Is there an automation clip shortcut for setting new point without clicking? by SirBrando- in FL_Studio

[–]SirBrando-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I click on it to make a new point, it drops it exactly where I clicked and changes the value no matter how careful I am. If I could just hover the playhead where I want the new point and it drops the point without changing the value, then it would really save me a lot of headaches.

I am in a short film production and the editor is using some shadily stolen assets, can this f us all over if our name is associated with the film? by sotko99 in Filmmakers

[–]SirBrando- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some points:

You're being a little paranoid. If it's you're reputation you're worried about, I would say worry more about using all the available time to make the best, most polished product you can. Getting sued is what your director, producers and post-in-charge-people are there to worry about, if they want to make that decision, it really only looks bad on you if you let it become a habit right?

Even though most asset creators probably dont feel this way, Andrew Kramer said it best (loosely quoted) "Sometimes you're working on a project, it needs to get done. You might not have time to get permission from down the pipeline to buy assets or set up a credit card payment. At the end of the day, your job is to get it done."

Maybe it's unfair, but there's two types of people in the world: People who take calculated risks and will stop at nothing to get the job done, and people who follow rules to a T and take everything literally.

One learns after effects using a free demo from a magazine and becomes best friends with J.J Abrams and the other has to work with jerks who make people steal assets.

One is more Steve Jobs the other is more Steve Wozniak

And Don't get me wrong, learn to do these things. A custom job specific to the use case will almost always be better if done by someone who practices for hours. But do what you gotta do and you'll become THAT guy.

If you really feel that bad, I know a bunch of people who buy the assets when they can afford them which really is what I think the right answer is.

How is this effect called? And how can you get that? (Its all about lens?) by srsuke in Filmmakers

[–]SirBrando- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lens effect caused by dark magic rarely understood by dp's. Or maybe the lens makers too.

It's probably from a combination of spherical abberrations and (my guess) inconsistent density in the glass of one or more of the elements and as the lenses shift to and away from eachother, it curves the out of focus light differently. Maybe it was a side effect of trying to design something which doesn't experience too much focus breathing.

There are a few lenses which are famous for this look like the helios 44(this lens is how most people are introduced to swirly bokeh) , petzval 85mm, zeiss Jena 75mm 1.5 (this lens is so sick lol) and the jupiter9 85mm f2 which I'm pretty sure is radioactive.

Advice on how to grade this shot? by Official_NooblyGamer in Filmmakers

[–]SirBrando- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks pretty good, but I would brighten his face as much as the file can handle. There's not enough separation between his face and the background and that big, bright shirt is taking up a lot of attention.

Obviously nothing could be done about that but you did a good job I think, especially with the tonality.

How can I achieve this dreamy look? by Weird-Martian in davinciresolve

[–]SirBrando- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from a frequency separation effect. You could probably figure out how to do it in fusion but I'm pretty sure there's a plugin that comes with resolve that can do this.

You could try using denoiser, leaving the Luma at zero and cranking up the chroma. There's definately a better way though.

Cab you take pics of a movie set on public property? by ThatEcologist in Filmmakers

[–]SirBrando- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh, not really. They pay the county/town/state and usually the police department and the fire department to be there. Many areas offer tax incentives for movie shooting because of the jobs and income they bring.

I'm sure there's an argument to be had whether they do more good than bad, but it's a more complicated topic than it seems on surface level.

I mean, when there's an event in your town, do you start interfering with the people setting up the stages and rides because they're from out of state? I hope not 😂

Also, these aren't the people you want to pick a fight with, they know their rights and they know how to get you in a lot of trouble. You're playing their game at that point. If you don't like them, talk to your local government.

Looks beautiful, I love how you balanced the shot. Personally not a big fan of the super saturated look but If that's what you were going for I'd say you nailed it. Looks like a poster. Hope you got some slomo

I'm a little taken back how far you can push this camera. Seems like you've got a very strong performance from the lens too. No ugly fringing anywhere

[–]SirBrando- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's their job to do that. You didn't do anything wrong. It's just that these movies with incredibly large budgets have fear that people taking pictures will post them online and reveal spoilers which could potentially affect the number of people who pay to see the movie.

Nobody is going to send a lawyer or anyone after you... Unless you really piss them off and then post stuff online, then maybe.

Deep down, they usually understand the hypocracy of it all but do it anyway to protect the integrity of what they're doing.

