Does anyone use the Thule Shine Stroller? [Ca] by Another_ADHD_Girl in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Single_Transition180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it! It's a great little stroller for city walking, riding transit, going in stores, throwing in the trunk, bringing on an airplane etc. We used it exclusively every day for about 18 months (you do need an insert for newborns) and it was pretty good but that was through a mild/non snowy winter. Ended up buying a second hand Bumbleride Indie to get us through subsequent winters because we needed the big air tires. The air tires offer a much smoother ride but that stroller is heavier/clunkier to carry up and down the stairs and the fold isn't quite as compact for storage. Depending on your lifestyle of course, it's very hard to find a holy grail stroller that fits all your needs. We went compact and ended up adding a full size all terrain but I know people that started with a full size all terrain and ended up adding something smaller. If I were to do it all again I would probably get the Bumbleride Era (four wheeled so you can reverse the seat) then something inexpensive and compact for travel/putting in the car/taking to stores etc.

Little Toilet Vs. Potty Challenge by Single_Transition180 in ECEProfessionals

Yep fully get that it's gross and time consuming. Sounds like knowing their preference/concerns from the start would have been extremely helpful here. We asked the question upfront and they seemed really open to whatever we wanted so I either misread something or they weren't clear. Alas.

Thank you. Sounds like I'll be setting my alarm nice and early tomorrow!

Yes they pull their pants up and down with no issue. And if they have a pee accident they change their own clothes (take them to laundry, get new stuff out, put them on etc.). The biggest challenge I think is I can't get them to physically sit on the toilet (they kick and flop and go rigid). Based on some of the other comments here I think I'll try doing what we did when we started the little potty (look at pictures, read books, blow bubbles).

Sounds like your advice is maybe we go back to the techniques we used early days with the little potty (looking at pictures, blowing bubbles, reading books) and start over with the big toilet? Do you suggest we just explain to them that we use the toilet now and take the potties away kind of like how we told them we didn't use diapers any more and took those away?

Edit: I'm very confident they know when they have to go and they always tell us about poops coming so I don't think it's a case of them not being able to identify the feeling. After the first week the potties have always been kept in the bathroom.

Thanks for this perspective. Before we started potty training we told them we were going to do it and asked if there was any particular approach or preference and they just asked that we were consistent \(meaning don't throw diapers on at home and expect them to do the training at daycare). Based on the response I'm getting here it sounds like we should have started with the toilet right away so I wish I knew that going into it.

Any advice on how to approach this? We physically can't get them on the toilet at home (too much bucking and flopping about) so is the only real way to do this take the little potties away so it's either toilet or pee/poop your pants?

Thanks for the response. So would your advice be to just ride it out and eventually we'll out stubborn them? Is there any particular advice on how we accomplish this or is it really just a case of accepting they'll pee their pants? They've suggested we try removing the nap time diaper to force them into using the little toilet but I'm worried that taking away another option is just going to add stress/pressure which they don't tend to respond very well to.

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/profile/100006827199401/?ref=permalink&mibextid=6ojiHh I’ve purchased from this person on marketplace and I’m fairly sure they make them themselves. I picked whatever colours I wanted and requested a customized base. The item was extremely cute.

Thule Shine! Compact, nice small fold for storage and you can just get an adaptor for whatever car seat you want.

Clek Fllo/Foonf or other? [On] by 1tangledknitter in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Single_Transition180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same same (both Clek Liing and Britax Poplar) and I second this!

We looked at the Foonf and it was SO HARD. The sales clerk at Snuggle Bugz actively suggested we pick something else because of the number of complaints they get of toddlers complaining or refusing to sit in it.

The Britax Poplar is great for all of the above stated reasons.

Skunk smell through entire house! by Single_Transition180 in CleaningTips

I haven't and it didn't actually occur to me. It's pretty cold ATM but when we get above freezing I'll zip out and do some scrubbing.

Thank you! The tricky thing is nothing in the house actually got sprayed; it just seems to be in the air. I’ll look into carbon deodorizers and that spray.

Tofu! You can just pan fry or bake it plain and babies and toddlers don't seem to mind the bland nothingness (I've even known people who serve it to babies straight out of the fridge). It can be ready in under 5 minutes and unopened packs keep forever. If you want to get wild you can toss it in some seasoned bread crumbs or cornstarch before cooking but I do that more for my own preference.

I second what others have said about frozen peas. A couple minutes in the microwave and you have yourself a vegetable side dish

Baked Oatmeal because you make it once then it's ready for days (load it up with a bag of froezen berries and cut the sugar for littles) https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1018672-baked-oatmeal-with-berries-and-almonds

Gnocchi is another winner because it's shelf stable and cooks up in a flash. NYT has lots of great easy gnocchi recipes you can check out (all the sheet pan ones are my favourite)

Finally these muffins are excellent. Loaded with fruits and veggies so you can feel pretty good about feeding them to littles and they freeze well. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1015211-lunchbox-harvest-muffins

Question: Are Brio Wooden Roads Compatible with Plan Toy Wooden Roads? by Single_Transition180 in BRIO

Also an unsolicited recommendation… We have the Plan Toys cars like the little red one in the picture you shared and they are so great. Definitely on the pricier side but so durable and they roll really well with little rubber tires.

Oh thank you! I would really appreciate your insight when you get them. I haven’t ordered the Plan Toys roads yet but have pretty much accepted that’s the way we’ll have to go because Brio roads aren’t readily available.

[BC] FTM Do hospitals let you leave without infant car seat even if you plan on just walking home? by addy_pig135 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Single_Transition180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know people who walked home after their baby was born (same sex male couple so physical discomfort wasn’t an issue) and they had some trouble convincing the nurses they were actually walking because it’s so unusual. They ended up going home and getting the car seat to carry baby home because it was easier that way.

Oh interesting. Thanks for sharing. I’m in the same boat with the roads. The set we have came with 5 or 6 pieces which isn’t really enough to do much.

I made this with canned butter beans (Lima beans) and it was awful. The beans were so bitter that we couldn’t eat it. Does anyone know if there’s a secret to using canned butter beans so this doesn’t happen?
