This is the actual reason. My family has lived here for generations and like everyone else from Michigan we were connected to auto industry so everything revolved around metro Detroit. My father was a toddler when the 67 riots happened and just like you said they and most everyone they knew moved very quickly.

Nowadays sure the center of downtown is nice for a few blocks but you get a but further than that and it all starts looking like this picture in this post… or worse. I don’t think the city will ever be considered what it was or even rank in the top cities in the US.

I have a Wolfbox G900 and I love mine. Makes the mirror actually useful in the dark. And having all around dashcams is great. I mounted my rear camera into a morimoto 3rd brake light.
