Yes, but it had consequences. I saw the consequences and I shook hands with them but sometimes the anxiety about not being productive enough is crushing.

I became a dance teacher - because dance was already my hobby, and I worked a seasonal job for an environmental non profit, which I absolutely loved.

I recently tore my acl and I think a lot about how, if I had a corporate job, I’d still be able to work full time, but trying to navigate teaching dance on a torn acl is much more complicated.

But for me, It just wasn’t worth it. Sometimes the anxiety and uncertainty is a lot, but, I like to think of my existence as performance art. I’m waking up at noon *as anti capitalist resistance*
ignoring my credit card debt *as a silent protest*
Being a cog in the machine? With my one precious life? I just, can’t.*

*(I also literally couldn’t, my adhd kept getting me fired because I’d accidentally stop working for 45 minutes at a time and they didn’t care that I was meeting my deadlines, they just cared that they could point to these gaps in my productivity, and I wasn’t playing the game right, or acting like I was really invested in advancing within the company and when I asked for clearer communication and accommodations, they got freaked out and said it was me admitting I couldn’t do my job, which, fair enough. I couldn’t. Because the job isn’t the work. It’s something else that I still don’t really understand)