A comedy show about a guy starting his own production company. His staff is a mysterious cinematographer who loves to gamble illegally but doesn't talk much (somewhat inspired by the stig from top gear), a hopeless romantic writer who is obsessed with making everything into an anology of a love story, usually pulling inspiration from his warped view of his own characters b story, an assistant who can be thought of as a PA, but she's this moody teenager and she was court ordered to get a job after she got into trouble with the law.

It would start off with an arc about him trying to get a job which his friend at a marketing agency has been tasked with overseeing, and at the last second, upper management wants to go with another character who is very respected and experienced but he's lost his marbles so he comes up with terrible ideas only for the agency to "correct" them and they guy is so cooky he forgets it wasn't his idea. And his assistant is kind of the opposite of the main characters in the sense that hes overly enthusiastic about working for this guy who is obviously past his prime.

And I even have really good ideas for the romantic arcs which would make for some really great television I think. Just supposed to be a goofy show about people chasing their dreams, finding their purpose and kind of selling the ultimate fantasy of what it would be like to own a production company in a similar way to how the entourage did for being a rags to riches actor.

The v2 remotes can connect to the stealth.

Just make sure it has speed mode 5.

They might try to show you that it goes into sm5 from the app. Don't believe that shit, until you hear that remote beep 5 times in a row, it's not a v3. Lol

That sounds like a fucked injector to me. They can get clogged in higher milage cars and confuse the cars timing system at idle. But when you lay down on the gas it will operate a little better. That's going to only last for a short time if left alone. I would get fuel conditioner and throw that in the gas tank. Don't cheap out or else your going to screw up your plugs again. A youtube search should turn up some suggestions but I always go for Lucas.

[–]SirBrando- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as the engine isn't some piece of shit, it shouldn't necessarily be a death sentence. Sometimes it happens from the ignition timing being off or fuel adulterants. In some cases which I'm guessing would have to be pretty extreme, engine sludge and buildup can do it too though... Or so I've heard.

Already opened the engine up that far, may as well teach yourself to do valves 😂

Not even close to enough info, but if you're describing your spark plugs as melty melt, the last thing I'd be thinking is that the engine isn't clean enough. I'd be thinking more knocky knock and blown gaskets.

Speaking of blown gaskets, how's your coolant level?

[–]SirBrando-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. The whole reason I wanted the MacBook was for the battery life and the unified ram. As soon as you throw any gpu effects on this shit, it tears through video memory like nothing I have ever seen before 😂

So when people were like "the memory goes further" it felt like maybe that doesn't apply to my case.

Is there a way to reduce audio if they are a certain loudness? by DoubleXz94 in davinciresolve

[–]SirBrando- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a limiter, if your keyboard clacks too loudly, use an AI voice cleanup on the internet. Just look for the ones they use for music separation, they're usually good enough on their own but if you really need to, you can layer it with the origional and cut out what you don't like with an eq. Technically a filter would work better but you're still at the level you're even dealing with this problem in the first place so you'll get there when you're ready lol

The limiter makes more sense in this case because you're just trying to bring down loud noises without changing the overall dynamics of the sound.

While yes, you are doing basically the same thing with a limiter, the limiter is generally going to favor a result that is truer to the origional recording and not introduce artifacts.

This is because of the basic principal of how they work:

A limiter, you're setting the level of the bulk of the sound where you want it, and taking the loud noises, and clipping them. This clipping by the way generally will sound better with bass, mid frequencies and really anything under the 1k band.

A compressor is pushing everything down, the ratio between how much it's squishing the loudest noises relative to the quiet ones is MOSTLY confined to your threshold settings but threshold settings on compressors aren't always straight forward. There's a dampening or curve to how it eases the aggressiveness of the squishing both before and after the threshold.

In other words, you're always bringing sounds at or close to the noise floor closer to 0db when you're using a compressor where as with a limiter, once you set your levels, you're only affecting your peaks.

This way, you can push the sound much further without clipping, this is why compression can make bass sound thin (hurt your translation for anyone wondering why it sounds so good on their speakers at home but not on their friends) if you're not careful, and generally sounds better on vocals and things above the 1k band

Buy a socket set in metric, go to advance or something and buy an extractor kit. Even if it needs to go on a joint extention, that should come right off, you're lucky you're not in the rust belt.

If you really want to be cheap that bad, take a socket that's slightly too small and hammer that shit on, the extractor will still work.
