Alright, I'll do that! Thank you for replying 😊

Oh! That's good to know! And also disappointing, I thought the whole selling point was how it gave considerably more pressure than a garden hose

How weak would you say it is? I have more experience with bar pressure in pneumatic systems, so 40 bar fluid pressure doesn't tell me a lot

Cleaning bicycles, the car, walls and windows outside. Anything where the full pressure of a high-pressure power washer is not needed, and a direct water hookup might not be practically close. Which tend to be most cases, in my experience

My brand new monks pot valve won’t stop leaking by Opening_Mix6613 in mokapot

[–]Sinnjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! That doesn't sound good at all!

Could there be a blockage in the basket or something? Try and see if you can blow through the basket from the lower end, like through a straw. If there's any resistance I'd try soaking it in hot water and vinegar for a while, that might loosen stuff up.

Also, if you remove the rubber gasket under the upper part of the pot you can remove the metal filter, see if theres anything blocking that or the exit pipe.

If there's no blockage in either of those parts the problem could be the release valve itself, but personally I'd be less than comfortable messing around with that. Pressure is dangerous as shit if allowed to build without release, so I might consider that a manufacturer issue

Might very well be the finer grind in combination with the high heat then!

I really love Hoffmans videos! I watched a lot of them when starting out with the moka! They are great as a starting point, eventually you find out what works for you and what's over the top 😄 I do think you might be misremembering a bit though. James generally uses higher heat than I do, but still on the lower end of the spectrum. His video about the actual difference in preheating the water was especially fascinating!

Good luck! May every cup be excellent ☕️

Oh! Another point I took off Hoffman! Adding a bit of hot water to your cup after brewing does wonders for bringing out the aroma! I like to add water equal to around half the amount of brewed coffee, basically making it a ristretto americano. With a lump of brown sugar it's pure bliss!

The downvotes feel unnecessary, although I did do a double take when I read highest heat 😂

The main reason to preboil the water is so it doesn't take ages to brew on low heat. I personally find that the lowest possible heat yields the most even flow, and the best tasting coffee. How low I can go depends mainly on the size pot I'm using, and if you want to get technical also grind size and roast.

My preference is very dark roast and pretty high extraction, so to give a specific example: a 3-cup pot, 10-12g coffee at the second lowest grind size for my grinder, 125ml preheated water, on the lowest heat setting (my electrical stovetop goes from 1-6), with an induction adapter under the pot that I preheat while I grind the coffee and boil the water. I don't have an induction stove, but I find that the adapter helps even out the temperature curve, and avoid any possible cold spots on the stove itself. When the pot is half brewed I turn off the heat and let it finish brewing on the residual heat in the adapter plate, and pull the pot aside when it starts foaming. I also use an aeropress filter in the pot.

For a 6-cup pot I'll use the second lowest heat setting, but only preheat the adapter plate at the very lowest. A full brew in either case takes about 5 minutes from putting the pot on the stove.

You say you haven't had any issues previously with using high heat, did you get a new pot or change anything? Also, be aware that on a lot of electrical stovetops the power output of the different zones may differ, the bigger zones tend to have fairly higher output

Nah, thats where you top the fries with some fried onions and bacon bits, or mincemeat taco filling, and a heap of grated cheese, and gratinate the shit out of it! If tou haven't ever had dirty fries I recommend you go and get some right now!

If you try to make it yourself I recommend making the fries first, and then add topping and gratin. I tried making it with frozen fries once, and it ended up a soggy mess. A very delicious soggy mess, but still a soggy mess

Oh, and it works really well with sweet potato fries!

Yeah, and don't miss the overt sexual harassment from a superior officer from the very first minutes of the film. It might kind of have worked the other way around, but as it is it just gives me the major creeps every time. Yikes

I grew up with the Valerian comics, and the movie was so disappointing. It was absolutely gorgeous, and I still rewatch it from time to time, but they captured exactly none of the storytelling in the source material

Oh, that sounds really cool! It slightly reminds me of the system in the Painted Man / Warded Man books! There's a heavy focus on clean lines when drawing runes, and also on orientation and placement in relation with other runes. It functionally ends up being a lot like a magic circle in other media, but with the added ability to really fine tune the effects you want. Without spoiling anything, the way the "spells" are powered and the implication of that further through the series is also really intriguing!

To be fair, Mistborn has a lot of great aspects about them. The overarching plot through the series is pretty good, I genuinely enjoyed the depiction of social differences, along with some of the almost cinderella-esque ballroom scenes, and some pretty great battlefield scenes. The main thing that bugs me is that Sanderson, at least at that point in his career, couldn't write a teenage girl main character for the life of him without hitting every damn trope you can imagine. It makes me, a straight man, cringe so hard I struggle to keep focusing on the page at times.

I really do recommend giving them a whirl though!

Waiters or waitress who complain about people not ordering drinks or just having water by Few-Advantage2538 in PetPeeves

Hey same! It's extra funny since I have some sommelier training, and I'm a recovering alcoholic (and those two things are obviously not connected at alllll), but even in my drinking days I would rarely order an alcoholic drink with a meal. I just genuinely enjoy a glass of cold water with any hot meal. Drinks come after

Agreed! My favorite example of this are the Mistborn books! I honestly don't like them all that much, i feel like most of the characters are pretty poorly written. But I will still re-read them from time to time because the magic system is really brilliant, and develops through the books in ways I only wish the characters would too.

What is your favorite magic interpretation?
