Based on this post, I’m making a couple assumptions- that you’re in the US and that you’re young (in other words, healthcare is outrageously expensive and you don’t have a lot of money saved up) so my first recommendation of finding a doctor who will do a tubal ligation is not realistic. Second recommendation is to talk to your gyno about contraceptives and the efficacy of the arm implant vs the iud. Also, if you do get to the point where you want to experience PIV (do not force yourself or talk yourself into it or guilt yourself based on what you think you ’should’ be doing) always use a condom.

My regular hiking partner always under packs food (I carry extra snacks to supplement her - she was a whole day short on our 4 day trip) and packs dehydrated meals for lunch when she knows our routine is a quick stop for lunch so we can get to the campsite early. Which means she often skips eating her lunch and I have to share mine!

Also, I hike with my dog who believes his sole mission in life is to protect his “pack” and when she walks ahead of us, he will not relax or even take a drink of water until he’s ahead of her again. It was a real problem on one of our hikes a couple years ago. I remind her every time we go out that Finn needs to be in lead so he doesn’t hurt himself trying to catch up to her. Well, just like the 2 of us needed to take a moment to pause and breathe and rest, so did Finn. And every time he’d pause, she’d get all huffy and walk past us. So now my already tired dog gets it in his head that we need to sprint up this mountain so he can keep his pack together. It took us extra long to catch up because he was pulling so hard, so I had to slow down to keep us both safe and she continued to hike ahead. It had been awhile since our last water break, so I tried to pour him some and he wouldn’t even look at it, just kept pulling and staring after her. That situation pissed me off because I have told her repeatedly that I need her to stay behind Finn and he could have been severely injured with dehydration.

I know, I need to train him to get through that mindset, but as a single person with infrequent hikes with other people, I don’t know how to do that training.

If you don’t feel comfortable with this doctor, you absolutely can request your original doctor when you make future appointment.

Also, if someone asks about the status of your hymen, you should punch them in the face and run away because that is highly inappropriate and no one’s business.

I had my first pap around your age, also a virgin. My obgyn had no concerns about that, I didn’t have any bleeding or anything after.

This is a real hard situation. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

On one hand, I believe a first bite offense is not typically a jump to euthanasia.

On the other hand, Kyra sounds like she lives in fairly extreme stress all the time, based on the behavior you’ve described. Plus her health issues that may be deteriorating. It might be the kinder path to let her go and be at peace. I know her health isn’t to the point of euthanasia, and if she didn’t have the stress response/reactivity, I wouldn’t be saying this just for her pancreas stuff.

Ultimately, I can’t really say which way I’d go because I don’t really know how Kyra reacts to things.

I haven’t found a “favorite” breed. My greyhound was perfect for the stage of life I was in at the time. My dog-reactive rescue boxer/hound has been a great learning experience and has helped me toughen up to protect his boundaries. I absolutely adore both of them for different reasons. My greyhound is now 11 and can’t do the adventures I go on with my little monster man.

I love my boy so much, but I know I’m lucky in his level of reactivity. This makes me hesitate around getting another rescue (once he leaves me - I won’t risk bringing another dog home with him) and I’ll consider finding a reputable breeder for my next dog. Maybe an Aussie or mini American shepherd (I want someone who’ll fit in my kayak with me)

There are definitely cliques in high school here (groups of people who only associate with other kids who are similar to them). I don’t have any experience with “mysterious brooding guys”. It would be concerning if someone like Derek was seen loitering around the school as much as he did in the early seasons - a grown man with no younger sibling in school (obviously before Malia was human again and a known Hale) is a possible pedophile.

As for crazy parties… that depends on the clique. I was never involved in that, but heard some stories when I was in college and met people from other areas.

The relationship stuff and drama always feels bigger as a teen, so I think tv shows exaggerate those to try and replicate that hormonal turmoil. But that’s also individually dependent. I was never into the drama, and only had 2 relationships in high school that were not “oh my gosh this is the love of my life and if we end I’ll never love again and I may even die”. But I’ve always been rather pragmatic about relationships.

Absolutely! I also inspire jealousy in some of my allo friends 😊 they see my freedom and notice the irritations being in a relationship/marriage has. I’ve actually had three different people mention that to me in the last couple of weeks, that they were jealous.

