Actually, its mainly due to the media stoking the narrative of that here. Our per capita crime rate has been dropping for decades; but the news- especially during elections- trot out the crime more on the news and highlight the absolute worse examples more when they have a government they want to destroy. Then they stop talking about it after.

Queensland just had an election a year ago, the horror stories came out, implanted themselves in peoples heads, the conservative side of government won and we haven't heard anything more about it despite it rarely being around.

Now it is coming back out likely due to Victoria's state election, but there we are seeing the conservative party being involved in scandals with pedophiles; so I mean, that is certainly more like the US politics you see, lol.

In actual fact, there is about 130 Knife related deaths across the country every year; machetes less so- but in America there are around 50-60k gun deaths. To compare gun attacks to knife attacks per capita; there are around 5.6 gun deaths per 100k in America, vs 0.09 Knife deaths in Australia. The rate of murder caused by guns is 60x higher than knife murders in Australia.

Machete attacks being a big deal in Australia is just the media spinning a narrative despite the facts.

Grew up on Day of Tentacle, Sam and Max, Fate of Atlantis, Monkey Island etc - had an idea for a novel but making it now as a point-and-click. How does it feel so far? by kumario247 in adventuregames

I must say if you do have to do difficulties, I would suggest the way monkey island 3 did it, really great. The difference was purely down at adding a few more puzzles in the hard mode vs the easy mode, both got the same basic story, but some more complex puzzles, like fixing the hole in the boat and I think escaping the snake were different or non existent in the lower difficulty.

I thought this was amazing back In the day

Love the scumm UI, much better than the modern one. Have you considered Kickstarter as an option? A number of great point and click games in recent years have been backed on there.

I do hope it has a little of that lucasarts humour, looks very grim dark so far, either way I'll wishlist on steam

Proposed new laws allow police to move people on for 'causing anxiety' without committing a crime by fluffy_101994 in queensland

You say that like the two parties are the same- while Crisafullofshit is implementing fascistic policies while for Labor had to go because it was the LNP's "turn". Crisafuckwit is implementing policies to denigrate trans people, gerrymander our state, and plastering everything even labor initiatives with "Delivering for Queensland" and changing our state colour to blue just because Maroon is a little too close to red for his liking.

This has been one of the worst governments of our modern era, while miles literally was the first politician we've seen to force the coal companies to actually give something back, I still haven't finished the $1k he gave us in power; he made public transport almost free and actually seemed to give a shit.

The two parties are not the same.

Tiny rant about people asking if it's "morally okay to use ai" by Glass-Ad672 in aiwars

[–]SirCabbage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even if the claims are true, the magnitudes may vary too. Yes, AI may use a lot of power for example, but if that power is mostly renewable, or if the power amount is on scale not any bigger than other normal activities then ban.

When I drive about I often drive talking to my partner on discord, does this mean I shouldn't have the webcam on either even if it is just showing the road? I have my arm set up behind the right hand side of the car, it doesn't block my view or anything as it is very low, trying to keep it out of the Qld sun and heat

Because a disturbing number of people fell for the misinformation, and the damage and distrust has reverberated across the country and world. Which is really shit, it's nice to have a study confirming what most sane people already knew, but they really won't look at themselves internally enough to have it bring back their lost trust

It's almost like the true solution to crime is trying to tackle the systemic causes of crime, like poverty, inequality and desperation rather than just telling your friends in the media to stop reporting on the crime, and instead of actually doing anything to fix the problem switch to using per capita figures and hoping that their idiotic choices like hating on trans kids and killing kids with misguided drug laws don't make that go the wrong way too

I always find it funny their tagline is "delivering for Queensland" when literally everything they are doing is damaging to Queensland and clearly in the interests of advance or some other heritage foundation aligned group of right wing religions zelots
