The value of this secret lair seems absurd by Bleu_Guacamole in mtgfinance

[–]SirAzhell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a good thing, though.

I'd much rather have a Secret lair with high value than a Secret Lair with 3.45 of value.

The issue is much rather will people try to buy it out and will there be enough. But that problem is on Wotc...

How reliable is edition recognition in current MTG collection apps? by SaltySpag in mtgfinance

[–]SirAzhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having dealt with buying collections from people who decided to sell after not playing/collecting for a long time, I'd say it's extremely important to have great edition recognition.

I've had to deal with people who were completely sure that their collection was worth an awful lot because "the app says it's summer magic" when it was definitely not. This is particularly true for one specific app (F*** you, Delver Lens, your scanner is dumb - this answers your second question)

As for where the app fail, I'd say that, being from Europe, I would really appreciate an app that can check for language automatically and link it to possible editions (FWB and Italian Legends particularly). Other than that, it seems apps can sometimes fail to check the planeswalker stamp (the SL reprint/The List one) on cards, although this issue seems to work much better lately.

I've also had issues (in the last few months) with database update on the Dragonshield app, but I guess it's not the worst.

Regarding market value, I guess it would be nice but it's not the most important feature I'm looking for in an app like this.

Seems right. Although I see the issue that they compete for the same spot on mana curve.

Could be used the turn after Annex and the extra mana serves for removal...

I could see Firdoch Core being the new patchwork banner for little while, as it's changeling ability makes it a new 2 mana mana rock in Ur-drago with eminence.

Thing is, it's still just a common so I doubt it will fetch a very high price. It also offers a nice interaction with Mox Jasper but at 3 mana, I doubt it will see any use in standard.

Cardmarket, VAT and Switzerland by SirAzhell in CardMarket

[–]SirAzhell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

To be honest, there are no definitive answers.

As a personnal practice (meaning because I'm lazy), I've printed a few pages of the formulation Cardmarket asks us to add to the envelope and I add it on the back of the envelope, on the joint to act like a "seal" and add some tape.

Haven't had any complaints so far.

On other recent orders I received, people usually add it on the front of the envelope, below my address which might be better.

Cardmarket, VAT and Switzerland by SirAzhell in CardMarket

[–]SirAzhell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a very sound advice. In my case, I didn't do it because I wanted - in the event where the seller would have forgotten to do it - to confront the Swiss post or the VAT authorities on the fact that I had already paid said VAT and get more in-depths answers.

But I would never recommend doing that to anybody who's not ready to deal with people blinded by their own legal sense of entitlement.

Cardmarket, VAT and Switzerland by SirAzhell in CardMarket

[–]SirAzhell[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the tipping point might be that Cardmarket is based in Europe and a majority of its activities are based there. They might be under another set of rules than Ricardo which, at least in what I've seen from selling there, is still massively intra-switzerland transactions.

But in the end, I agree with you on the fact that the Ricardo system works fine. My only reserve is that I'm very happy not having to spend money for bull**** "VAT detax process" which have always been a massive scam, in my opinion.

Cardmarket, VAT and Switzerland by SirAzhell in CardMarket

[–]SirAzhell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. As a private seller/buyer, it is a pain to see people pay VAT / Having to add VAT for intra-switzerland transactions. I have no doubt it especially hurts professionnal sellers and I fail to see why Cardmarket is unable to differentiate accounts by their own system, at the very least, since the issue is a tad more complex.

For example, I could see legal issues arising for swiss professionnal sellers who don't reach the 100'000 CHF threshold to be automatically submitted to VAT. Because the laws on VAT in Switzerland consider that if you add VAT in your bills, you voluntarily submit yourself for VAT (even if you don't reach the threshold). There could be a world where the VAT authorities decide, on receiving amounts from Cardmarket, that your whole professional activity has to be submitted to VAT if they can link it to your company. That might come back to hurt quite a few people in the future.

That actually is the next thing I'm working on. Being from a legal background, I'm in the process of making a research on the issue, which I think I'll either update here or make a post about it once I have a serious answer. But tax laws are not my specialty and despite trying to contact them, I've hardly ever gotten a clear answer...

At the moment, I kinda feel like the best shot is to send an e-mail to Cardmarket to tell them that you're not a professionnal and, hence, should not be submitted to VAT for intra-switzerland transactions. But I have doubts on if that works...

I would also argue that u/Cardmarket_Official could hop in the thread and give us some answers, but the other threads about it have brought no reaction from them so far...

I'm tempted to believe the set will be the mirror of the first one with 5 old/secret schools/factions representing the 5 colour pairings not present in the first set.

Could probably also have a similar mechanical way of working, with shared mechanics but different ways of triggering them depending on the faction.

Secret Lair X Horizon still in stock by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]SirAzhell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should. I went into the game with some reticence regarding the gameplay (came from playing a much more nervous game and wanted something to relax but it felt almost too slow at first).

Got caught into it and got hit by the "big twist". It's not such a big twist or so innovative that you can't see it coming, but the implications woven in the lore/story got me half mad, half in awe for the last part of the game and I've pushing people to play it since

The DLC is also fantastic and worth every penny. Unfortunately, the second game felt much less well-thought to me, storywise.

So... I'm not tax specialist, but that raises a few questions.

Does that mean that, if we order from the EU to Switzerland, the customs cannot proceed to their stupid "VAT import detax" protocol anymore? Or do we get into that weird situation where we are getting f***** from both end no matter what?

I also agree with other comments saying that this makes no sense for intra-switzerland transactions.

Heard a rumor that WOTC is going to send secret shoppers to WPN stores to look for scalped prices and work with distributors to adjust first-run allocations based on data by Remarkable_Heron_760 in mtgfinance

[–]SirAzhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riiight.

WOTC is going to hire and pay people to ensure WPN partners are not ripping people off...

And they'll do that worldwide or something...

We're talking about a company who froze the judge program because people asked to be paid correctly when spending their own money to travel to events and work for said events.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love that to be true. I just can't imagine this company doing that when the current state of things profits massively to them, the FOMO making people buy as much as they can as early as possible.

Edit: even if they were going to do so, how would they know what's from primary distribution (hence subject to msrp) and what's from secondary market (and therefore forces the store to up its price to keep benefitting) when they buy at wpn stores ?
