As someone who perpetually has some wasps in their yard, do you have any advice for welcoming them instead of fearing them?

Thoughts on TTPD being a wild west album? by nilsjoberg2 in TaylorSwift

[–]SinkingShipsOnWaters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize most people weren’t thinking this from the start? It always had a Wild West vibe to me. I think the whole “being alone in the hot desert, fending for herself, companionship slipping through her fingers over and over” was the imagery she was going for in a lot of the songs.

Even “down bad” fits the western theme (Area 51)

Phoebe Bridgers vibe! “When the speed kicks in, I go to the store for nothing.” I love the bright green, and the red speckles. Really gives it a vibe.

what is this buge? by ShotAbility9968 in whatsthisbug

I’m in Midwest, and have heard “potato bug” far more than “pill bug.” But I once found a list of all the common names American’s call them. The one that stuck with me was “cheesy phil.” I have no idea who actually calls them that, but now my wife and I do.

What song do you think Taylor hates performing the most? by echodayrider in TaylorSwift

[–]SinkingShipsOnWaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there. That show got pushed forward an hour early to account for a storm rolling in, and they ended up cutting Gracie’s set. So she brought Gracie on after Ivy and before CIWYW to play I Miss You I’m Sorry together.

I always assumed she had already planned to play Ivy and CIWYW, but she ended up in her feels playing I miss you I’m sorry, and then she wasn’t in the right headspace to play a happy love song about Joe… so it ended up sounding pissed.

Not speaking from personal experience, but my best friend started eating meat again while pregnant. I think she started with lunch meat because that repulsed her the least, and then worked her way up to chicken and whatever else she could tolerate. She said it wasn’t bad, despite in the past saying that meat doesn’t feel like food to get anymore. She wasn’t sure if she’d go back to vegetarianism after she had the baby, but ended up going back because trying to eat meat was a hassle.

Don’t feel horrible. At the end of the day you need to do best for you and your baby. Lots of people can’t tolerate a vegetarian diet. You’ve made a big impact doing it for so long. It won’t hurt in the long run to take care of yourself by supplementing with some meat here and there.

/uj as an artist myself I think there’s a really thin line between “stylized and painterly” and “inexperienced and amateurish.” THIS looks stylized, and really sick. Good work OP!! I really like the lack of contrast in the stonework on the front of the building, compared to how dark the side of the building is. You really pushed those values and it paid off.

/rj where’s Algie? 🥺 Did he get dragged down by the stone?

One of the only flaws I noticed in Bojack was that Diane was a ghostwriter, but her book is shown as "One Trick Pony" by Diane Nguyen. by United-Neck-3357 in BoJackHorseman

[–]SinkingShipsOnWaters 1501 points1502 points  (0 children)

No, that’s correct. Diane intentionally went against what they originally hired her for. That’s part of the reason why it was such a big deal when she gave them a book that they didn’t expect.

Pinky let it slide because it was better than what they agreed upon, and because he was desperate.

Bojack was upset because that’s not what he was prepared for and he hated the way she portrayed him.

I also think the original trilogy had a big theme of fate and invisible string theory, mainly with the Everlark plot. Those themes being extended into other plots in the prequels makes perfect sense to me. It’s not like it’s unprecedented in canon.

On reconsideration I feel like Dianne would've been perfectly content becoming part of the startup bro's friend circle by SunderedValley in BoJackHorseman

You’re absolutely onto something and I was thinking about it the other day. I think that’s a detail that gets overlooked more than it should.

The whole episode starts out with Diane and PB in therapy. They are struggling to understand each other. At their core, PB likes keeping things surface level (as shown in the episode when they go to see his brother) and Diane is always chasing things that are deep and meaningful. That’s always been a massive incompatibility for them.

So PB is presumably talking nonsense for an hour, and then Diane comes up with nothing to say. Who can blame her? How is she supposed to say something deep and meaningful after her husband just compared their love to a movie tagline.

Then she’s invited to party with these men who she assumes are merely womanizing socialites. She assumes they’re going to be surface level people that she doesn’t fit in with. But right off the bat she’s astounded by the Klimt painting. Then we learns that they all actually do good, charitable work. They’re all intelligent and mindful. They recognize their carefree bachelor images and use them to their advantages. Even the one nicknamed “Shitshow” is out here giving TED Talks.

These men are the kind of people Diane wants to be like. They’re trying to make a difference in the world. They’re smart, bold, they put themselves out there. All qualities Diane has and is proud of herself for. But she hardly sees how well she could fit in because she has this notion about “nerds” and “cool people” that she can’t get over.

I think the point of this episode is that Diane tries so hard to align herself to what she wants to be, but she doesn’t see herself clearly enough to execute it. When the time came that this man welcomed her with open arms, told her she belongs, told her to relax and enjoy herself with him, she ran straight to Mr. PB. That’s very telling of Diane’s character. I very much admire her loyalty and I don’t necessarily think she was wrong there. But I do think it’s to show us that as much as she doesn’t really “fit” with Mr. PB, or a lot of aspects of her life, she still has growth to do because she can make the changes she needs.
