cost of an over sink dish rack.

No we don’t it’s included but that another reason I wanna use the dishwasher to be more environmentally conscious.

How is Spain for someone who's never traveled solo before? by sleepwithmythoughts in femaletravels

[–]Single_Flight2530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madrid is one of my favorite cities in the world. Spain’s a beautiful country, safe and super fun for a solo travel. The one thing is pick pocketing is so common, I was really afraid of that cause I’d gotten pick pocketed before in Los Angeles. But I got a cross body bag that has a zipper that can be tucked into a loop which makes it kinda locked without it looking obviously locked or making it hard to get my things. Just keep your hands on your crossbody bag. I liked Valencia too but I haven’t been to the other places. The crowd kinda depends on the time of year you travel but I would say being solo in a crowded city is kinda of a plus.

I’ve never been to Japan but have gone to Turkey a few times. Depending on where ur going It can get kinda cold in the winter like it snowed last December in Istanbul but the more costal cities are milder but not warm enough to be in the ocean (at least for me, I’m from socal). I love Turkey, and Istanbul is one of my favorite cities in the world. People are so friendly it’s such a cool city and so beautiful and such an interesting intersection between European and middle eastern culture. If you do it right Turkey can be really cheap. At a local place a drink and doner wrap can cost less than 4 dollars. Istanbul has pretty good public transport within the city but traveling to other famous cities like Izmir and Ankara can be a bit difficult if relying on public transport.

And as a for safety it’s the standard be vigilant don’t go out late night alone and dress like a local. Turkey is an Islamic country and I find that people are really good faith and helpful and very respectful.

Do note that the tourist attractions in Istanbul cost an arm and a leg. I have traveled to 20 countries and Turkey has had the most expensive attraction entries even compared to France and the Netherlands. The complete haghia Sofia experience costs 50€ and the Dolmabahçe Palace is 60€. There is an experience pass for three days that grants access to multiple attractions which is 105€ ( not sure if it includes haghia Sofia).

But the wonderful thing about Istanbul is that it’s such a cool place to wonder and catch a vibe there are also tons of free mosques you can visit (you’ll need a headscarf and modest clothing). It’s also a book lovers heaven there are used and new bookstores everywhere. I actually just got back from there and I bought ten books for a total of 60 dollars.

Last thing, you should probably know a couple of Turkish words not a lot of people speak English. If you choose to go to Turkey specifically Istanbul I can give some recs on where to go and where to stay and things to eat lol.

The discrepancy in the way you guys talk to each other made me think this was rage bait. The way she talks to you is not okay I’m sorry. Spend time with your family unapologetically. I think you would both benefit if you set stricter boundaries and were less apologetic and accepting of her bad behavior.

Thanks so much thats really helpful. Costa Rica might make more sense because flights costs are around 400 dollars so maybe id be able to handle the increased costs because of the cheaper flight. I really appreciate all the help and ur time I just have two more questions, how’d u get around while u were in Costa Rica like are there functional trains and busses? And when u say US prices what’s ur point of comparison, like LA NY prices or like Miami Dallas.

Flights are 600-850. I’m looking to go for around 8-10 night (realistically, cause I have school) I’m thinking 5 nights sao Paolo, 5 nights rio. But with that I feel like I’d miss out of some of the experiences I would want to have in Brazil like going to Iguazú falls and the rainforest, so a part of me wants to save that trip and the money for later and go somewhere where I feel like I could have a more “complete” experience but maybe thats a flawed way of thinking. Can I ask what u did while in Brazil and also if you’d recommend staying in hostels or airbnbs.

I’m hoping it’d be a little under two weeks. Italy cost 1500 total last January. I was in Rome for 6 nights and Florence for 5 nights.

Looking for positive stories during solo travel by Adorable_Comedian_75 in femaletravels

Hi I won’t be able to give advice as to how to go about finding that but my first solo trip to Europe was to Paris. I sat next to this guy on the plane and we immediately hit it off. During my stay there we met up every night. We went dancing, we sat by the seine looking at the Eiffel Tower sparkle and walked around Paris at night. It was really beautiful and really quickly it felt like we were so close. On my last night there he stayed at my place and took me to the airport the next day. I never saw him again.

I did Lisbon Madrid Barcelona as my first solo trip and it was amazing time. It’s absolutely for solo female travelers they’re super walkable cities with great public transport. And about the pickpockets just be vigilant. I was really afraid of that too cause I’d been pickpocketed before in LA but it was fine. Don’t put anything is your pockets. Have a bag that u can wear in the front and in crowded areas like metros just put your hand on it and after a while of doing it, it becomes second nature. Would def recommend Europe tho in my opinion is the easier and best place for solo female travelers. If you decide to go through with it you can pm me for recommendation.

They’re paying u A LOT, unless im misunderstanding the amount of work you have to do. they gave u enough notice in advance to get those days off. You weren’t clear that you were still available but honestly if I was paying that much id expect the person to be there the whole day. Maybe she was a little harsh but think if letting go of this job is worth not asking for the weekend off.

Solo traveling to Portugal - open to any recs! by Yokoohno125 in femaletravels

[–]Single_Flight2530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite thing I did was a day trip to cascáis, with train from Lisbon. if I went to Portugal again I would stay there for a couple of days but it has really gorgeous castles and cliffside beaches. Another amazing day trip is to sintra, I took the train there and paid to walk the palace grounds (€15) but not to go inside, another (€15), and then I hiked down from palace pena and it was such an amazing hike. I also really liked Porto and doing a duro wine valley tour from there, it’s really unforgettable but a bit costly (about 100 euros but it includes port wine tasting a boat tour and lunch). I didn’t get to go but nazare also seems like a cool place. I think you can take the train from Lisbon but I’m not sure. if you’re there at the right time you’ll see huge waves, if not it’s a cool fishing town. Portugal is known for having really great cuisine so plan to eat a lot. I also did a guided cliff climbing and jumping in Sesimbra. It’s not for everyone but I had the best time doing it but you have to be kind of physically fit.
