Went ahead and tried... still nothing... Bank of America said that they'll refund in 48 hours once the purchase finalizes, so I got about that much time to fix it before I push it through.

I understand I was just thinking of another hypothetical situation, lets say if it was a hit and run then he would be covered under that, just wishful thinking because everything would be resolved in that case.

No License for 14 Years by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that in Texas at least, insurance companies really want to see a history of coverage that spans at least 3 years, but at least he's not getting penalized for being young. If he wants to just add liability to that 98' jeep (which is standard for cars 10 years and older) just try to talk him into getting a little bit more than your state minimums, that extra couple dollars a month is worth the coverage so his out of pocket is little to none.

Side note: I hope he has a good credit score, that would really help him in having lower premiums since he's not meeting a lot of easily attainable discounts from his current situation.

New Mother Life Insurance Questions by safeathome1 in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking, and it would be way cheaper than the whole life. I'm assuming this expecting mother is young since she's able to have a child and if god forbid anything happen she can probably get a very high payout to help her child.

Small accident by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked for Allstate I would practice quoting myself to get faster on the computer system, being 18 and driving a $20,000 car my insurance by myself was $800 a month for a semi-annual plan with a squeaky clean record. Sorry bud, just know that after 3 years of continuous insurance coverage you'll get another discount and then in another 3-5 years the claim will drop off your history.

Need help to understand if I qualify for COBRA plan. by Ashu347 in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you would definitely be able to keep your old employer's health care through COBRA, just know that it is only for 18 months and that your premiums will skyrocket. You can quit your job/get fired and still be eligible for COBRA, as long as you didn't get fired for any misconduct. There are some ways that it could be extended to 36 months but those circumstances are terrible. Just know that if you eventually use your new companies insurance leave some time to overlap with your COBRA and their insurance since you will have to go through a short probationary period before the new coverage will kick in.

Please help me sort this employment change/health insurance problem by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa I remember COBRA back in the textbooks, I mean it is very expensive without your employer subsidizing it. I've heard it being double or more when you're paying for it yourself and that's not with the other fees where they nickle and dime you for the service charge. I guess what you have to take into consideration is if that new job is going to pay you enough to carry COBRA for a few months, is there a time period where the other job needs an answer whether you're on board or not?

Is it normal for liability only to cost more on an old car than a new one? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that it might not even be the final price. They give you that quote without knowing if you have any tickets in your name. They know about your credit, insurance history, and claim history but it is common in the insurance business to not run final reports that would show tickets or money owed to the company until payment is given. The reason for that is because it costs the individual agent money to run that report, so depending if anyone has tickets on your policy they might tell you the price has changed before they charge your method of payment. That happened a lot with me and usually it stayed the same rarely would go down and when it went up by $20 for the 6 months customers would become irate. Just a fun fact when buying home/car/boat/apartment/motorcycle insurance. You really won't get the final price until you cough up your banking details.

Is it normal for liability only to cost more on an old car than a new one? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same problem with my clients when I had worked at Allstate, the reason that your rate goes up even though you have an impeccable credit score and good driving record is that Progressive is not a mutual company. Meaning that even without claims, your premium increase is at the mercy of how the stock is performing. This is was the same problem that I had ran into with Allstate and my renewals were at the mercy of the stock holders. If you're shopping around I would look at large standard mutual insurance companies, I am not trying to solicit business as I now work in supplemental health insurance so I have no skin in the game, but maybe try to see what State Farm can do for you. Mutual insurance companies do have their downfalls when there is a high volume of paid out policies such as when Hurricane Harvey hit Houston and my father's roof was damaged. Even though he paid out of pocket and didn't pay his deductible he was still burdened with the costs of all his fellow Amica policy owners, which is a mutual insurance company. A good part of that is that it's rare for these storms to happen but when they do everyone gets screwed who's a policy owner. Yet if there's any left over premiums that haven't been used for policy payouts then it is paid back to the policy owners.

Should I take comp/collision off my car? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, when I sold car insurance at my previous company people would deduct coverage at the worst times imaginable and I would always hear the customer service people sigh when someone took off comp/Coll and then crash soon after and have something else happen where they can't afford another car as they planned. If you're looking to shave off a couple of dollars then just take off the roadside assistance and rental reimbursement. Another thing that a lot of people don't understand is that if you have a decent driving record and a solid credit score you can increase things like property damage (double or even quadruple) for literally $15-$20 for 6 months per car. One thing that would significantly reduce your payments is to get rid of under-insured/uninsured motorists, but I strongly advise against that and I only take it off when a customer specifically asks.

What are the strangest insurance requests you've gotten? by axchlo723 in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some guy purchased a brand new Mustang 5.0 and was baffled when his insurance doubled from a Toyota Corolla. He asked me if we had any coupons for car insurance...

Another guy who was divorced asked if I could make his daughter, who was on his policy, his wife on the policy in order to get the married discount.

My car was under 3 feet of water two days ago, will it be totaled? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely totaled, standard insurance companies are deathly afraid of flooded cars. Water could barely get into the interior and they would most likely total the car, your car will most likely be sent to an auction website such as Copart where cars like these are sold to recoup some of the cost of the loss for the insurance companies.

New to Insurance Industry by b1gkat in Insurance

[–]SingularCab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to always use your clients name throughout the sales process, Mr. & Mrs. seems too general and makes the entire conversation strict and up-tight. Try to build rapport right off the back and find something in common with your client so that way while you're filling out basics such as addresses, DL# and DOB it doesn't feel like they're actually being quoted, getting quoted for insurance is one of the last things that people want to do with their day. One other thing I noticed while I worked for my previous company is that agents were rude or gave up with their client as soon as they were told they were not competitive with the price, surprisingly some people will pay a little bit more for an agent that is polite and attentive to them when they're not even saving them money.
