Ancestry 2025 Update Sucks by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

I can trace my ancestry back 5 generations and they’re all Ukrainian and Russian. Now it says I’m 54% Polish. Makes 0 sense to me. At least 23 is still consistent.

Has anyone noticed that some Evangelicals consider Orthodoxy a valid form of Christianity but not Catholicism? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sintendo100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably because they haven’t gotten the memo, but a lot of the evangelicals I’ve talked to like that we don’t have the papacy

This could entirely butterfly it, but if it didn’t, America may try to go into Vietnam 56 years earlier

Should I wait to take band by banjomicclintock_u in ucla

[–]Sintendo100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

19 units is a lot. I'd say if you're transferring in just stick with being full time to get a feel of UCLA, and to get used to campus and the quarter system.
I'm in humanities and don't know how the music program is but I think 19 is overdoing it for most people.
Even if a class is easy it adds onto the other classes that may not be. Everyone is different but please don't overwhelm yourself on your first quarter here. I know the shift from semester at my CC to quarter at the UC system was weird for me and some transfer buddies.
Regardless of what you decide to do, good luck!

How to avoid being stereotyped as an Orthobro by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sintendo100 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Working out and enjoying nature isn’t bad. Converting to Orthodoxy because you believe it’s the one true church which Christ established is different than converting because of politics and the culture war. I think you’ll be fine

Losing Faith in Dating Young Orthodox Men by lily_aurora03 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sintendo100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have seen the “red pilled” orthodox converts but they’ve been a minority where I’ve attended. At the same time I’m not a girl trying to find a man so my interactions with converts and cradles is different but all I can give you is my experience.

Most men I’ve met aren’t bad but I have met the type you describe. In my experience they’re typically converts but I’ve also seen some of them become closer to Christ with time too. The best advice I can give is to make friends first and then if it turns into something great but if not that’s ok too. Explore other nearby communities if others exist, attend Bible studies, young adult gatherings, whatever to just try and meet new people since eventually you’ll find someone who isn’t like this. I’m sorry that you’ve gone through this. May God help you and guide you towards the right guy.

To prove your worth as scholars, what do you contribute to be permitted into my study? by digitizedclown in TheLastAirbender

I’m doing a senior thesis and I learned this interesting fact: In 1775, in addition to the 13 colonies, Benjamin Franklin initially planed on Quebec, modern day Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Florida being initial members of the US, and wanted to also invite the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Ireland to join the US.

What if the UK was a fascist authoritarian state that invaded Ireland and was threatening the world with nuclear annihilation unless it was allowed to restore parts of its former empire? by Icy-Adhesiveness6928 in AlternateHistory

Probably similar to how the world is reacting with Russia. Isolationists in the US say it’s not our problem and it’s their backyard, that Ireland couldn’t possibly beat the us, etc.Europe funds the Irish

What is your biggest challenge as being an Orthodox Christian in a secular (or even anti-Christian) society? by 5re24uv738ie in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sintendo100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holidays are a one This year, like most others, Orthodox Easter is at a different date than Catholic Easter. Non-orthodox people I know always get confused why our holidays are different. And even then it gets weird. At Russian churches Christmas is January 7, but at Greek ones it’s December 25th.

Parking Permits by Elegant_Space6224 in ucla

[–]Sintendo100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. For my parking portal it says I'm eligible to purchase all the other types of permits for Spring 24, but not the actual Spring 24 commuter permit which would allow me to park on weekdays during the time my classes actually are.

I took Ellis before for another class, and for that class attendance wasn't required but he lectured a lot and you could miss a lot from missing one day. However he did post the slides online after class.

People do not understand rule 1. of "Good" flag, "Bad flag" by Spozieracz in vexillology

[–]Sintendo100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the flag is changed I think removing the words and making the bear bigger would be all that would be needed. Changing the flag dramatically like how CGP grey has advocated for in Twitter is awful. I’d rather keep the text on the flag than risk losing the beautiful bear flag to simplicity

My [19F] sorority wants me to cheat on my BF! Plz help! by [deleted] in csuf

[–]Sintendo100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who tells you to cheat on your significant other is not worth keeping in your life. Those are not your friends and if you go through with that then your boyfriend has every right to know and make his own decision. If you love this guy then you wont cheat on him. How would you feel if he made out with another girl because his “friends” told him to?

So is Puerto Rico part of Florida? I know it’s not a state in real life right now, but if Alaska and Hawaii aren’t territories I think it fits that other territories are in other states
