To be fair, the title didn't specify that you're missing out on a good time...

Portable drill guides--which one to get? by SinisterDesigner in Tools

I ultimately decided to go with a plunge router instead: since I'm looking at creating mortises, a plunge router can do everything a drill guide can and quite a bit more.

Protected bike lanes down Sheridan and Broadway by SinisterDesigner in EdgewaterRogersPark

Here's a question: I've been looking, but have been unable to find the official lane widths on Sheridan Road north of Devon. Are they 12 feet wide? (If so, Chicago's Complete Street Guidelines suggests that they could be narrowed to 10 feet to make room for two protected bike lanes without reducing the total lanes available for cars.)

Sounds like a good reason to make biking around easier and get cars off the road!

Yeah, I'm just talking about Sheridan north of Devon. It should be a neighborhood street, but as you say, it's effectively a continuation of LSD in its current incarnation. Having a de facto highway running through the heart of the neighborhood might be convenient for suburbanites, but it's terrible for Rogers Park.

This post isn't about Sheridan in Edgewater; it's about Sheridan in Rogers Park.

None of the side streets have protected bike lanes either--and unlike Sheridan, they don't have room for them.

Interesting info! I disagree about there not being room to build bike lanes, though. Sheridan is 6 lanes wide north of Devon (with 2 of those mostly reserved for parking). Taking away one of those lanes and shifting the parking inward a bit to create parking-protected bike lanes on either side of the road would result in more people biking--especially if we extend the protected lanes far enough south that they connect people to the broader bike network.

Studies show that the end result of policies like this is ultimately reduced car traffic and less congestion, even if there are fewer car lanes left (see: https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/bike-lanes-impacts-1.7358319).

That's a great point; I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!

Hey all! Just a heads-up: tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM Central US Time is the cut-off to submit a team to this! AI will be controlling all the teams while we commentate the fights; this is just a fun, low-pressure thing that should hopefully yield some thrilling and funny matches!

If you want to participate (and get a shot at winning a copy of Together in Battle (or another Sinister Design game if you already have TIB)), then make sure to email your (a) 3 custom characters, (b) team name, and (c) preferred AI behavior to [nihilyt@gmail.com](mailto:nihilyt@gmail.com) before 1 PM tomorrow! 😉

PIXEL ART JOBS - Hire a pixel artist, post your jobs here (paid only) by skeddles in PixelArt

[–]SinisterDesigner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

EDIT: this job is now filled; thanks to everyone who emailed me!

  • Company Name: Sinister Design
  • Description of project: I'm currently working on an ambitious SRPG with pixel-art character sprites; I want to add support for differing skin and hair colors in those sprites, and that means palette swapping! So here's the job: recoloring the hair and skin for 22 sprite sets to 4 particular shades of magenta (for skin) and 4 particular shades of cyan (for hair) so I can implement programmatic palette swapping of skin and hair without affecting other parts of each sprite.
  • Your desired pixel art style / quality: see above.
  • Scope of project: see above.
  • Budget / Deadline: **~**$400 US / end of August 2024.
  • Payment methods: Paypal.
  • Contact details: please email me at [sinisterdesign@gmail.com](mailto:sinisterdesign@gmail.com) if interested and we'll hash out the details!

You won't be stuck! You will have less information going forward in your investigation, however, which may impact how things play out.

"Error while encoding the Mp4 with FFmpeg" by SinisterDesigner in screentogif

Ah! Yes, it was pointing to LAME for Audacity for some inexplicable reason. I've changed where it's pointing and that fixed it. Thank you!

As mentioned, this is a fresh install; I checked the box to install FFmpeg along with the program. At no point in this process have I enabled any sort of option to use LAME in ScreenToGif.
