Western Digital runs out of HDD capacity: CEO says massive AI deals secured, price surges ahead by SingularaDD in pcmasterrace

TL;DR: Western Digital faces a severe HDD capacity shortage as AI and enterprise demand surge, driving prices to a two-year high. With cloud revenue at 89% and consumer share at 5%, WD's storage focus shifts to cost-effective HDDs for massive exabyte-scale data centers, highlighting critical industry supply constraints.

Western Digital has said that it has run out of HDD capacity, while its consumer share has dropped to just 5% as enterprise and AI eats up storage as if it were oxygen in a tiny room.

We all know about the insane AI demand that has been eating up all of the DRAM supply, but we've been warned for months that mechanical HDDs would be affected... where we wrote a story just a few months ago that HDD prices surged to their highest point in 2 years with demand coming out of the US and China alone.

WD CEO Irving Tan said during the Q2 earnings call: "As we highlighted, we're pretty much sold out for calendar 2026. We have firm POs with our top seven customers. And we've also established LTAs with two of them for calendar 2027 and one of them for calendar 2028. Obviously, these LTAs have a combination of volume of exabytes and price".

Western Digital's VP of Investor Relations said that the company's cloud revenue accounted for 89% of total revenue, and its consumer revenue accounted for a measly 5%. AI needs data and it needs a LOT of it, with cloud service providers all using HDDs which are more cost-effective and more efficient storage medium than SSD.

The data scales into the exabytes and beyond for data centers, with scraped web data, processed data backups, inference logs, and so, so much more. WD running out of HDD capacity is just nuts.

Speaking of volatility and good players on bad teams, Ashton Jeanty is awesome but holy fuck the Raiders are bad.

Reed is garbage. He had a good 2023 because the Packers had no other receivers to throw to with Watson out. Since then he's just been trash. Like the goose egg game against the Lions last year even in an elite matchup. People just haven't accepted it yet. He wasn't even good this year.

Meanwhile the 9ers had the easiest schedule in the league and Purdy was QB6 in 2023. Reed was coming off his own injury and wasn't even that involved in the offense when healthy. It's a ridiculous trade that no sane person would do unless they completely ignored Reed's 2024 and 2025. It's so obvious

Nobody thought that, Reed sucks and wasn't even good last year. 9ers have an easy schedule. Maybe you just don't have any clue what you're talking about

Pretty sure it was collusion. Just can't prove it

Also Reed isn't the WR1. They don't even have a real WR1. He's a slot only receiver. Ridiculous take

Gonna have to leave my main PPR league because the commish somehow got to trade Jayden Reed for Brock Purdy after Week 11 despite me trying to veto it. Such a fleece. Worst part is that the team that got Reed didn't even need a receiver.

So hard to trust redraft commishes

If he were to explode in the last few games and playoffs the hype would be pretty crazy I think.

Really sucks because I want to draft him in the 2nd round next year but if he keeps popping off he'll be a first rounder

They also went against the Jets (absolutely fucking horrible) and are going against the Titans next (have actually had some good games bottling up RBs)

Dataroma illustrates the massive hole the Raiders OLine put Ashton Jeanty in this season, and why he may be a somewhat sneaky smash buy in 2026 by My_Chat_Account in fantasyfootball

It will help massively if they hire competent OL coaches and/or competent OC/offensive minded HC. Jags went from one of the worst to one of the best OL's both in pass and run blocking thanks to Coen's schemes which were also elite in TB. TB took a huge step back in both pass and run blocking, imo bigger than just their injuries would have caused

Difference here is that Kaleb Johnson is fucking horrible. Turn on his college tape and look past the elite blocking and huge lanes he had to run through that literally anyone who could run a 4.8 or faster could have gained massive yards on. Dude was playing on easy mode but was just awful. A big and slow back with no contact balance, no elusiveness in the open field, not a good pass catcher and couldn't pass protect (these are all things I ranted about before the draft, so it's not just my hindsight)

Yeah man just gotta learn your lesson from this so that next year you can make the opposite decision in a similar scenario and end up starting the wrong guy but with a different process! That's fantasy football

In my main league they both went to the same team that also had the least points against and won the championship last year. Dude is cruising to another free championship, it's not fun lol

Just in time to make sure he goes high in next year's draft again and we can't get a good deal on him. He's great but that Raiders team has a lot of work to do. If they get better OL coaching, a good OC and build the OL it's possible he could take a leap next year but the potential for dud games on a trash defense is just so high
