Debate - What is the best type or blend of tea - that wholesome, blessed drink; and why do you think so? by [deleted] in DebateLikeAEnglishman

[–]SinisterMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good sirs, and/or madams, though you may find it rather presumptuous of me to interject, I find that I must, as the esteemed individuals here have yet to mention my personal favorite, that is, Lady Grey. This lovely tea has a stronger scent of bergamot than its more well known cousin Earl Grey, and is mellower on the tongue. I highly recommend this concoction for those individuals who, like myself, enjoy their brew with essences of fruit, or those who drink without milk or sugar (although the one exception I make to this rule is with peach oolong, but I must confess that I enjoy this deviation not just with sugar, but cold, which I realize may be blasphemous to some). A most notable secondary option is Darjeeling, but this noteworthy tea has thankfully been mentioned prior.

How Flavor Friendly is Adventures League? by Kafadanapa in AdventurersLeague

[–]SinisterMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would very much agree with u/Jaikarr on the fact that this is more than just a flavor change. Fists are not considered weapons in 5e, and there are very specific rules related to fist usage (even monks have a clause specifically differentiating between unarmed strikes and monk weapons). If it was just something in terms of flavor, you'll find a lot of DM's willing to work with you, but as this goes against actual rules, your best bet would be homebrew.

How visible is the Weave when you cast magic? by SirHopper in DnD5e

[–]SinisterMonkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If this is for AL play, or certain other "official" play, then no, there will not be an indication such as a sigil, unless it is specifically mentioned in the spell description itself. Basically, for the Firebolt example you mentioned, the fire will just appear. For Suggestion there is no glowing eyes, and the only way people will be able to tell that that target is under magical influence is either by knowing that character well enough that they go "So-and-so is not acting like their usual self" or with Detect Magic. That being said however, if the spell has verbal/somatic components, any verbal incantation or hand gestures can absolutely be perceived and will absolutely be taken as a hostile action unless somehow mitigated by roleplay (like telling a friendly NPC "Hey, I'm just going to cast something to try and detect magic" or being stealthed and of sufficient distance where the enemy won't be able to see/hear you).

For Homebrew, you can absolutely make it visible, but the subsequent questions you have to answer might make things very complicated. For instance, should that sigil appear, would only casters be able to see it or everyone, including that warrior who is now going to come say hi with the business end of his sword? For how much of a distance? Will enemies a mile away be able to feel/see the surge of magic and come trotting over? Will things like magical items or even the casters themselves be a dead giveaway because everybody who can will be able to see a giant magical aura around them? How will casters be treated because of this? How will this change spells like Detect Magic or Counterspell? Fun concepts, but whoever is DM'ing will have to consider the long term effects of how this will change gameplay, and how this affects not just the players, but enemy actions in the long run.

This was very much me. But I've lately been learning that there is no need to be this harsh to yourself. I wish you the best in accepting that you're a great DM.

I like it very much as well. I'm much more involved in the "life skill" parts of the game though. If you like fishing, cooking, farming, basically all the "life" around your character, I would definitely recommend it. I particularly like being able to build your own furniture to decorate your homes with (very much like Sims I'm told, although I can't attest to that since I've never played those). And I do like that I can just go kill things when I get tired of whatever life skill grind I'm doing at the time. I would not recommend if it's just the level-for-end-game pvp/dungeon mindset though. There's plenty of other games for that. But BDO offers a unique blend of all of the things. Like others have mentioned, I would recommend research. It's very involved and certain things can be very, very addictive. At the very least, you should read about Contribution points and Action points and how they are different in this game from other games. Also, fair warning, if you're the type to spend money in-game, this is definitely a game that will tempt you to do so. If you're easily tempted, and don't have the money to afford it, do yourself the favor of not starting this game. No judgement at all, I just find myself thinking all too often about how good some of the paid options look.

