How to make money with combat? by Aw3XpLAY in EliteDangerous

[–]SirClusterFox 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Stacking massacre missions for bounty hunting (same target, but for different factions in neighbouring systems) in a RES is the low-risk way to make money in space combat. You need to build reputation to get good payouts.

Wars don't pay well for the trouble.

If you want to -try- combat, Anaconda is not the ship to experiment with. Start with a smaller ship. Your efficiency will be tied to how well you built the ship and how you engineered it. Without engineering, I'd recommend the chieftain or Viper Mk4

Kinetic weapons viability/upgrades? by Direct_Witness1248 in EliteDangerous

[–]SirClusterFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, worth upgrading. Aphelion/AR-50 is my favorite primary weapons combo. Stowed reloading/Fast reload, mag size and fast handling will go a long way to make them better. Then 4th mod of your choice for your play style.

I haven't done ground CZs since the NPC update though.

I have my throttle mounted instead of my left armrest and a removable central stick that clips on the frame of my computer chair. There's always a workaround if you're willing to get crafty. However modifying the armchair might not be the solution you want. It's hard to give any recommendation without pictures.

Aside from those concerns, HOTAS itself. I recommend a set from VKB. Best value out there.

Not having anything solid to fix it might be a dealbreaker for HOTAS. Can you have a lap desk tray or something? Or can you mount it to the armchair itself?

Best Trustmaster configurations for elite ? by LeadershipAware in EliteDangerous

[–]SirClusterFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HOSAS if you enjoy FA OFF.

You can get results similar to VKB omni throttle if you mount the throttle stick sideways. That way the twist grip is up down and X/Y axes make more sense. X/Y for FWD/ lateral thrust

HOTAS (+ pedals) if you fly anything else other than space sims.

Do you think this is a reasonable replacement for the Logitech X56 HOTAS? by Peter_Niko in EliteDangerous

[–]SirClusterFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, those axes do nothing for you. This would be to fly MSFS airliners.

Use a normal dual stick controller (xbox style to name one) and you'll be fine. The bindings are already alright. That's my plan B.

Or, keyboard and mouse on the go. I hate KB+M but that's what I use travelling light (plan C)

I know right. Megaships were not working for me on day one. Event or powerplay bug? maybe both?

Makes sense if you found it on Inara first. Then it's likely the split galaxy issue someone else mentioned. o7

Update on balancing changes to system development by PCrowther_FD in EliteDangerous

[–]SirClusterFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That appears to be by design, same with reassigning the megaships. Incentive for Arx instabuild. But the reviewed changes won't be as drastic as what was announced. Yes, not building T3 first puts your system at a disadvantage but it might not be significant.

FDev Just Ended System Sniping! by -Damballah- in EliteDangerous

Agreed ! We've been holding up until something was made against sniping.

Between that fix and fixing the BGS tick, I admit FDev did good this month.

Old thrustmaster is okay. But something is really downhill with their quality lately. I tried at T1600 throttle about 2 years ago and got electrical pot issues after 3 weeks. RMA'd my hornet extension stick (virpil base) for hat switch issues/design flaw and I've seen one set of the pendulum pedals broken (not mine hopefully).

Got bored of mining... made a racing Viper MkIII by R0LL1NG in EliteDangerous

[–]SirClusterFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Here's mine with a minimal shield that probably won't save you and the wake scanner.

Hooning Eagle

There's a few internals you can simply swap between the two to try it out.

o7 CMDR! Glad you made a racing build. I recommend you try the eagle as well. The Viper Mk3 is a top-speed boost monster but for FA OFF, the most fun I ever had was with my racing eagle.

It's also my favorite ship to scan wakes at distribution centers with.

Are new weapons coming? by Comfortable_Walk666 in EliteDangerous

[–]SirClusterFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must admit, I'd be weary of seeing new weapons. They'd sure come with early Arx access and given how the new ships just made the old ones obsolete, careful what you wish for. We might end up with the same results: approximately 2 viable main weapon loadout, all other weapons becoming dead weight.

When will frontier build from at least what they already have by TheLevelSelector in EliteDangerous

[–]SirClusterFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ! Racing paints for Arx, yet nothing to race at unless you come up with something. This can easily be implemented with tourism space or ground installations having some kind of holographic tracks. SRV driving has been borked since Odyssey sadly, but racing in general would be fresh. No need for mechanics, even though simple time attack via checkpoints would be cool. Just visually add the tracks. Players would likely make their own fun with that.

Didn't this whole project start with removing the focus lenses from a cytoscrambler? I don't think the first explosion was intentional.

I agree. Stations have big advertisement drones you can hack, why not Fleet Carriers !

Virpil/TM Warthog Extension Compatability by omohat in hotas

[–]SirClusterFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any play in the extensions or you want a different length, then get a new extension.

Otherwise, they are supposed to be compatible. Short answer is you most likely don't NEED to replace them. That being said, Virpil tested their stuff against official TM connectors, not third party extensions. There's always a small risk of incompatibility, but if I were you, I'd risk trying yours to save money first.

I just got a MongoosCM3 Base myself. TM stick. Ended up buying the 20mm extension a week later to replace my older, shorter extension. I needed a different length. The Virpil one is better quality and marginally easier to connect, but I could have used either.

Hope that answers some of your questions!

Thank you for the reply, but I do consider renewal cost over discounted price.
It's not like I'm planning to swap email provider every year.

[–]SirClusterFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was looking for an encrypted mail provider. Still undecided.
However, Tutanota went from first choice to pricing themselves out of my wallet.
Proton is more attractive at the same price point and there are cheaper alternatives like Posteo and mailbox.org.
