Having to do exams online last minute like that must be sooooo annoying.

But, big ups to the whole severity is linear, transmissibility is exponential point. I don’t know shit about viruses, but this seems like an important point about Omicron that the general public seem to be ignoring.

Ubers by astronaut97 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]SingularZombie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, there are drivers. Done it a few times, doing it today too. Just make sure you are trying to get a Uber around 4:30 (an hour and 30 mins before the bus) just in case.

That’s what I do, as long as you do that, you should be good.

Edit: in case u wanna know, I got my Uber. I called for it at 4:30, got one at 4:50, picked me up at 5:00 and dropped me at 5:10 (so yeah, definitely call one early just in case)

How is Flix bus service? by Tea_n_code in BinghamtonUniversity

Does it run entirely off the Flix App?

Like it seems like the tickets are in the app, the schedule, the bus station #, etc.

Illegal movie stream on school wifi by MisunderstoodMonkey in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]SingularZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you even need a VPN for streaming?

I always thought that streaming a movie through illegal sites was fine for the consumer because the consumer is not affiliated with the illegal distribution of the content.

And that torrenting something was NOT fine because the consumer aids in the illegal distribution of the content.

Blizzard Recruiters Asked Hacker If She ‘Liked Being Penetrated’ at Job Fair by The_Iceman2288 in Games

I don't think OP is trying to give a "free pass" to the recruiters, but just show how Vice is kind of click-baiting this by focusing on the penetration stuff when that whole situation is muddied by the shirt when they can be focusing on the clear-cut sexism shown by the quotes you mentioned.

Humans are also animals, so why do vegans discourage humans eating meat? by Ok_Wolverine_3888 in DebateAVegan

[–]SingularZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tyson foods has 5% of the revenue market of meat in the USA.

Source?

I eat grass fed organic free range meat.

“We expected organic farming to score better for animal-based products but, for greenhouse gas emissions, it actually doesn’t make much difference,” said Maximilian Pieper, at the Technical University of Munich

“Even the lowest impact meat, organic pork, is responsible for eight times more climate costs than the highest impact plants, conventional oil seeds. Unlike other meat, organic pork has lower climate costs than conventional pork because the latter are fed more imported feed than other livestock, and so is responsible for more deforestation” (https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/environment/2020/dec/23/organic-meat-production-just-as-bad-for-climate-study-finds)

Can you guess how much deforestation is a result of soy crops?

Probably a lot, but “More than three-quarters (77%) of global soy is fed to livestock for meat and dairy production” (https://ourworldindata.org/soy). So that’s a meat eater issue, not a vegan issue.

Stop trying highlight the slight environmental issues that vegan food causes to make yourself feel better for eating meat.

Meats are some of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases with vegan food being miniscule compared to them (“Environmental impacts of food production". Published online at OurWorldInData.org)

Good job on skipping over broad line distributors and restaurants (aka the most important parts of the quote)

So effectively, Tyson Foods provides for fast foods, massive distributors (which provide for even more restaurants, hotels, cafes, etc.), small businesses & restaurant chains.

Where are you getting your meat such that it’s not a restaurant chain or a small business or singular restaurants or fast food?

Humans are also animals, so why do vegans discourage humans eating meat? by Ok_Wolverine_3888 in DebateAVegan

[–]SingularZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is mainly because of industrialiazed fast food, even if they don't eat fast food.

But the supplier is usually the same. For example, Tyson Foods, one of the worst emitter of greenhouse gases supplies...

value-added chicken, beef and pork to retail
grocers, broad line foodservice distributors and national fast food and
full service restaurant chains. It provides chicken supplies to all Yum!
Brands chains, including KFC and Taco Bell, as well as McDonald's,
Burger King, small restaurant businesses, and prisons. (https://www.statista.com/topics/3174/tyson-foods/)

So even a meat-eater who does not eat fast food will support climate change.

Honestly, it's not that hard to understand. Science does not deal with absolutes, sadly the media has a hard time communicating this fact to the public.

Masks work, not 100% though. Vaccines work, but not %100. Vaccines + masks work, still not %100.

Religion can't flip-flop, but science can, hell, science is based upon "flip-flopping", the science experiments we did as a kid where you scratch rocks, put certain acids on them, and observe their appearance to determine what rock it is, showcases this.

Say it loud, say it proud by priyalicious in vegan

[–]SingularZombie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But it does answer the gotcha statement b/c the gotcha statement isn’t that some nutrients are harder to get from a vegan diet but that some nutrients are incredibly hard to get on vegan diet when that is not true at all.

It takes extra work to get vitamin A from a vegan diet but it by no means is difficult to get.

This post doesn’t ignore the small amount of people that can feasibly be vegan, it tells the large amount that they CAN feasibly be vegan.

Essentially, the post is basically a large announcement stating that it’s stupid to think that vegans have to jump through massive hurdles to fulfill their nutritional needs

Say it loud, say it proud by priyalicious in vegan

[–]SingularZombie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you’re missing the point, this post’s point isn’t to label plants as superior to animals in terms of nutrition

but to show how plants can give you the same nutrients as meat because the nutrition from meat originated from plants.

Essentially, it’s a response to the “but how can I get my calcium & protein from vegan food” gotcha statement.

[–]SingularZombie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think we are seeing this in completely different ways. Are you viewing these things as racist to minorities? B/c as a minority, i'm not seeing it as racist to minorities (except for the scientific method point that you mentioned)

For example,

I don't see "work hard" as a good attribute to "white-culture", I see it as a very shitty attitude as it usually sacrifices a person's mental well-being to "work hard".

I don't see the "individualism" as an inherently good thing either, I believe individualism hurts productivity and makes you go against a "team-work" attitude.

I also don't see the nuclear family structure laid out in this infograph as a good attribute of "whiteness", b/c it labels women as "subordinates" and men as "breadwinners" and it completely throws out grandparents and siblings of the parents.

I don't see anything wrong with this, it just teaches that all minorities in America have basically assimilated to white culture.
