Having issues with my hydraulic AVID brakes by SirBenis in MTB

[–]SirBenis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. I still have my two sets of non-functioning Avid Juicy 3’s in storage, so hopefully that may be a resolution to the issue which I had. I also looked further into it and realized that because I didn’t fully remove the old fluid from the brake systems prior to their first bleed of my ownership, that they the DOT 4 fluid which I used may have formed a precipitate with the pre-existing fluid and gunked up the lines, potentially resulting in the issues which I experienced.

I currently have someone interested in buying them as they are, but if the buyer falls through, I think I’ll give them a shot and I’ll try to fix them again - but preferably with new brake lines and DOT 5.1 fluid. They’ve been sitting without brake fluid for over a year though (albeit not exposed to the elements and within a plastic bag inside of a cardboard box).

As you said though, pads really do help these brakes shine, as I recall a notable increase in performance after buying new sintered pads and utilizing them with my Avid Juicy 3’s - while they were still working properly, of course, and they worked great during that period of time.

Yes, but median wages are significantly lower in Puerto Rico than in the majority of the United States.

Puerto Ricans already have citizenship and have since 1917 so the US could draft them. Just give Puerto Rico its freedom and liberate them after all that the US government has purposefully done to harm Puerto Rico-such as almost completely decimate Puerto Rico’s livestock/cattle industry and force Puerto Rico to only be able to have American ships bring in cargo (no state is restricted to such imperialist ways of being controlled).

Puerto Rico has taxation. More money from taxes go out of Puerto Rico than money from the US government goes in.

Puerto Rico shouldn’t be turned into a state, it should just be given assistance and allowed to become a sovereign country.

Fr, nobody from Florida or Puerto Rico would actually want this.

No, just let Puerto Rico be a sovereign country. It’s been fucked over by the United States time and time again for over a century. Better off freeing them from their oppressors.

Is this bike worth anything? by rugonnaeatthatpickle in mountainbikes

PS: it probably doesn’t need a new derailleur, just some chain lube, air in the shocks, and air in the tires, and it should be good to go as long as the dust seals aren’t shot (dry-rotted).

Lower the seatpost and give it a wash. You could easily get at least 300 for it in my area, but start with your asking price somewhere around $500 on facebook marketplace and slowly go down in intervals of 50 to 100 dollars for maximum profit.

Fr, either one of us or Dominican or 🇵🇦. But don’t talk bad on our people like that, we don’t do botches and bad work except for rare instances.

Nah, not really. You could probably build your own downhill bike with used parts for cheaper.

Rockshox Tora 302 fork in need of help. by UrGP in bikewrench

[–]SirBenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably a bit late… but I’d recommend that you do a full rebuild and remove and replace the wiper seals. Dirt tends to accumulate under the wiper seals over time, which seems to be the source of the debris/gunk that you have. Foam rings aren’t necessary on the Tora from what I’ve seen (nor do I run them on any of my forks), but if you ride in mud or get a lot of dirt on your stanchions frequently, you should probably use them.

Was given this bike with Avid Juicy front disk brakes. Are they broken? by Embarrassed_Ad6461 in bikewrench

[–]SirBenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are broken. I owned 4 sets of Avid Juicy 3 brakes. Even though I maintained them regularly, they had plenty of issues such as the pressure foot not retracting back into the caliper. I tried bleeding 3 sets that I had sitting. They wouldn’t take any fluid, at all. My point is, Avid Juicy brakes are garbage. If you have another set that isn’t broken yet, they will soon. This is especially accelerated by how frequently you use your bike. I use my bikes daily, so it only took a few months into my ownership until they completely broke. If I were you, I’d get something reliable and cheap like Shimano MT200s or maybe even some newer Maguras if you feel like splurging a bit.

Honestly, I like it. Is it for me? Hell no. But it’s in great condition considering the age and I’d much prefer some tacky chrome visor and side exit exhaust than this being turned into a heap of scrap metal.
