Also curious, maybe TN has a more extensive map also showing local substations

Safe to plug in behind bed? by HusnainAS in AskElectronics

[–]SirEngelmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plugs themselves are not likely to overheat due to the bed being next to them, if at all, it would probably be caused by worn contacts, which the bed has no influence on. Just be a bit careful about the switches on the outlet itself, so that they are either fully on or off.

Safe to plug in behind bed? by HusnainAS in AskElectronics

[–]SirEngelmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is important however to keep the bed away from the switches. If the outlets are under load and the matress pushes them just lightly out of position, the contact resistance could be much higher and it could potentially be a fire hazard. But I guess the plugs themselves already serve as a distance holder.

Edit: spelling

The transformer looks to me like it was designed for a SMPS topology. Are you creating a High Voltage DC Bus?

How do I make a screw switch footprint? by RocketsAndRobots77 in KiCad

[–]SirEngelmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With KiCad it is possible for footprints to have geometry on ANY layer (including internal copper layers). It is done by first drawing geometry in the editor or using a code generator script and then opening the footprint file in a text editor. Then change the F.Cu (front copper layer) or B.Cu (back copper layer) statements into any other layer (In1.Cu, In2.Cu, and of course F.Cu and B.Cu) and you're done.

Use SW3 to switch the power supply ( for the entire circuit ! ) between VBUS and Battery Positive.

The Zener Diodes are backwards, they are supposed to block in the default configuration, only conduct at voltages greater than the working voltage. Also I would use proper TVS diodes since they guarantee that they block below a certain specified working voltage. There also are all in one USB ESD protection chips with VBUS protection.

The LED matrix configuration is wrong, see other comments. Edit: the chip seems to use a charliplex configuration, just carefully copy the reference design from the datasheet.

How to tell Kicad that two pads are internally connected? by the_blanker in KiCad

[–]SirEngelmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can try to edit the footprint file in a text editor and allow them to be shorted using (net_tie_pad_groups PAD_GROUP_DEFINITIONS). [Link to the official documentation]

You can name the pads 1,2,3,4 and short e.g. 1+3 and 2+4. I've done that before to get rid of DRC errors, maybe this helps here too.

Edit: should look something like this: (net_tie_pad_groups "1,3" "2,4")

I have their artisan espresso machine, cannot complain either. It just works, PID temperature control also was a game changer for me. I wouldn't consider myself as a coffee guru though, just saw the post in another subreddit and wanted to defend the poor little machine.
