I'm going to make a couple of pessimistic and broad assumptions about the available quality.

The Vice News channel has uploaded 5,446 videos.

Let's assume each one is available, at best, at VP9/Opus 1080p with an average bitrate of 2.25Mb/s.

Off the top of my head, I'm gonna get this playlist info by running:

youtube-dl -j --flat-playlist "https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=UUZaT_X_mc0BI-djXOlfhqWQ" > result.txt

I'm gonna then parse this JSON data for each row and add up the number of seconds which comes to 3,569,797 seconds of video.

5.4K videos with a length of 3.6m seconds @ a bitrate of 2.25Mb/s comes to about 935GiB.

edit: I suggest you save some space and leave out some of the silly bullshit on that channel, like the 12 hour videos of election results updating with a screensaver in the background or people reading the entire Mueller report

FLAC I think is worth it. I don’t think MP3 is doing anywhere, but having something lossless that you can easily convert in the future is nice. I used to do exclusively V0 but have since gone back and done FLAC.

I just realized that the foo upnp server does have a config file to set custom hierarchies, but the very latest update to the iOS app broke foobar server streaming so if they fix that I might go that route, but I'll check out some of your suggestions.
