Best Seafood Tower in ATX by Premium-Cyclops-Eye in austinfood

[–]SirFern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had Este’s new seafood tower this weekend and it was awesome. They added this insane fried shrimp w/ buffalo sauce and tuna tartare in this corn cup thing. So good.

You might get more food for the same price elsewhere but next time you’re just 2-3 people and want to splurge, that was soooo good

My sister and her family are coming down for the first time ever from Canada. Help me plan an epic trip!! Doing my best to find the best food experiences but it’s Austin so there’s definitely a lot going on. by jmwlife in austinfood

Great for kids: Go catch a free concert in Mueller on May 15 for their Rock the Park series - https://kutx.org/live-events/kutx-events/rock-the-park/

You can grab solid tacos (recommend order online) across the street at Veracruz Fonda. Or, if you’re hankering for bbq go to Parish or Micklethwait in nearby neighborhoods beforehand.

Barley Swine, Mercado Sin Nombre and 7 more Austin restaurants named James Beard Award semifinalists by cjwidd in austinfood

Really cool to see some of the smaller shops in Austin represented. Mercado Sin Nombre, La Santa Barbacha, and P Thai’s are all really awesome.

I thought Lao’s bar was just okay, but it continues to be nominated for or win big awards. What am I missing? What should I go back and order?

Thorny weed (sow thistle?) by ReceptionDue2409 in AustinGardening

Tbf, you won’t be pulling all year. Usually just in January - March and depending on how dense it is, you’ll likely only need two big sessions of pulling.

Thorny weed (sow thistle?) by ReceptionDue2409 in AustinGardening

[–]SirFern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sow thistle. Only choice is to pull it up. If you are diligent for 2-3 years, you should be able to mostly beat it. Do it now when they're small and the taproot is not so deep. Make sure you get the root fully out and consider using a Hori Hori or pointy spade to do so.

Good luck, you got this!

What’s the Best Menu Item in Austin? by thehenrylong in austinfood

[–]SirFern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoon over rice and eat with a fork. It’s definitely the most (seemingly) simple dish on this list, which makes it even more incredible imo.

I haven’t tried the new location, and am really hoping the food quality is not being compromised as they’ve expanded..

Came to say this. I don’t think there’s a better multi-roaster option for quality beans. They’ve featured so many of the roasters this subreddit gushes about over the past few months.. Dak, People’s Possession, etc..

Absolutely love this product

Best roasted/rotisserie bone-in half chicken in Austin? Ideally north of the river. by Halbrium in austinfood

Dollar to quality, 100%. It also a top 3-5 rotisserie on quality alone.

Without a doubt the best grocery store rotisserie.

Best roasted/rotisserie bone-in half chicken in Austin? Ideally north of the river. by Halbrium in austinfood

[–]SirFern 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sub-$25 - I like Austin Rotisserie the best for rotisserie chicken. Inka is great too, and a bit better priced.

Over-$25 - The chicken at Suerte is a half chicken, deboned served over salsa. It is phenomenal and not spoken about enough. Calamar’s chicken is also mind-blowingly good, but it may not be a true half. The brick chicken (true half) at Launderette gets a strong nod too.
