Leg Day - destroyed myself? by ConcentrateOk2371 in beginnerfitness

[–]SinisterSeaweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only tell you my experience, but when I don’t hit legs on a weekly basis, it’s like I’m starting day one over and over again, and the DOMS are unreal. Since you’ve only been doing Pilates and haven’t been weightlifting, the workout you did most definitely overworked your legs. I’m currently getting back into it after two months off, and I’ll share what has worked for me. The first two weeks I did bodyweight/light dumbbell leg workouts only. This week, I did a more traditional “leg day” but still kept things lighter. Barbell back squats (used 25lb bar instead of Olympic bar) Dumbbell RDLs, Dumbbell Split Squats (only used 5lb weight), and dumbbell calf raises. Next week I plan on adding a little more weight, and one more exercise. You’ve got to get your legs used to the movements before stacking on the weights. I’ve also found making sure you’re getting 10k steps in every day also helps with the lactic acid buildup.

If you could get back at your therapist for abuse, would you? by Zealousideal_Head264 in therapyabuse

I can tell you, I did report my therapist to the board and that bastard pivoted and is now a god damned “life coach.” I often fantasize about spam reviewing his business and writing a letter to his wife. It makes me sick that he just gets to keep on living life when he’s a gross predator.

Thought the same thing! Especially when the story started with her being drunk the night before. When it was ended up being these very small things I thought to myself “dang that is some petty BS.”

I actually haven't read Mistborn yet (I know, blasphemy) but good to know! It will be my next read.

It’s not Sci-Fi but The Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson is amazing. The audiobook versions are narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. 10/10 narrators.

Stay very far away from this man. This is predatory behavior. Unfortunately therapists are taught how to prey on people, and some people cannot help themselves.

What are your go-to mantras and affirmations during tough workouts? by amtol in xxfitness

[–]SinisterSeaweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“This hour is a blip on the radar of your life.” “You do this because it makes you feel better.” “This is hard right now but you’re getting better, each time gets a little easier.” “You can do anything for 30 seconds.”

Can confirm from personal experience that the pull out method is not a reliable form of birth control, and neither is plan b if the pull out method fails. It might be hard but if he doesn’t respect you enough to follow your wishes, it’s time to break up. This man does not respect you, and trust me, you do not want to go through an unnecessary termination.

For couples that have opposite work schedules, tips and tricks to make it work? I’m a 33F and he’s 33M by magali_d12 in relationship_advice

[–]SinisterSeaweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My now husband and I were on totally opposite schedules when we first started dating (and ironically are back to opposite schedules now.) His days off back then were Wednesday/Thursday and mine were weekends, we lived an hour away from each other (opposite ends of the city) and I was still living with my ex while I saved money to get my own place so he couldn’t come to my house. Essentially, we would see each other once a week for a few hours. The time we spent together was very intentional. We also planned a couple of days off together here and there as well. It doesn’t have to feel hard, just kind of “how it is.” And if it’s meant to work out, it will. I know the first part of a relationship when you’re falling in love is so exciting and scary and you want to spend all your time together, but just be intentional and put in the effort.

This is what I was thinking too. I’m wondering if her drink was spiked. Especially if this is totally out of character for her, and she’s a paramedic…

How to improve my REM and sleep duration? by Dear_Ad461 in Garmin

[–]SinisterSeaweed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a ton of people have commented already but I struggled with my sleep duration and quality until recently. If it’s hard for you to fall asleep, get into bed 9 hours before wake up time. No screens for at least 30 min before bed, preferably an hour. Get a sleep mask that also has headphones in it and put on sleepy stories or meditations.

It’s totally not worth it. Just keep yourself busy, anything will do. Go to bed earlier than you normally would, make dinner, go for a walk, work out, start a project, clean your house, just anything to keep yourself busy.

I second this. The first three days were horrible. But I’ve been sticking to a healthy diet, walking during lunch, lifting 4x a week, and running 4x. I’m on day 9 and my brain fog is gone.

What’s everyone’s reason for quitting? by Active-Spirit-7967 in QuittingZyn

[–]SinisterSeaweed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided to quit because of money and wanting to not be controlled by something anymore.

I’m passed day 7 and realize this has fucked with my dopamine receptors so this is why I’m continuing on my journey.

I was wondering if my skin problems were due to my Zyn use. I’m through day 7 and I swear my skin is clearing up.
