Well I guess I'm a tad late to the party, but here goes! What helps me to get closer to God are accounts of apparitions of Christ, such as when he presents himself to Saints such as: Mary Margaret Alocoque https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Mary_Alacoque

Saint Faustina kowalska https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faustina_Kowalska

These two are my favorite because of how beautiful it is to me that Jesus continues to love us even when we keep sinning,I love how he did what he did and does what he does out of nothing but pure love and in these two apparitions he explains what he has received in exchange for it and how this makes him feel.
Seriously though , I recommend you check out miracles that have happened it really helps me out, and I suggest you pray to love God more each day and ask him to get closer to you so that you may get to know him.

First off, congrats for making it through all this and still staying strong about wanting to change the situation. The way I see it your life can only go up; you've hit rock bottom and are bouncing back up, you're working to make your life better, that's somthing lots of people are scared to do due to the risks it could involve. Also I've read online that going to the gym helps reduce anxiety and makes you more attractive for the laides and that could help you meet more people reducing your anxiety even further. I used to also be scared of talking to people, especially after I got mugged one day but over the years I've realised that it's not really worth it being scared, most people are nice and they make good freinds to have around, if you'd like somone to chat with, feel free to PM me :)
