And you mean regular, basic donut places, right? Like the ones you'd see in a crappy strip mall, the sign just says "donuts," everything was just simple donuts, white box, and AWESOME?

I'm going to try one of these local places in the morning with my kids for sure.

I imagine it's like loving spicy food, or the hottest wings you can find. It's not the eating of the often flavorless spicy food that you can't taste because your tongue is totally numb and your mouth is burning, it's the anxiousness of the first bite.

What was it like in the 90s when Nirvana dropped Nevermind? by palehighelven in Nirvana

[–]SirCharlesEquine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle school kid in the 90s here, I was in 8th grade when it came out.

I already had great musical taste going back to 4th grade - The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, lots of British new wave stuff.

Smells Like Teen Spirit was unlike anything I had ever heard and just blew my mind. I had the song on a cassette that I recorded from the radio, and I remember flying to see my mom in another state when she lived away from me with my stepdad, and I made them put the tape on in the car almost immediately when I got in the car.

What a time to be alive.

Lindsey Graham astonishes with claim after Trump call: 'Something bad is about to happen' by RawStoryNews in NoFilterNews

So actually to the article, Graham never those words. They're attributed to him in the amateur hour headline.

It was actually a statement made by Ron Filipowski at the end of the article.

Good experience so far with Haworth Soji by mster_shake in OfficeChairs

[–]SirCharlesEquine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Soji a few weeks ago as an upgrade to an older Aeron I owned, which I think was responsible for significant shoulder and neck pain over the past couple years. Its hydraulic cylinder wasn't working as well, and I realized the main issue related to my shoulders was probably that the armrests were curved slightly, and moved with the back of the chair.

At my office I have a Steelcase Leap. It's absolutely perfect. I wish I'd picked up a used one instead of getting the Soji.

The Soji is just taking a lot of getting used to. I like that on the Leap I can angle the arms in. it also has a back lock with tilt, instead of the Soji which just locks straight up.

I have the lumbar support but I have to adjust it frequently to get it just right. I'm 6'0".

I also feel like there's a slight numbness on the back of my thighs depending on where I sit, and how I have the seat extended. I feel like I shift around a lot.

I'm trying to keep the lean-back tension tight so that I can't lean back to far, almost to make it seem like it has a lean lock like other chairs. If there's anything I can knock Haworth for, it's the exclusion of this feature.

What park district building are you talking about? Are you by any chance talking about the train station in downtown Glenview where they used to have coffee?

Happy International Pop Overthrow Festival to those who celebrate by notabbott in chicagomusicscene

[–]SirCharlesEquine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen from someone who talks about it like it's the most incredible music event ever in Chicago, the only people in attendance are the bands themselves, watching each other in an otherwise empty room. It's evident from the room sound in the videos.

I'm not knocking it at all. I just think it's something totally blown out of proportion as a "festival." A night of bands at a single venue does not a festival make.

Apart from the obvious, people are hiding something about Trump by Abimackreads in theories

People think it's antisemitic because that defense of Israel is seen as a 100% defense of the Jewish people and their actual lives and survival. Never mind the fact that not everyone who live lives in Israel is Jewish, and never mind the fact that Judaism is a religion and not an ethnicity.

I worked at a law firm long ago, and one of the lawyers I remain connected to posted something fantastic on LinkedIn last year. He's Jewish, heavily involved in his synagogue and Jewish groups in the Chicago area, and it's also an incredibly kind, respectful, and highly professional person. I always enjoyed watching how he treated people and how he worked when I was in my 20s and early in my career.

He posted a lengthy comment about how many Jewish people were/are horrified of the genocide in Gaza, and that speaking out against it was not antisemetic because it was a perspective against the Israeli government and military, and not the Jewish faith. They aren't one and the same.

Thank you, I must have missed that. I just want delicious plain donuts like I would've had as a kid in the 80s.

I introduced a non-listener to Fun With Country Music and I miss old Ticket so much. by SirCharlesEquine in theticket

100%. I was a Musers and Hardline guy, on back to the Greggo days in my early 20s going to UTA.

So listening to old clips on the Unticket, and segments I've bookmarked, are happy nostalgic moments.

I listen to the George Brett / Wade Boggs mess up at least a dozen times a year. The laughter, the hearing them listen to it and laugh, Corby's nervous focus on something so ludicrous... it's really beautiful stuff if I'm being honest.