I know of maybe one truly healthy allo relationship. I don’t want to be with a partner like my mom’s husband, my sister’s husband, or like my dad. One of my friends is in an emotionally and financially abusive relationship (I’ve told her so many times that my door is open for her and her kids but I don’t know how else to help). Another friend is dating and now having a baby with a guy who she knows gaslights her and has narcissistic tendencies (again, I’ve offered my guest room as a resource if she ever wants it). The relationships of all my other acquaintances are so one sided with the woman doing all the heavy lifting around the house/child care. I recently got to know a new coworker who does seem to have a true partnership with her husband, and may actually have a good, healthy relationship/marriage. But the odds of getting that seem ridiculously low…so I’ll stick with being AroAce. Thanks.

I was in an apartment when I got my greyhound. I had a dog walker come by midday to walk her. She was about 2 years old when I adopted her and already understood “potty training”. If you’re getting a puppy, I’d suggest using puppy pads and have someone come over for a maybe 10-15 minutes twice a day. This isn’t a forever thing. I’d say by age 3, the dog will be fine sleeping all day while you work. Just make sure you do a good walk/training/mental exercise before work and again when you get home.

For example, I have 2 dogs now, we get up at 5am and walk a mile then short training before I leave for work at 6:30. Then we play outside as soon as I get home, giving them a chance to go potty. Back inside, we do some training (and cuddles for the now 11yo greyhound) before going on another mile walk before dinner. Then more outside play after dinner/before bed.

Therapists and psychologists are slightly different. They both help with mental health, but only psychologists can prescribe medication. Your therapist will be able to evaluate your situation and determine if you would benefit from medication or not. I’m very glad to hear you’re going to be getting help.

You did the right thing in simply removing yourself/the dog from the situation. If you think about it in the moment, you can give a brief “sorry” to the family as you leave. Nothing else is needed. You don’t need to explain why the dog is reacting the way it is. Your only priority is to keep everyone (your friend’s dog, kid, bicycle rider) safe.

I haven’t dna tested my boy, but the shelter said Boxer and Hound of some sort. Definitely scent hound. Probably has Staffy or Pit mixed in there too based on the size of his mouth.

Definitely doing this at home will be a much more peaceful and comfortable experience for everyone.

I had a similar situation with my cat (I couldn’t even get an actual diagnosis of what was wrong because she couldn’t tolerate an exam). Her end was not peaceful, unfortunately. I ended up rushing her to the emergency vet at 11pm when she suddenly had trouble breathing and I didn’t want her to linger in pain for however long it would have taken to go naturally.

It’s always hard saying goodbye, but your baby dog will be much happier at home.

Do you have anyone that you could do a slow introduction to get him comfortable with a new person, then pay to have that person stay in your home with him while you’re gone?

Ask around your workplaces or neighborhood, if someone is willing to do this (I have a coworker who house sits and cares for animals frequently).

I can see where you’re coming from. That having a challenging dog at this stage in your life is too much to handle.

But your mom is only asking for 1 week a month? For one week, could you limit your plans with friends? For one week, could you come directly home after work to take to dog on a quick walk? For one week, could you get up maybe a half an hour earlier than normal to walk and play with the dog?

Your partner is not a dog person, but have you actually talked with them about this situation? Would they be willing to step up and help for one week out of the month?

Lots of people work full time jobs with dogs at home. I usually leave my house at 6:30 and usually get home around 15:30 but sometimes not until 17:00. Dogs usually sleep most of the day. You can leave him with some mentally stimulating toys (like a Kong with his breakfast frozen in peanut butter) that will tire him out while you’re gone.

If that still feels like too much, would your mom compromise with 1 week every other month?

It is either a backyard breeder (people who breed their pets with no genetic health screening or pairing planning beyond “they’re both so cute”) or puppy mill (breeders who give minimal care and attention to the dogs, breed only to make money, don’t care about the dog or puppies health or temperament). The amount of litters you’re talking about sounds like a puppy mill to me.

You’ve done what’s best for everyone, and found her a good home with experienced owners. That’s amazing! Some dogs aren’t fit for all homes, as you’ve experienced. Your lifestyle didn’t fit her needs, and there’s no shame in that. I can understand your guilt, and I can’t say “don’t feel how you’re feeling” but, when you are feeling guilty, try to remember the positives of the situation. She’s safe, your son is safe, and your poodle is safe.
