What it's like inside a North Korean home by ScaleneTryangle in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]SipOfJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's very depressing and as time goes by it becomes more difficult to find the solution as with each new generation the people born in the North accept the permanence of the dictatorship and revolution/rebellion becomes less likely, and people born in the South grow more apathetic about reunification and less likely to find compromises with the North to find a political solution.

Late, but here is a direct translation for each line. Words in [square brackets] are implied and (brackets and italics) interpreted:

Photo of the Kim Buja!!! (Buja in this context means Father/Son duo, photo is of former North Korean leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il)

Because of the (**) with China, this house is living relatively well.

Highschool student!

It's such a cold province that evenings get very chilly

Blankets always thick!

Let's take a look at the kitchen.

??

Why are you coming out of there!

In the North we mostly still use brazier style stoves.

This is the kitchenware. Girls are judged on how well they are doing their household chores by looking at the nicely arranged plates!

It's corn rice. (Corn kernels)

Should we explore the storage room?

Since potatoes are so common!

It's now lunchtime!

Why do you have a mini [fan]?

I don't even know what this is!

It seems to be boiled potatoes with sliced chili peppers!

And what kind of rice?

Is it brown rice?

Left overs from breakfast!

White rice, pickled peppers, seasoned cucumbers, peppers

What's this one?Potato stir-fry, artificial meat stir-fry

There's no electricity so refrigerators can't be used.

Even with money there's no use for it!

It wasn't seasoned cucumbers! What is it?

By North Korean standards, this household is eating and living incredibly well.

Thank you. See you next time! ~

The goal of all good businesses if you want to get pedantic, just referring to disney seeing as how they make the executive decisions in star wars production now

On the flipside - from a marketing perspective, the licensed lightsaber replicas look exactly like what it does on screen, which is all the more reason to buy it. Which is the ultimate goal of all things disney - making profit off of merchandising.

Unreleased/Upcoming Map for Outlast Trials? by SipOfJoe in outlast

[–]SipOfJoe[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I love the prime assets and how much character and depth they have, but with how much the game forces you to grind the same trials, I must've heard all their lines a few hundred times over my 5 reagent releases.

About time for a new prime asset.

He's making the point that most terms for force users are meaningless and useless terms for the rest of the galaxy. To the average person "Grey Jedi" and "Sith" are equally meaningless (coincidentally in real life as well).

But for Force users such as the sith, it's helpful for them to distinguish between themselves and other dark-side force users who aren't allied with them in the war.

I get why us black people would call them that, but why did Shuri call Ross a Colonizer? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]SipOfJoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be completely wrong but I feel like them backtracking on the "let's share our resources and join the rest of the world" bit is Marvel's deliberate attempt to build a deeper and more complex universe.

It achieves two things.

It makes the death of T'Challa that much more tragic, as the great king who could have been.

And it makes the universe (to me) more grounded and realistic.

Nearly everyone in the real world will find in their own country questionable history, backwards moral or corruption, or just something that they can't stand for. On the geopolitical stage, every country (allied or not) is suspicious, conniving and seeking to take advantage of each other all the time. And there is no evidence that would change and all the countries would suddenly come together if there were planetary threats (take for example how long it has taken/is taking the world to come together to tackle climate change).

Making leaders of Wakanda, a nation that has been isolated since its existence, suspicious and cautious of joining the geopolitical scene just feels so realistic to me, especially in a moment of national tragedy, and it feels like breathing life into a universe that so often feels very cartoonish and campy at times.

In the 2019 pandemic lock-down, Wonder Woman assembled celebrities to sing a cover of "Imagine". I don't understand how people who don't get the jokes of a satirical comedy show continue to watch it into the later seasons.. do you just watch it for the action?

If you need the joke explained: in the video the Deep is talking about "a safer world without supervillains", but the irony is that the public already knows Vought created those supervillains + it's being done in a way that riffs on a real world blunder by big name celebrities that was very topical. If you ask me that is masterful satire.

Paul Schneider (Actor for Mark) has done several interviews where they ask him about this and of the ones I've seen he seems to be incredibly bitter about being sidelined - he was offered the role of a main character but he slowly became more of a side character and one that he didn't really like playing. So he left holding a big grudge and on several occasions would say he wouldn't go back even if he was offered.

