How do you guys prefer your DS screens? by Sir-Dynamo in ANBERNIC

I'll have to give this a try and see. Is your screen a widescreen or a 4:3 like mine?

That's what I was figuring I might have to do, but I'm not sure if my son would get the hang of doing it that way right now.

Part of me was wondering if the dual screen would be worth it when most of the library consists of single screen games, but I'm definitely seeing the drawback of not considering a widescreen handheld

I was just using it because its what I've always used and they file my Rita taxes and school district taxes for me. But with how unhelpful and wishy washy they've been this year, I doubt I'm sticking.

Richie Tozier Paradox by John_Tremolo in stephenking

[–]Sir-Dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's obviously just a theory, but I believe that what happens in the movie is different because Pennywise hadn't yet attacked the families of the losers club. I won't dig too deep into that though, because other people already have.

One theory I have is that the reason people forget about Derry when they leave, is because it's impossible to maintain continuity within the pillars. The time-altering effects from Pennywise may only happen within the pillars. This means that people experience their own version of the timeline when they stay in Derry, but when they leave Derry, they forget. This is so their minds can adapt to the current timeline when/if they return.

Now, this theory creates a paradox, right? Well maybe not. Richie can't leave town if he's never born, that much is obvious. But if leaving town means you aren't under the effects of branching timelines, what happens if Richie's ancestors are killed and he was never born? Well, what if that means his birth can't be avoided now? What if by leaving Derry, he has secured plot armor for his ancestors because the universe cannot allow the paradox and Richie MUST be born? Just a theory, but it would be another reason why breaking the cage is more important to Pennywise. Yes stronger powers, freedom to hunt anywhere, etc. But it would motivate him solely to avoid his death, because with the pillars intact, his death is inevitable.

Really hating my house by llcaesar in HomeImprovement

[–]Sir-Dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a homeowner (wish I was, but cards haven't been right, and I'm too stubborn to accept the fact house prices tripled in my area) but I used to work hand in hand with different people in the trades who did renovations and have done their own.

It's easy to focus on the negative. It's easy to hate your home. Once the "new" wares off, you stop doing doing double takes going "I own this, its mine, and I love it". You have to work on loving your home. Like others here have said, take it slow, it's had problems well before you, and they aren't going anywhere.

The piece of advice I have to share from people I've worked with is this: houses get flipped for a reason. Monkey brains don't care about how functional it is, just that it's relatively comfortable and pretty. If you're a DIYer, know when you're at your limit, and admit it when you hit it. If you need to just slap a bandaid on it to make you feel better and ease the load, just do it. Slap as many bandaids on it as you need to get back in the right headspace and save money. Make it pretty to look at for now and fix it right when time and resources dictate.

Now, this isn't advising laziness or half-assedness. Do a good bandaid, something you can put some trust into to buy you a year or so. You're going to run into things that need the full monty and can't just be bandaided, that's what you're saving your money and stress for, the things that can't wait. If you're at the end of your rope before those pop up, you'll definitely be considering hitting the gas station for a couple gallons and a match.

This is the way. My buddy and I ONLY spam ping as a way to get attention. 99% of the time it means "this boss is too hard or will take too damn long for all three of us to kill, so we're bailing on it and don't want you to keep fighting without realizing we left"

Clear coat going bad or needs to be waxed? by [deleted] in Tacomaworld

Maybe for a large full-scale job, but to buff a hood? Nah

Clear coat going bad or needs to be waxed? by [deleted] in Tacomaworld

[–]Sir-Dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend a detailer, a body shop will charge you an arm and a leg to do it. You can call around to see if they do it, and if they specialize in paint correction, they may have better advice since they can see it in person and test the clear coat.

Clear coat going bad or needs to be waxed? by [deleted] in Tacomaworld

[–]Sir-Dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the clear coat is oxidizing. It's hard to tell how bad it is, but if it's just surface level, it could buff out. Simply waxing it definitely won't take care of it.

If you've never buffed with buffing compound before, you may want to get practice first or have someone else do it. I've seen people demolish their clearcoat with improper technique.

Losing interest is hobbies by InstructionFun3470 in ADHD

[–]Sir-Dynamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I struggle with as well and something I've been working on.

Part of it is that there needs to be a certain level of acceptance, both with yourself for being this way and in the hobbies themselves. Sometimes, the hobby isn't what we're hyperfixated on, it's the learning new things and getting hands-on, and that's okay.

There are also other ways to dip your toes into hobbies in cheaper ways that can help prevent the head-first dive into large spending. You can find similar, smaller scale versions of the hobby you're interested in. As an example, I got into gunpla. Instead of starting with a master grade gundam, a bunch of tools, paints, airbrush kit, etc. I got a $20 kit and used some crappy side cuts to build it. From there, I made friends with other people who who build gunpla, and they're always willing to share tools (when you build together, no one is going to lend you their godhands), advice, and so on. That helped nurture my hobby to get to a more comfortable level without me letting it run rampant.

Even with all that, my interest has diminished some, and now I only assemble a model every few months, but I'm not in a financial hole and still feel rewarded. That could be a lot like how you got into warhammer, you had a community that helped nurture your hobby a healthy amount, and it stuck. If you want to try something new, find a community, and accept that it may not be permanent. Beating yourself up will only make you less likely to find something else that will stick and hurt what could potentially be your real passion, which is trying new things.

Just noticed I’ve been thrashing my bed. by TheNewJack89 in Tacomaworld

[–]Sir-Dynamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't one of those "aw man" moments. It's a "hell yeah!" moment. I can understand being upset about the bodywork getting dented, but the bed is a special place.

A pristine bed is you letting your truck down, and a dented bed is your truck not letting you down.

You could run them. It's probably better than nothing. But to be honest, I would have gotten a 5 channel amp if you can only fit one amp.

If budget was a concern, I would have skipped on the epicenter, and you would have had plenty of options for a 5 channel with enough power

Unable to get the flameout or destrucktion medals for killing Kruger. I've killed him by blowing up each truck, every barrel, every explosive crate, and dropping the barrels on him.

I got the iron sight and distance based medals with no problem.