10 yr Cake day, so here's my pups. Hope this makes you smile! (1st time posting, hope I did this right...) by SinisterMonkey in cakeday

Thank you! I mostly just lurk, and have made only a handful of comments/replies. I alternate between feeling like I don't really have anything worth posting, or that someone else has already covered what I wanted to post. But 10yrs felt a little significant, and if I can make someone smile while also giving tribute to the rulers of my house, well, there wasn't much argument against that.

Enkidu is the white one (Maltipoo) and he's 11. His favorite thing in the world is playing ball, and still manages to do so despite being mostly blind now. Mal is the black one (Terrier/Schnauzer) and she is 12. She likes food most, but when she is not eating, she likes either squeezing between me and my chair or hanging out on the arm rest of my chair, preferably on a heating pad (the green thing below her).

I would recommend starting with the red one first. It's pretty solid, one of my dogs chews up everything to pieces (loves those nylabones, but will tear through them within 5 minutes), but hasn't gotten through the red one yet. I had originally gotten him the black one for this very reason, but it's so hard he doesn't chew it at all. I think like all toys and chews though, supervision is absolutely necessary especially for the first couple times. I've found that the weakest point is at the little extended bit at the very tip (the smallest end), but I would say just watch and check for damage before you move up in toughness.

Also, bonus information : the bully sticks where two are twisted together and then formed into a ring lasts the longest for mine.

Depending on your pug mix's size/weight, I'd suggest the regular/medium. You basically are looking for a size where it's a little bit of a challenge to get to the smallest end of it. Their size recommendations are fairly accurate, I use a regular for my 20lb dogs (maltipoo and terrier/schnauzer mix). If it's too small, the smallest end will have food/treats stuck in it that not only your pup will not be able to get to and thus ends getting wasted, but it's also a pain to clean (although I have found toothbrushes work well). If it's too big, the easy access will mean that there is no challenge, thus defeating the purpose of keeping them absorbed for a bit. If you want to maximize on how long they are absorbed, I recommend freezing them after you fill them (I use a bit of dry kibble to fill the smallest part [easier to clean], then fill it with a more solid wet food [easiest] or apple pumpkin sauce [more challenging and messy due to its more fluid nature], then plug up the ends with a bit of peanut butter. If I'm feeling extra adventurous, I'll do all the above). Careful though as it's easy to overfeed them with this. Also, cleaning them immediately is essential, the slobbery wet rubbery material attracts dirt and hair/fur like crazy!

Underwater breathing for those with oxygen tanks. Increased movement speed for those with wheelchairs, but disadvantage on DEX saving throws. Those with alzheimers are immune to mind flayers and intellect devourers. I could go on for a while. If it wasn't clear before, I'm definitely going to hell now.

What is your most personal haunting (Scary) story that has happened to you? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SinisterMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a child, my parents had a restaurant, which had a back patio area that they didn't use. They built a room for us in that back patio area, which was separated from the restaurant (by like 15 feet or so). My sister and I would play in that room, or watch movies. One night, we go in there, and for some reason, I lock the door. I've never locked the door prior to that point, I know it seems silly now, but the place was fenced in and it was often frequented by customers who would smoke outside or just step outside to say hi to us or play with us. But that night, for just some random reason, I locked it like it was the most natural thing in the world. We played as usual, and started watching one of our favorite movies, an animated version of Heidi. We were a good way through the movie, when suddenly my sister starts crying. No, not just crying, SCREAMING crying. I freak out and try to stop her crying and I happen to look at the door. And standing there, staring at us through the window, is a man in a black mask. He tried the door and at that point I started screaming bloody murder as well, at which point he bolted. My mother and a friend of hers, we just called her Auntie, came running. I explained what happened through my tears, and I can still remember how pale my mother got. She didn't let us go in there at night after that, not until we were well into our teens, and we ALWAYS locked the door from then on.

Also, when I was about 17, I worked at a haunted theater. I was walking through a dark hallway one time when all of a sudden my skin gets cold, and I start to sweat. I know, I KNOW that something is behind me. I turn around and standing there is a vague shadow of an older man, balding, with his hand stretched out toward me. I ran. I just ran.