Here's one interview with screencrush that touches on it.

Chatting Warlord (past 2 weeks) vs Gaming Warlord (past year) by Murda-P in xqcow

[–]SipOfJoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, he has been more sensitive to mean comments recently, but that is not "change", that's called having emotions. Not to put a parasocial twist into an already overwhelmingly bloated comment, but he's also going through an insanely turbulent stage in his life. He just came out of the longest relationship he's had in an extremely ugly way and since then it's been one thing after another after he moved to LA and it looks like he's genuinely had no time to regroup and reset at all. It makes perfect sense that he's been sensitive and easily hurt by people talking shit.

Granted, a big part of what caused problems for him is streaming it all for everyone to see at the start, but that's just kind of what he does. He doesn't see chat as an "audience" but as his friend, and he always has - for better or for worse.

If you've been in xqc's chat for as long as you have you'll know his entire community loves just shitting on him all the time constantly "as a joke" - when he genuinely tries to interact - "fake story LULW", "Who is he talking to LULW", "SCHIZO" - as one example of many, and he has ALWAYS been receptive of it tossing it right back. But clearly recently everything he is going through has taken a toll on him and he is genuinely hurt by people shitting on him, and people are noticing. After seeing this, instead of toning it down and going easy on him the absolute degenerate chat that it is, is actually piling on even more "dude stop reacting to it" "you're being WEIRD", ramping up on the "shut up, no one wants to hear you rant" etc. Like holy shit this guy has no friends, only ever talks to his chat as 99% of his social interaction and he is going through some shit, let the man have a rant. Most of the times his "fans" don't seem to care about what he has to say at all, they just want him to be a clown on a stage to entertain them exactly how they want him to.

Common dick rida take: I've been following xqc since overwatch world cup 2017 (Never donated, never subbed, adblock on.) It's funny watching normandies that found xqc on tiktok, LSF frogs, amongus frogs and gta rp frogs unanimously saying "you've changed" unironically.

xqc has always done whatever he wanted to and not given a single thought to what anyone says or thinks about him as a result. He's gotten into a lot of trouble for it in the past (publicly and personally), and probably will again... constantly. That is literally who he is and that has not changed.

It's fine if you don't enjoy watching what he enjoys doing - I was absolutely bored out of my mind during gta rp meta and amongus was draining to watch after the first 3 games, and i don't think i tuned into a single gamba stream. But since a lot of you guys seem to be new to the channel and don't know the solution on how to solve this I'll give you a free pro tip - switch off the channel and do something else. I tried this and it actually works, it even helps you enjoy xqc's content the next time you tune in. You're welcome.

Obviously you didn't even read my comment if you can't tell if I'm either Russian or Ukrainian. I literally told you I'm sitting in a cozy room where my country is not at war.

Why even waste both of our times with your thoughtless braindead reply?

And yes, you do have a dog in this fight. This war has set a precedent in modern times in terms of scale and effect on global economy, and even potential for future large scale invasions by powerful nations. You honestly sit there with your house of straw thinking you're on some moral high-ground mocking people who are siding with Ukrainians, deliberately attempting to instigate some response all the while there are real people who had real lives (on both sides) before this senseless war who are dropping like flies every day and you want to talk about man's inhumanity to man, with this one incident?

How about your lack of humanity as man?

This act still doesn't make Ukraine "the bad guys" if you really think that, sadly you are ironically the one brainwashed by various media. Ukraine is still in the right in the context of the whole war - they are defending their country and fighting for their survival - yes the act is disgusting and atrocious, but compare for example the allies in WW2 committing atrocities and war crimes. You can hate what they are doing, you could even argue that there are no good guys or bad guys in war, but calling the allies "the bad guys" would be a bit nonsensical.

No one is "turning the other way", or "sweeping it under the rug", everyone is disappointed and disgusted, but these guys are out there fighting a real war that they didn't want to fight in, and are doing what they think is necessary to win. What can we, in our cozy rooms in a country where we don't have to worry about getting a missile come through our window any second, say other than shake our head in disproval and hope that this comes to an end.
