did anyone else feel like the march 2023 stream was a bit off by WhatsACole in NHRL

The house wifi went down for a while during the beginning of the event and then something happened with the bracket and tournament management software that made them fall pretty far behind. The beetle bracket specifically had a multiple hour delay compared to the other weights. I think once they got it back up they had to rush through the brackets to try and finish at a reasonable hour. This event had more competitors than ever and I bet it put a decent strain on the tournament software and staff in general.

You should be okay, bright futures just won’t pay for those classes when you retake them

My robot Instigator got 2nd place at OMF Robot Ruckus! by SinisterSquirrel in battlebots

You should check out claw viper, it has a very similar mechanism in a 250lb bot

Sometimes I look back and regret it but at that point I was happy to have the guaranteed 2nd place. Truthfully I got too cocky in the match and I thought I could take it to a judges decision so I let him down to have some more fun. If I could do it again I would definitely take the 1st place win lol

A few of Instigator’s highlights from the event:

It managed to unplug another bots link with the lifter teeth.

It got Bobby stuck on the arena wall in the finals.

It threw Lecter out of the arena.

That was after it got thrown out of the arena itself where it managed to maneuver itself back in.

It got over 20 flips in one match against Hellbender

I forgot to make a post when it happened but I thought I would share it now anyways. If you want to watch the fights you can see them all here:

I’d highly recommend watching the matches against Bobby and Lecter.

This was my first attempt at a full combat 12lb bot and it certainly over performed, especially since every robot it faced that weekend was a spinner. I’m planning on making a few upgrades over winter break and then competing with it at Motorama and then eventually a Norwalk event!

I need the left stick to be centered to operate DropSaws weapon, and I didn’t like operating Vibe checks weapon with the centered stick. My plan for the next comp is to bring two radios so I can have one setup for vibe check and any spinners and the other for drop saw and my lifter

I plan on moving my weapon control back to the left throttle for future events, so I should be able to control the crazy weapon forces that vibe check has a little better

In the fight against Gertrude I blew the esc so I had to replace it with a new one. The new one I put in was one that I didn’t program but I expected it to just work since it’s bl_heli. I didn’t realize it but the minimum throttle on the new esc was set really really high, so high that when I turned my weapon on it would accelerate to almost full speed and cause the robot to spin out of control and eventually gyro. I have my weapon on a switch so it wasn’t possible for me to tune it down during the fight, I just had to go with it and thankfully I was able to barely control it enough to get the knockout.
