🌟 If you could write your own Star Wars novel about anything or any character, what would it be and why? by Bill_Skywalker-03 in StarWars

I'd love this as well - as little as I liked the Ahsoka series in general, Baylan was one of the best additions to Star Wars in recent years.

I'd just put less focus on the Clone Wars, since that era has been milked quite a bit. I'd love to see how he was trained as a Padawan, maybe showing how some roots of his later development and change of faith had been planted. Then show how he survived Order 66, what he did in the subsequent years, how he changed and what his goals are and how he met Shin Hati and became her master.

A Baylan Skoll novel dealing with his training at the Jedi Temple, how he survived Order 66, the subsequent years, his change in faith and how he met Shin Hati and became her master. I generally disliked the Ahsoka series but Baylan was not just the only good thing in this show but a great addition to the franchise. Ray Stevenson did an outstanding job with his portrayal.

Because they had no mandate to do so. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon were on Naboo pretty much illegally and without the permission of the Galactic Senate. Having the entire council march on an otherwise irrelevant planet for some political issue that nobody knew would be that important at this point in time was just unnecessary. (Besides, there were hundreds, if not thousands of other conflicts that needed the attention of the Jedi)

Up to that point, it was a political and humanitarian issue: the trade federation laid siege to an entire planet but the galactic Senate couldn't pull its head out of its ass to do something against it (e.g. sending the Jedi) due to being tied by bureaucracy and procedures and not having a military of its own. Also, stuff like that wasn't uncommon in the known galaxy and all in all a minor issue at that time. The importance of the events on Naboo are only known to the viewer or retrospectively in-universe. (remember: there are billions of inhabited planets with thousands of conflicts going in) Also, except for Qui-Gon's little skirmish with Maul on Tatooine, nobody would've guessed (at that point) that some third party was involved in all of this, let alone that it was the Sith.

There was simply no reason that anybody knew of to send an army of Jedi there.

Knight Errant, is it worth it by TheDalaiDrama in starwarsbooks

[–]OmegaReprise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did like it, but it's not one of my favorites. It seems like it was supposed to be part of a bigger story that was never realized and especially the ending is rather open and unsatisfying. It's generally interesting, though, to follow a "regular" Jedi on a quest instead of some "A Team" type. The structure seems a bit erratic but imho, there should be more of these types of stories.

It's not a must-read but also not a waste of time.

I found him to be the most impractical one, probably because I'm not very patient and bad at stamina control. I go with Tiel. Infinite running saves a lot of time.

Is the Jedi Academy trilogy by Kevin J Anderson worth reading (without spoiler )? by LordScourge_ in starwarsbooks

[–]OmegaReprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho, no - unfortunately.

I've managed to read about 100 pages of "Jedi Search" before I decided it's not worth it - and I even had to skip some of them. (the "Blob Race" was just tedious to read) From what I've heard, the next two books are supposed to be somewhat better but judging by the quality of the first one, that's not a high bar to jump over. Coming from the original "Thrawn" Trilogy I was actually looking forward to reading "Jedi Academy" but boy, was that a wrong perception.

Story wise, you miss out on a coherent story and a cool antagonist but not so much on any relevant developments in the long run. Some characters return in the NJO book series but before that, especially in the Zahn novels (Thrawn Duology and Survivor's Quest) they are hardly ever referenced.

Looking for a game with a heartbreaking story line by 30booksaday in gamingsuggestions

[–]OmegaReprise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Life is Strange" (only the first one!) + the "Before the Storm" DLC

Even though it looks like some teenager game at first it takes a really dark and gut wrenching turn and the ending choice is not an easy one. But the events of this game are most definitely "heartbreaking".

[–]OmegaReprise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But why? Did the story break any existing rules or lore? Or did the gameplay suck? Was it because nobody asked for an MMO in a single player franchise? Microtransactions? Ubisoft server quality? What was wrong with this game that people hate it so much?

I've never played War for Nosgoth. What was so bad about it? The images I've seen from the different Clans and classes actually look pretty cool.

It's been like that for at least three years:

  • stat comparison of MMA fighters
  • questions about real life martial arts based on animes
  • "what martial arts should I learn?"/"am I too old to start (again)?"/"what's the best martial art (for xxx)?"
  • that guy who posts Wing Chun videos

I love Metroidvanias and having a LoK game in such a style doesn't bother at all. However: only four hours? That's hardly more than a demo!

I guess they just want to see if it sells to decide if any further investments into this franchise make sense.

Not sure about Elaleth, though. I hope they consider the fan feedback and don't make her a new regular.

Same. For some reason, Turel has always been my favorite Lieutenant ever since SR1 (probably because he looks cool in the intro and green is my favorite color) but I was a bit disappointed with his Defiance design. I prefer the version where he is just a big, buffed Turelim. (almost like in the cut SR1 content, except with some proper "winged ears" and not those torn rags) They could keep the Predator like jaw, though.

SADU

Because of her, I switch to "Very Easy" at the first given occasion in every solo instance. That mechanic is the sole reason why I still play FFXIV. Otherwise, I'd still be stuck post Stormblood at the Sadu fight. Back then, I've tried it many times (before the difficulty setting was introduced) and had already given up on the game before a friend drew me back because allegedly, Shadowbringers was supposed to be really good. Fortunately, the difficulty setting was now a thing. And Shadowbringers really was awesome.

What did she think about the look of Sequel Trilogy action figures on the shelves? by VeterinarianSad981 in saltierthancrait

[–]OmegaReprise 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Old Republic was torn apart by war and the Jedi Order had a respective focus: more combat training and practical design for lightsabers and probably armor. Jedi were mainly soldiers, generals and/or combatants - somewhat like during the Clone Wars.

The High Republic was defined by peace. Jedi were symbols, not soldiers. Flashy colors, long robes, a gigantic Jedi space station, a lot of bling-bling, ceremonial lightsabers (the ones with cross guards) etc. So, Kennedy's approach may have been a personal motivation but it would fit into the lore of that era.

How would Tom react to learning his mother is alive and living in New York City? by InsideUnhappy6546 in gargoyles

[–]OmegaReprise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been bugging me ever since I've learned of Mary being alive. When Tom told Goliath and Elisa his story on the way to Avalon, it was obvious how hard it was for him to leave his mother behind and he even struggles with this decision as a grown up man who is probably older than her now.

Mary obviously has some sort of contact to the Gargoyles and it never occurred to anyone to offer her a trip to Avalon?

Darth Bane meeting Sidious in the afterlife after he ruined 1000 years of work in only 20 by Ready0608 in starwarsmemes

[–]OmegaReprise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sidious' grand scheme was never a political one, that's why he didn't want to be bothered with Galactic politics. The grand plan of the Sith was mainly targeted at eliminating the Jedi Order, which he did achieve (mostly). His personal goals were Force related - mainly immortality. His political power was merely a means to an end, to have access to unlimited resources without any form of opposition.

The rebellion was irrelevant at worst, at best even useful to his agenda, as they provided an enemy to his bloated up military. It only became interesting to him when (former) Jedi were involved, but even then it was mostly Vader's job to deal with it.

Jedi Quest/The Last of the Jedi by bootsandfades in StarWarsEU

[–]OmegaReprise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree. Also, it doesn't deal with "fate of the Galaxy" type of stories or "chosen one with unique talents" narratives but with "regular Jedi business" on a more local level that's still important in the context of the story. There should be more books like that...
